⭐️ 1 STAR — ZERO STARS IF I COULD
BE VERY CAREFUL IF YOU ARE A SMALL BUSINESS OWNER.
I had an absolutely horrible experience with this bank and their supposedly “business-friendly” payment processing. I am running a business that is only about six months old, and they managed to put my business in a serious cash-flow crisis by holding my FIRST CLIENT PAYMENT.
I used their sponsored/payment-processing service associated with TD because I trusted that a major bank would understand how important timely access to business revenue is. Instead, they held the entire transaction for THREE DAYS.
Three days may not sound like a long time to a massive bank, but when you are a small, growing business, three days can mean everything. This was money from an actual client for legitimate business services, and I could not access it when I needed it.
The situation became so ridiculous and embarrassing that I had to go back to my client and ask them to WIRE THE MONEY DIRECTLY TO ME because I could not get access to the payment that had already been processed.
Think about that from a customer’s perspective. I had to explain to my first client that the payment processor/bank was holding their payment and ask them to send the money another way. Absolutely unacceptable.
This nearly put my six-month-old business in a position where I could not comfortably meet payroll and other basic business obligations — because the bank was holding money that belonged to my business.
What makes this even more frustrating is that these institutions constantly market themselves as partners for small businesses. My experience was the complete opposite.
If you are a small business owner, entrepreneur, startup, or anyone who actually needs reliable access to your business revenue, BEWARE. Cash flow is the lifeblood of a small business. You cannot build a company when your bank or payment processor can suddenly hold your revenue and leave you scrambling to figure out how to pay your people.
I am extremely disappointed, embarrassed by the situation this put me in, and completely done trusting this service with my business.
I will also be filing complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the appropriate federal consumer/business regulatory agencies regarding my experience and the practices involved.
My advice to other business owners: DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE USING THIS SERVICE.
A bank should help protect your business, not put it in jeopardy.
ZERO STARS if that were an option.
If I could give zero stars, I would.
My experience with Autobooks has been one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with a financial service.
I’m the owner of a legitimate New York LLC. Before I could even open my business bank account, I had already submitted the documentation required to establish my business. Yet when I tried to process payment from a customer for work that had already been completed and delivered, Autobooks froze the transaction and demanded even more information.
They wanted personal tax returns, customer contracts, business cards, my Facebook business page, marketing materials, customer information, and more.
To show I was operating a legitimate business, I even provided the signed customer agreement with the agreed-upon price and photos of the finished products that had already been delivered. I still don’t understand how asking for a business card or a Facebook page proves whether a business is legitimate, but I tried to cooperate anyway.
After all of that, Autobooks didn’t just decline the transaction—they terminated my account entirely.
The explanation? My business supposedly “doesn’t meet their standards.”
No meaningful explanation. No transparency. Just a vague statement that my business wasn’t acceptable.
To make matters worse, canceling my account also removed my invoices, creating even more unnecessary work. I then had to explain the situation to my customer, cancel the payment, and arrange another way to get paid for work that had already been completed.
I’m not a high-risk business. I own a legitimate laser engraving and UV printing business with a registered LLC, EIN, business banking, real customers, and completed orders. Yet Autobooks treated me as though my business wasn’t worthy of using their platform.
If certain types of businesses don’t meet Autobooks’ underwriting standards, that should be made clear before they allow those businesses to sign up and depend on their payment platform. Instead, they waited until I had an active customer payment before deciding my business wasn’t acceptable.
This experience wasted my time, embarrassed me in front of a customer, and completely destroyed my confidence in Autobooks.
I will never use Autobooks again, and I cannot recommend them to any small business owner. There are plenty of payment processors that value small businesses instead of making them jump through hoops only to shut them down without a meaningful explanation.
autobooks now processes payments between my credit union and Centerpoint Energy. Until this month, there was no issue paying my monthly energy bill. The payment is now being rejected with a notification from Autobooks to contact my payee. The credit union sees the payment debited and then credited back to my account, but doesn't see an issue. Centerpoint never receives notification of rejected of payment. Neither says there is anything they can do because they see no problem. There is no contact information for Autobooks in their email notification.
Awful system and awful service. Run away from this system.

I had a very disappointing experience with this payment processing company. During the application and onboarding process, it became clear that little to no due diligence was performed regarding my business. The account was approved and processing was allowed to begin, only for the company to later suspend and shut down payment processing after customers had already received products and invoices had been issued.
This left my small business in an extremely difficult position, with outstanding invoices, fulfilled orders, and no reliable way to collect payments from customers. If there were concerns about my business model, industry, or account eligibility, those issues should have been identified and addressed during the initial application review—not after business operations were already underway.
The lack of proper upfront research, communication, and consistency created unnecessary financial hardship and operational challenges. Small businesses depend on stable payment processing partners, and having services abruptly terminated after approval can have serious consequences.
I would strongly encourage other business owners to carefully evaluate their options and ask detailed questions about underwriting, risk reviews, and account stability before committing to this company.

