"I’ve been a classical musician for years, but it wasn’t until I tried to play jazz standards and improvise that I realized how weak my listening skills were. For years I diligently practiced the usual apps and online courses, so you can now add me to the list of musicians who got little out of the interval method in terms of applying what I learned to real musical contexts. I really got stuck in hearing chord progressions and bass notes.
So I signed up for UYE. What grabbed me first about UYE was when I played the drone and sang a major scale against it. I immediately and for the first time experienced the “colors” of each degree of the scale in a tonal context. It was a consciousness raising experience. In a couple weeks I’ve improved my dictation skills, can find the key pretty quickly in real songs and recognize simple chord progressions. I’m feeling quite hopeful I will get to where I want to be with UYE program."

I have been with ‘use your ear’ for a year now. When I started I couldn’t recognise chord progressions at all as I had no musical background. I tried ear training before doing interval exercises but couldn’t see any improvement. Now I can hear clearly chord changes in pop music and play the melody by ear on the keyboard. I can see the results now thanks to ‘Use Your Ear’ program.

Best invested money in musical course ever!

It was an eye- ehm: ear-opener for me which opened up a whole new level of making music.

The "average" is given for my progress on account of how much (or better "how little") I actually practised.
I value the course and the material very much and - if only this was to be evaluated - I'd give You the "positive".

Close to perfect product.

I have been using this method for about 7 months now , it does help me to improve my ear, and more important is that it is fun way to learn the skill from this method that I believe this is how should be .For me Only downside is that some times it is bit of big step from lesson to lesson , I need to do lots of research to be able to follow the next lesson. Overall is pretty good , so that i give 5 star.

An assessment of the ‘Use Your Ear’ Course from a customer:

Over the years I have spent a small fortune on Ear Training. Initially I started with the intervalic method (Minor 2nd = ‘The Jaws Theme’, Tritone = ‘The Simpsons Theme’ etc). Although this was a fun exercise, it quickly became apparent that this approach would never be something that I personally could use as a launch pad for developing audiation.

I then moved on to functional harmony as a much better solution. I have purchased a number of courses from very popular YouTube content providers (insert your preferred example of a renowned music professor here), but these still rely on the intervalic approach to a certain degree.

I purchased the ‘Use Your Ear’ course a few months back, and I can say with absolute certainty, this is the most cost-effective, efficient and thoroughly well thought-out way to develop your ear. I have absolutely no natural talent for musicianship. I just enjoy pentatonic noodling while sat on the sofa. However, by following the clear instructions (and applying a little effort & patience too), I now find myself humming any combination of intervals of the major scale then playing the notes perfectly on my instrument (Note to self: as with learning a new language - mistakes do happen so be gentle with yourself, Mike 😋). Although this achievement may appear somewhat negligible, this is audiation. No other instruction has improved my capabilities at such a ferociously rapid rate. You should also consider that I have only just scratched the surface of the lessons in this course.

If you are on the fence about committing to this course, ask yourself the following:

Do I want to stop wasting my time and money on methods that will never deliver?

Yes, there are cheaper (and inferior) courses out there, but do I want to play my instrument with the same fluency as humming/whistling a ditty?

Do I want 1st class instruction and access to communication with other members who have purchased this course?

In summary, you get what you pay for in this life. If you want intelligent, science lead, instruction from a company that is completely transparent and honest in their business practises, and if your goal is an internalised command over your instrument, then just go for it. This is the best course by light years.

I appreciate this is a long message, but as I mentioned, I have spent a fortune on developing my ear to no avail. If you have suffered similar frustrations as myself in the past and are toying with the idea of making a purchase, just do it. You won’t regret it. I just wish I’d bought it years ago.
