I cannot recommend Darren Thomas and Barristers 4U highly enough. At one of the most difficult and overwhelming times of my life, navigating the family court system as a survivor of domestic abuse and fighting to protect my young daughter, Darren went above and beyond in a way that I will never forget.

Without being asked, without charging me, and working late into the evening, Darren took the time to read through my entire case, produce a detailed summary of the key Cafcass evidence, and then go further still by preparing a full professional position statement, all because he genuinely cared about the outcome for my child.

When I found myself without confidence in my existing representation less than a week before a crucial hearing, Darren stepped in at the last minute and provided me with the most incredible barrister. He made sure I was not alone walking into that courtroom and I simply cannot put into words what that meant to me.
What struck me most was his integrity. At every point he was honest, measured and thoughtful. He could easily have taken advantage of a vulnerable situation but instead he gave me independent, balanced advice and made sure I felt confident and informed before one of the most important hearings of my life.

Very poor experience with Barrister4U.
I paid £1,620 for a hearing that had already been vacated by the judge, which I was only informed of days later by the court.

Barrister4U initially tried to retain the entire amount under “non-refundable” terms. When challenged, they offered roughly half back as a full and final settlement, while refusing to provide a clear written breakdown of what was being retained and why.

After I contacted the barrister directly (copying in Darren Thomas, Partner), it became clear that no invoice had been issued and no payment had been made to the barrister. Only then did Barrister4U change their position and refund £1,260, keeping £360 as an “administration fee”.

This is despite their own terms including a 14-day cancellation provision of £125 + VAT, and the fact I cancelled within days.

Throughout the process, I was advised over the phone it would be “better” to accept a single figure rather than a breakdown, and key points were avoided in writing.

Overall, the position taken shifted repeatedly, transparency was lacking, and the way fees were applied did not reflect how they were presented.

I would not recommend using this service. You are far better off instructing a suitable local barrister directly and avoiding unnecessary cost and stress.

It was clear the documents had not been read prior to the meeting. This resulted in the majority of the meeting me watching her read the document to herself.

Communication/response was slow.

Lack of attention to detail - being offered meeting times 5 hours outside of the window I suggested.

Little advice actually given, even going as far as saying ‘I will leave that to X lawyer to resolve’.

Ive never met such amazing people that go out their way to help someone with no notice, I got given 12hrs notice and once i found Barrister4u it was only 8hrs until i had to be in front of the judge. They did it, they found me an amazing barrister who represented me and really well and we even got results. I would reccomend to anyone. Darren you was amazing,from that 1st phone call to even now your support is one in a million. Dont even worry about the price because if they can they will always try and help so thankyou