Lengthy initiation of autobook to begin with, abysmal set up of payment processing, and horrific customer service makes this platform the bottom of the barrel. I would much rather panhandle for change on an active freeway and take it to the grocery store for payment processing than ever do business with this company again.
I used Autobooks for invoicing during the first four months of my business, and everything worked fine initially. However, once I began receiving larger payments, issues started to arise.
Payments were held, and after I submitted the requested documentation and contracts to verify the transactions, my account was ultimately shut down. I was told I no longer met their merchant requirements, but no specific explanation was provided.
I would’nt use Autobooks if your business expects to process payments over $4,000, because they will probably just shut down your account.
We received a scam email from "info[at]autobooks.co" CC'd to "support[at]autobooks.co" with a title "Searching for an easy way to accept payments in your Citizens account?" We called Citizens Bank to see why they have shared our email address with a scam operation without our written permission and knowledge. When we read those two email addresses, they said no information was provided to anyone associated with those email addresses. In the bottom section of the scam email we received, it was written, "Invoicing and online payments are provided to you by Citizens, and powered by Autobooks. Autobooks is a trusted technology partner of Citizens. Our secure platform is what enables your Citizens to offer invoicing and online payment acceptance." I will proceed with filing complaints with the FTC and the OAG so that they can do a thorough investigation into this matter. We blocked those email addresses to avoid getting into trouble with a data breach.
I e been trying to cancel since the trial and they keep charging me
The internet add on is super slow and never worked properly. Then they would not cancel my membership after the free trial they are still charging me!

Terrible company. Stay far away from them. As many many others say they will request all kinds of crazy docs from your company including tax returns to review before they will release payment only to reject the payment. This looks so bad to my customers. STAY AWAY at all costs!!

Not sure what all the negative reviews are about?!?! AutoBooks was offered through TD bank as ancillary invoicing and payment gateway to our business 6 years ago. We tested them out and have been a happy client ever since! We have had only one technical glitch with the website that was handled the same day by their very professional tech support department. They even sent a follow up email to ensure that we were fixed and happy. There are cheaper solutions out there, but the customer service alone makes up for it!

I used Autobooks through my TD bank account for 2 months to send invoices and recieve payments. Then they unexpectally cancelled a customers payment and closed my account with zero warning due to “recent chargebacks within your business banking history and average bank balance that is insufficient to cover potential chargebacks and disputes.” Only one time a customer made a payment from the wrong account and it was promptly resolved (Autobooks collected a fee twice on the same transaction) and that is it. My account had a sizable balance and was growing each month. Worst part was I was given no notice or opportunity to meet any of these “requirements.” They just closed my account and returned payment which does not look good to customers for a new business. They even said to try Square or Paypal in their explaination to me which is exactly what I’ll do. Highly recommend saving the trouble and using anyone besides Autobooks or TD Bank.
Do yourself and your company a favor and go find a more reputable platform. This company is not legit and is horrible for small businesses. Just don’t do it.
Autobooks decided to reject a clients payment with no reason other than "a thorough review by our team" followed by an email that my account will be closed in 7 days because my "business does not meet merchant account guidelines". They provided no method of remedying the situation even after contacting their customer "success" team. It reflects poorly and unprofessional to have to re-request payment using another invoice. Luckily there are other payment processors that will take the fees I pay for this service since Autobooks apparently doesn't want the business.

Your service started off great, but as we expanded our client base utilizing your service, it became the worst service I have ever experienced. You jeopardized our cash flow due to your slow communications and vague policies, which led to a rejected payment without any explanation. Worst of all, it required us to call repeatedly for updates, as your team would promise communication but never followed through.
I sent a cancellation request for my business account. I promptly received email notifying me of receipt of cancellation request and confirmation of cancellation. A month later i was charged again. The customer service rep, (employee) wrote the following:
“Those request would need to be taken up with your financial institution.
Thanks,

Poor customer service and no resolution of issues.
Set up credit card payments, first payment they want my new companie's tax return. Don't know how that's possible.
Autobooks was a service offered through TD Bank USA. They were supposed to be an simple way to ACH payments to and from our representatives here in the USa. The first transaction from NC to NYC took nine plus business days to go through. After several phone calls, I finally got them to pay the recipient. At that point, I cancelled the account with them at least three months ago. To my surprise, Autobooks debited my account for a monthly fee in January. This fee cannot be reversed by TD Bank. My only recourse is to put a permanent stop payment on Autobooks at the cost of an addition $30.
I had an outrageously bad experience with your company, which held my client payment for more than a week--requesting intrusive docs like my confidential consulting service contract to release my funds although I've been an account-holder for months. On top of the inconvenience this caused my small business, I was still charged an astronomical $240 on the $24000 payment, which would have happened faster through a traditional wire transfer thanks to Autobooks ridiculous processes. I requested a call-back to indicate when my funds would finally be released after "due diligence" about my legitimacy as an account holder with thousands in deposit and never received response.
I signed up with this company because it was made available by NBKC but there was no disclosure about the terrible hassle involved. When I went to NBKC for help, I was simply told that Autobooks was a third party and I'd have to manage directly--on my own.
(There were also significant accounting errors made on my account within the first few weeks of opening. While they were caught and corrected a few days later, the bank never contacted me to apologize or explain anything!)
Clearly, neither of these companies values me as a small business client. I'm copying NerdWallet because I chose the bank based on its recommendation. I certainly hope that endorsement will be reconsidered.
I will be continuing to spread the word, investigating whether further oversight action might be appropriate, and plan to close my accounts ASAP.
