Thank you so much to Lara for being my trainer. I appreciate her time and guidance that has helped me in securing a role on a Pension Board. After l graduated from Black on Board Lara was never tired of answering my questions and answering my calls for assistance.

Lara is not only my trainer but also my mentor!

We recruited blackonboard.co.uk when we had expanded our board at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre earlier in 2022, and wanted to equip our new trustees with the best grounding we could about their role and responsibilities. Both the ongoing lockdown and a limited budget presented a challenge, but with Lara Oyedele's impressive attention to detail and commitment, we were able to overcome both! She provided us with excellent pre-reading material for our new trustees, and made herself available by phone for anyone who had queries or concerns. This was followed by interactive online sessions which focussed on exploring the board's role and behaviours, and included a number of exercises prompting discussion of good and bad governance practice. Lara clearly has wide-ranging board experience and wisdom, and was especially adept at understanding and delivering on our brief. The feedback from our board was universally positive - and what's more, they enjoyed it too!

Last Summer I met Laura following her advert of a short zoom session she had planned called 'How to Change Linkedin for Board'.

I was new to the functionalities of Linkedin and displayed my profile in the corporate fashion for employment.

Laura took me and 5 others through her short session one Saturday morning. She patiently demonstrated how to present our current Linkedin profiles and how they need to be amended for board member searches.

In November I applied for an unremunerated board position with a Housing Association, the largest provider of supported housing for veterans in the UK.

Prior to my interview Lara spent some one to one time with me on the telephone preparing me for the interview. It was time well spent as I was successful.

Lara is well connected. I have seen her in action via the Chartered Institute of Housing and other guest lists.

Lara has been a real inspiration as I launch myself back into new NED roles. I have benefitted from attending a few of her sessions. One of the sessions was on 31st July on ‘Using your LinkedIn profile to accelerate your search for board role’ was excellent just like the other sessions. Excellent service from Lara. She is so knowledge of the industry and the standards and expectations, she was able to assist me in drafting a CV that is fit for purpose for getting an interview. Following a few sessions with Lara, she was able to help to identify additional skills that I had gained from my qualifications and experience, which further enhance my CV and helped me to secure a position as a school governor. This session was attended by approximately 6 other participants and lasted 3 and half hours.

I knew very little regarding the definitions and roles of a trustee, board member, non-exec director, commissioner, governor etc, so it was an eye opener.

What I very quickly realised is that I didn't have an appropriate C.V. covering letter or supporting statement to apply for any board roles.

What you require is clarity and a 2 page simplified summary of your experiences and roles.

Ms Odeyele had an excellent sense of humour and all the participants contributed to the conversations and questions.

She explained it was important to have a structured C.V.

She continued to talk about key competencies and board readiness.

She ended the session talking about training and guides and collators with relevant links to references to writing a good Board C.V.

I thoroughly enjoyed the session and left leaving with a new sense of purpose and Self worth/value and motivation.

Highly recommended.

I reached out to Lara two days before a three part interview to become a Trustee, whilst 8 months pregnant!
