I completed a 25 day overland safari from Zanzibar to Nairobi including trekking with Moutain Gorillas in Uganda and Christmas Day was spent trekking with Chimpanzees. African Overland Tours and specifically my agent Melissa was the person behind organizing all of it. At the beginning I was a little nervous about booking such a big trip with a company I was not familiar with. African Overland Tours did come highly recommeded by a friend so I decided to take a chance. Right from the beginning of booking right up to my last day on the tour Melissa was there for me and any questions I had. She was friendly, helpful, professional and extremely knowledgeable of everything related to Africa and traveling overland. Some times the information provided was overwhelming but she walked me through the process step by step. Thank you African Overland Tours and Melissa for helping me with this adventure of a life time.

We could not have imagined having a better trip. Our Africa Overland tour coordinator, Ingrid Van Wyk, was ever so helpful in providing prepatory information not only about our 20 day Safari trip through South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe but also for our time in Cape Town and surrounding areas, 4 days both before and after our safari trip, all of which we thoroughly enjoyed.

The accommodation and meals were excellent all along the way, yet somehow continued to get even better as we headed northward to Chobe and Victoria Falls.

The changing topography, villages, towns and cities of themselves would have made this a trip worthwhile. The animal sightings only added to our enjoyment.

Our group consisted of Australians, New Zealanders and Canadians, a most compatible combination. One participant set up a What's App site for posting photos and comments and to keep everyone up to date on activities and options.

The walks and hikes to waterfalls, to view fish canyon and to climb the sand dunes only added to our enjoying the trip - even for us as 84 and 89 year old active octogenarians.

Our Kiboko driver and guide, Collen, was amazing. His commentary throughout the journey was interesting and informative. He facilitated many wildlife sighings and explained local customs and traditions. He responded to any concerns we might have had and followed up to ensure all was well.

Our only wish is that as many people as possible should have the opportunity to partake in such an experience.

We booked our 25 day accommodated safari with African Overland Tours (AOT).
Minette was our agent and she was friendly, helpful, courteous, knowledgeable - in short, she couldn't have done more to help arrange our tour.
We flew from Australia to begin our safari in Pretoria, first stop Kruger - woohoo! Final destination, Cape Town.
We travelled with a small group initially but picked up a few more passengers in Livingstone. There was plenty of space on the bus and, although some days were necessarily quite long, travel was comfortable and our 2 man crew (guide & cook) were great company and wonderful ambassadors for AOT and Africa itself, we had a lof of laughs and learnt so much from them during our travels.
Accommodation on safari was more than adequate and varied considerably in both style & function from place to place - just remember, you're in Africa on an adventure tour, if you're a 5 star "Hilton" traveller this kind of travel may not be for you.
The food provided was basic, but plentiful, varied, & tasty. Our cook had trained as a chef and what he could rustle up with basic ingredients was fantastic. These guys work long hours in tough conditions to ensure your safari is enjoyable, so help from passengers in setting up, packing up, and washing dishes is both expected and rewarding.
The scenery, places we visited, animals we saw, & experiences we had were all wonderful. We ticked off the big five, saw a fresh lion kill, a leopard lying just 2m from the side of our jeep, watched lions stalk and pursue a group of giraffe, rode downstream in dugout canoes, climbed Namibia's dune 45, walked on foot to track rhino etc, etc. The memories and photos of our safari will be with us forever.
At the conclusion of our safari we hired a car in Capetown to drive the "Garden Route" and, whilst enroute, we were able to meet & have a drink with Minette & her colleague whilst telling them of our adventures.
If you're looking for a well run adventure safari I'd happily recommend the services of both Minette & AOT.

The customer service was wonderful .Minette answered all of my many annoying questions with patience and grace .The tour african overland tours gave us was exactly what we wanted and was truly a magical experience. They offered me so many options and then helped me narrow down. Melissa was patient and creative in her suggestions, followed up proactively, and helped me add on an extra trip at the beginning of the longer vacation. I would book with them again anytime I travel to Africa.

My friends and I had the most incredible experience — we absolutely loved the trip. Traveling through such beautiful and diverse countries was truly mesmerizing, with stunning landscapes and amazing wildlife. And of course, a huge shout-out to our guides, Norman and Mandlaa, who were absolutely outstanding.

