Burke Bros collected and placed our belongings into storage on 5 February 2025, then returned them on 18 June 2026. Unfortunately, the condition in which much of our furniture came back was appalling.
Our bed and wardrobe, with a combined like-for-like replacement cost of approximately £1,580, were badly damaged. In my opinion, the damage clearly reflected inadequate protection and handling during dismantling, storage, transportation and reassembly.
I submitted the damage claim on 22 June. What followed was weeks of slow, complicated and frustrating communication. The proposed insurance settlement was under £700, which I considered wholly inadequate compared with the cost of replacing the damaged furniture. I eventually agreed to accept the offer on the express condition that Burke Bros returned the reusable hardware from the damaged items, as those parts were not included in my claim.
Even after agreeing this, I had to repeatedly chase both the payment and the return of my property, with long periods in which I received no meaningful response.
The hardware has just finally arrived—but much of it has also been damaged. Metal handles were packed together with other components without adequate individual protection, resulting in chipped paint and visible damage. Drawer runners are damaged or broken, and several plastic components are broken as well. These were the very parts I had specifically asked Burke Bros to preserve and return so that they could be reused.
The original damage was bad enough. The prolonged complaint handling, poor communication, inadequate settlement offer and subsequent damage to the returned components have made the experience considerably worse.
We have been left without a usable bed and wardrobe since 18 June, while having to spend weeks chasing a company that should have dealt with the problem promptly and professionally.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Burke Bros. A removal and storage company is entrusted with people’s possessions; when things go wrong, the quality and speed of the response matter just as much as the move itself. Burke Bros failed us on both.
