Unreliable and unaccountable
Hiring Baxton Harper Accounting was one of the biggest mistakes I've made in business. I brought them on in October 2023 for a simple project—just a second opinion and minor amendments to work that had already been done by another accountant. They estimated it would take 4-6 weeks. Eight months later, the project was finally cut off by me, and only after constant follow-ups on my part did we get as far as we did.
For the first four months, nothing happened despite numerous promises. Every time I reached out, they'd do something for a day or offer excuses, and then I'd hear nothing until I followed up again. If I hadn’t continuously pushed, I doubt anything would have been done. This lack of communication and delays ended up costing me over $5,000 in CRA penalties.
On top of that, when I decided not to have them do my 2023 taxes due to their terrible service, they blamed me for delays, saying that my withholding my 2023 tax information was the reason the project took so long and could not be finished. Absolutely not true. And to top it off, they sent me an invoice in March 2024 that I never received, they subsequently didn't even follow up on, and then blamed me for not paying it and that caused the delays! I paid every invoice I received, but in my panic to complete this project I somehow ended up paying one invoice twice. Now, they refuse to reimburse me for this $680 overpayment, claiming a $600 "discount" they gave me earlier for as a consolation for the 'communication issues' they were experiencing somehow evens things out. That is outright theft and shows their lack of integrity.
The worst part? After all this, there was zero ownership or accountability for the stress, delays, or financial hit I took. I’ve spent too much time going back and forth with one of their Directors, Lee, who offered nothing but excuses, inaccurate facts, and deflections. There is way more to this story then I can type. Overall, Baxton Harper is unreliable, unprofessional, and not worth the hassle. If I could give them 0 stars, I would.