Our first connection with African Overland Tours was with one of their Consultants, Michelle Kruger. Michelle took us through the complete tour and the lodgings which would suit us as we are in our mid 70’s.
We had an online meeting with her and couldn’t speak more highly of her professionalism. Michelle helped us with any questions we had and reassured us we would have an unforgettable adventure. When we emailed with any queries they were answered immediately.
After all our tour details were met we then set off on this amazing tour.
We met up with our guides, Victor and Tarro.
These two gentlemen were the best. Any questions, queries were answered with passion and detail. We relied on them for our safety, comfort and knowledge.
Our accommodation, food and activities were amazing.
We were shown amazing sights and the best of everything Southern Africa had to offer in the countries of South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe.
We had various safari guides and tour guides who also had a wealth of information to share with us. All of them had the professional approach to their guests. One of our Safari drivers was exceptional. Her name is Ratti. She had 4 x 4 driving skills which were more than we expected. There was nothing that was too much for her to accommodate our amazing safari adventure.
We found everybody we met or was our host in either of our accommodations or tours had a big smile and greeted us with enthusiasm.
The countries we visited were so interesting and the people very friendly.
We would recommend anyone wanting to take on a safari of Southern Africa to give African Overland Tours / Nomad Adventures a call.
You will not regret it.

We had been looking to join a group tour seeing Lesotho and South Africa's Garden Route. I goofed up and bought non-refundable airline tickets, and then discovered the tour was in the wrong language.
Michelle Kruger heard my quandary and proposed a great solution: she would construct a self drive adventure mirroring the plan of the group tour we had hoped for.
What a WOW riddled trip! We had crazy views, refreshing swims, gorgeous hikes, and many rooms that were simply stunning.
We couldn't be happier with our experience.

African Overland Tours provided me with a fantastic service resulting in a great 9 week holiday. I was kept well informed throughout, all my queries were answered swiftly, there were no surprises and I was never left wondering 'what next'. Despite them being just the booking company, I was reassured that they made every effort to ensure I was okay after hearing that I had suffered a dislocated shoulder. We travelled with African Overland Tours in October 2025 on the Namibia Dunes and Wildlife 6 day accommodated tour.

The whole trip was incredible - so diverse in content, landscapes, nature and experiences. How anything survives in Etosha blew my mind, but seeing so many animals at the watering holes was really special. We were incredibly lucky to spot a leopard stalking a herd of springbok, who eventually realised they were in danger and managed to escape - we were captivated. Our accommodation was really varied, but always good quality - the lodge just outside Etosha was particularly beautiful and the food was delicious - it was perfect after 2 days on "African massage" roads. The accommodation at the Desert Quiver Camp was incredible - the landscape was vast and so unusual and we were able to see more stars than we have ever seen in our lives, along with the milky way. Breathtakingly beautiful!

Sossusvlei and Deadvlei had been on our bucket lists for years and seeing them in person was incredible. We were thrilled to get the chance to climb Big Daddy and marvelled at the stark beauty of Deadvlei.

It was a privilege to spend time with the Himba tribe, see how they build their houses, how they live and to be invited into their homes to see how they perfume themselves, make sunscreen and get a glimpse into the reality of walking 15km each day to attend school.

Our guide Gideon was incredible - nothing was too much trouble and he was an amazing, very safe and considerate driver, an incredibly knowledgeable and interesting person and supremely well organised.

The team behind the scenes, especially Chemone, were brilliant at helping us to plan our trip, answering the many questions we had and were reassuringly thorough in the information that they requested regarding medical issues, travel insurance etc. This is a very professional, trustworthy company who take safety as seriously as customer service. Do not hesitate to book with them..

I booked my tour through African Overland Africa early this year, and I was really happy with the service they provided me.

From the very start, the two woman that helped me(
shoutout Chemone & Chantelle), were helpful, and quick to answer the many questions I had. Planning a long trip to a place like Africa had me feeling a little overwhelmed as it was my first time, but they made the whole process much easier by explaining everything clearly and helping me choose the right tour for what I was looking for.

Whenever I had questions, they got back to super quick and were always professional. The information they provided before the trip was useful and helped me feel prepared for the adventure ahead.

Overall, I found African Overland Africa easy to deal with and very supportive throughout the booking process. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to book an overland tour in Africa.

Everything from the beginning to the end was excellent. Reshma found us exactly the trip we were looking for and guided us through each step. She was always just a message away. Everything that looked complicated she made so easy. We had so many good tips and information from Reshma. The actual trip was a dream come true. We have not long returned from a fabulous trip to South Africa. We booked part of our holiday with: African Overland Tours. We found them to be very helpful and knowledgeable on all aspects of travel and accommodation, with good communication throughout our booking process, and whilst on tour. (Thank you Lee and Jodene!). We were assigned to a really great guide, called Obi, who drove us perfectly, all the way from Windhoek to Chobe! Obi was very easy to get along with, (which was great!); a very careful driver; very knowledgeable on all places we drove through and visited, along with vast knowledge on all wildlife encountered! We found Obi to be receptive and flexible to any suggestions we made, for changes to our day plans or our timings for starting our days, of which we were very thankful for. Overall, we had a really fabulous trip from start to finish. With great memories being made, and a longing to return at some point in the future. Thank you ‘African Overland Tours’ and Obi!
