Anglia Stairlifts stole my pension.

Anglia Stairlifts was the most unorganized and morally corrupt company I have ever worked for. In September 2025 they closed Anglia Stairlifts Ltd and a month later reopened using the name Anglia Stairlifts (Midlands) Ltd. The owners (Lee & Teresa Farrington) also have the company name Anglian Stairlifts Ltd.
I started working as a service engineer for them in the Summer of 2024 doing servicing, repairs and removal of stairlifts, it was a few months later that the first alarm bells started to ring that all was not ok.
First thing was when the other service engineer walked out, a while later the fuel card used for the van diesel would regularly be declined when I went to pay. Then I found I'd been driving around in a van with no road tax, followed by the owners of a storage unit we used asking if the bill could be paid as they were behind.
Then I received an email from the company pension provider stating that they had reported Anglia Stairlifts to the Pension Regulator as they hadn't paid my pension contributions into the company pension scheme. By the time I'd left the company my pension was nearly £1000 down. I was given excuse after excuse when I asked why they had kept my pension contributions but in the end nothing happened so I've had to go to the Pension Ombudsman.
In my final couple of months with the company I had to install several secondhand stairlifts, these didn't go well as it was more like Scrapheap Challenge than an organised installation. Stairlifts cobbled together from two or three machines, it was a recipe for disaster. They were sold as 'reconditioned' stairlifts when in fact they were straight out of another property.
On an installation in Boston the company owner turned up with a stairlift that was incomplete and damaged, he also scratched the wooden floor when putting the rail in place. We ended up taking the stairlift out after about a week.
They also started getting batteries of a lower capacity to use on Handicare 1100 stairlifts as they were cheaper for the company to buy. The original equipment batteries used are of a 2.6ah capacity and are only just sufficient for the stairlift, those they supplied were 2.2ah.
In the end I needed to get out and left. I'm still nearly £1000 out of pocket as the owners thought my pension contributions looked better in their bank account that in my pension pot.
I would avoid this company like the plague, the impression I have of them is one where they smile at you to your face while stealing your wallet while you're not looking.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

AVOID AT ALL COSTS - This company took our money in respect of the purchase and installation of a “through floor” lift. After some chasing the aperture was eventually created but they never arranged for the installation. After months of less than credible excuses and deceit we have issued Court proceedings to recover our losses.

Important Update 17/10.25
The County Court have found in our favour and awarded us our losses in full, however,… a couple of weeks before the decision, Anglia Stairlifts Ltd engaged in a dubious practice of offloading their debt to another company which seeks to make it unfeasible (impossible) to chase them for the debt. The new owner company has changed the company name to Ceased Trading (05994116) Ltd. The company remains “active” so far as Companies House is concerned and this in turn allows the original directors (Lee Farrington and Teresa Farrington) to continue trading using a similarly named company such as Anglia Stairlifts (Midlands) Ltd, (Company Registration No 15802283) or Anglian Stairlifts Ltd (Reg No 13019607)

There are a number of other honest and legitimate companies out there with similar names so I would strongly advise that before parting with any of your hard earned cash, you check on the Companies House website that you are not unwittingly handing it to these unscrupulous people.

Nearly 2 years after installation, have never yet seen hoist working...

Hoist was installed whilst we were on holiday (by arrangement). This was the second attempt at installation, as they totally failed to show up on the first attempt.

We returned home to have to scrape lumps of plaster off the new flooring as they had not bothered to put sheeting down.

The hoist sported a "do not use" sign, with no explanation. We dutifully obeyed. Weeks later, the installers returned to fill out the evaluation form, which was apparently all that was preventing us from using the hoist. However, in the intervening weeks, the battery was now completely flat and unchargeable.

Nearly two years on, I have never seen the hoist working. I've had various campaigns during that time to get Anglia to come out and fix it, before totally giving up again each time. They either fail to phone back at all, or come out and then disappear again.

Pleasant people but seriously disorganised. Be prepared to chase incessantly if you actually want to get anything done.

Do not buy or deal with Anglia Stairlift

I would like to warn anyone who buys or deals with this company to have fair warning about their customer service, after sales & the fact that they might steal your money like they have myself.
My story goes like this. This company sells on eBay too under (angl_mids), which is where I first had contact with the owner, Mr Lee Farrington. He runs a disability company providing & installing stairlifts & ceiling hoists.
My enquiry to him via eBay was for a 4 way controlled ceiling hoist, that wasn’t available on his eBay listing.
Mr Farrington then asked me to contact him personally via WhatsApp & he kindly gave me a costing for the equipment I required.
The next day I received an email for the full cost of everything I required. The only option to pay him was via bank transfer to his account. I wasn’t too happy about this, but being the only way to pay him, I sent the money to his bank account.
My job was booked in for the 24th May 2025, nearly 3 weeks before I required the equipment.
The day of the 22nd I still hadn’t received my equipment, so I contacted Mr Farrington to ask what was happening. He replied that it was being sent overnight to arrive on the 23rd. 23rd came & no delivery, contact again & it was the courier’s fault for not turning up to collect it.
Mr Farrington arranged for a man and a van to drop the hoist off to me on the morning of the 24th( the day of the installation). Driver arrived at 10am on the 24th, all good you would think, but no, the company had sent me a two way hoist & not the four way I had ordered & paid for, at an additional £600 cost.

I contacted Mr Farrington via video call & he told me, no problem, please install the two way we have sent you & my company will get the hoist replaced with the correct one.(at this time I was under the impression that my 4 way was still in the warehouse).

Install happened on the 24th & the client with a very disabled husband could use what they had temporarily. I waited a few weeks as I had a holiday for a week.
On the 14th June , Mr Farrington had man flu.
On the 21st June, Mr Farrington’s wife had a hernia op.
On the 27th June, Mr Farrington’s daughter had her appendix out.
On the 4th the engineer that was coming to me, tried to commit suicide!!
On the 11th July, the engineer was on his way, but realised he only had a two way hoist on board & not a 4 way hoist. Then proceeded to tell me that there were no 4 way hoists in the country & I’ll have to wait for the next shipment(with only a guess date for the end of the month).
HANG ON, WHERE IS THE 4 WAY THAT IS MINE, THAT HAS BEEN IN THE WAREHOUSE SINCE MY FIRST ORDER??
On the 15 July, I just gave up any hope of getting this issue sorted & spoke to my client, who said they could cope with the two way hoist & I agreed to take the £600 off the bill for the difference in price.
Thinking it would be a easy problem for Mr Farrington to resolve & send my money back to me(well so I thought)
I contacted Mr Farrington & ask for my money back, no answer, I contact again a few days later. Mr Farrington said he had sent a request to the accounts department. A week later, still no money.
I then asked Mr Farrington if he enjoyed stringing people along & treating them poorly & accused him of ripping me off. I said I’d be taking him to a small claims court, in which Mr Farrington simply said “yeah good luck on that one for £600” and basically not refunded my money until this day.

I’ve spoke to citizens Advice & have sent formal letter to Mr Farrington, requesting my money as it’s under the consumer rights act 2015, that goods supplied should match the description that I paid for.
Mr Farrington has refused to answer this letter, so my next step is to take him to court.

After such appalling service & after sales, I want to warn anyone who thinks about using this company, also check out their eBay feedback recently. I don’t want anyone to have the experience I’ve had with this company.

MARTIN PALMER

PS, just an update, the company has now refunded the £600 I was owed & no further action was required. I’ll still stand by my unpleasant experience with this company though.
