In my case, TalkingParents has been court-ordered since 2022 as the required communication platform with my co-parent. At that time, a free tier was available, which I used for years. In June 2026, TalkingParents eliminated that option, turning compliance with an existing court order into a recurring expense I cannot afford.

I contacted support repeatedly, explained my financial hardship, provided documentation, and provided the parenting plan showing that TalkingParents is court-ordered. I was told I needed a standalone court-issued “indigency ruling” to qualify for a fee waiver.

The problem? My Superior Court told me it has no mechanism to issue the type of standalone ruling TalkingParents requires under these circumstances. I provided TalkingParents with that documentation. Their response was essentially to continue insisting that I obtain the nonexistent ruling. No meaningful alternative was offered.

This creates an absurd catch-22:

* The court requires me to use TalkingParents.
* TalkingParents eliminated the free option that existed when the order was entered.
* I cannot afford the new subscription.
* TalkingParents requires a specific court ruling for a fee waiver.
* My court says it cannot issue that type of ruling.
* Without the subscription, I risk losing access to the court-ordered communication system.

For someone dealing with a high-conflict co-parent, this is not a minor inconvenience. Losing access to the court-ordered platform can itself become ammunition for allegations of noncompliance, while leaving the parent without the communication system the court specifically required.

TalkingParents also advertised a one-month free trial when I attempted to subscribe, but I was charged immediately. When I requested a refund and the advertised trial, support again gave me the runaround and ultimately said the “free trial” only applied under circumstances that were not clearly disclosed.

There is a fundamental difference between offering a paid consumer app and charging people who are legally required to use your service. If TalkingParents wants to serve courts and families in high-conflict situations, it should provide a genuine, accessible hardship program that works regardless of the particular procedures of a user’s local court.

Instead, the burden has been placed on financially vulnerable parents to obtain a court order that their court may not even have a mechanism to issue.

This has been an extraordinarily frustrating and frightening experience. I would urge anyone whose court is considering requiring TalkingParents to understand these issues before relying on the company for court-ordered communication.

This company clearly cares more about profits than it does about vulnerable families and children. I still can't afford a recurring subscription, and I still have no viable alternatives from this company. Their "fee waiver" that they love to throw around and response too many reviews like mine, simply doesn't exist. In a Facebook group of over 20,000 women, not a single person has reported effectively obtaining a "fee waiver."

The won't let you us if you don't pay. When you sign up, it will auto make you sign up the enhanced plan $16, not the basic $7. Then it will never sent you a bill to let you know how much they charge you. Suddenly one day you found out the error, they said they won't correct it.

As a company set up to aid parents, the app appears designed to cause more angst and problems to an already difficult situation.

Persistent glitches, only moderately helpful customer services and a second abrupt termination of my subscription. I received 12 minutes between being informed to expect changes to my payment plan but that I would be notified again should I need to take further action before my account was disabled - then minutes later informed my subscription ended.

These records were valuable and sensitive and this company exploits this fact in order to force costumers to agree to obligatory re subscription at increased payments to maintain access to their valuable information.

I’d strongly recommend using any alternative.

This is an awful site. Based in US with a strong capitalist business model. Absolutely Awful.

What a disappointment. The court suggested using this service as a free communication tool, and both parties agreed to include it in our settlement agreement. Fast forward a few years: the divorce is finalized, we're no longer in court, and now I'm being asked to pay $7 per month just to send and receive a handful of messages.
I have no need for the calling features, calendar, journal, or the other extras included in the subscription. All I need is a simple way to exchange about eight text messages per month. Unfortunately, there is no affordable basic option for users who only need minimal communication.
The company does offer fee waivers, but if your case is already closed, obtaining one may require going back to court and potentially hiring an attorney, which creates an additional burden and expense.
On top of that, I've found the platform to be unreliable and glitchy at times. Based on my experience, I would strongly encourage anyone considering this service to carefully review the long-term costs and requirements before agreeing to use it.

The calendar is really glitchy (putting random dates in that appear and disappear) even more so on the app which I pay for.
Not quite sure what I'm paying for tbh honest. The website is better but you don't get notifications.
Notifications don't allways pop up with the app either.

Horrendous scammers. I've had to resort to closing an entire bank account which I've had open for 20 years as these people refuse to cancel my subscription and I cannot Re activate my apple log in. Pig headedly refused even though they have the power to do it at the flick of button.

The app is riddled with bugs and the transcription is inaccurate.

This app is way too expensive for any value it provides toward the improvement of accountability and communication between parents. It does allow an abusive parent to invalidate, denigrate, manipulate and oppress the other with impunity, which ultimately harms the wellbeing of their children. You take additional security risks to your privacy by putting your personal information and documents "permanently" on the servers of this questionable third-party that must keep their security measures secret to avoid breeches. They then hold your data hostage until you pay large fees even just to print your own data with your own printer with your own ink.

Intermittent notifications.
Cumbersome.
Providing a 'solution' to a situation where non-communicative people have to communicate causing miscommunication, more antagonistic relationships and yet another reason for the courts to shaft and destroy a person's life and more importantly, the children's future.
Talking Parents should be ashamed of what they do...money making misery.

I would not advise that people use TalkingParents especially if you are UK or EU based, they are in breach of GDPR legislation and for example are refusing to close down my account, which is a breach of my Right to Erasure request.
I am having to pursue them through the US courts to have my account closed.
They also shouldn't be hosted through the AppStore when they breach legislation in this manner.
Do you want all your sensitive data and information stored by an unaccountable tech company based in Florida.
I would use a UK or EU based equivalent.
