Unfortunately the reputation did not align. Yes, they are very expensive. Did the work match the price?Absolutely not. They cut corners (pun intended), disregard the companies standards, and disappoint.

From poor designing, scratched materials, elementary installation, and a very argumentative general manager, this company simply disappoints.

The customer service as well is minimal. Emails do not get responded to, installers seem depressed, the general manager seems to have status as if he is better than others and comes across belittling, and so much more. Learned this first hand while on site at my own home (pertaining to the general manager). Very unimpressed.

There are many options out there these days, and unfortunately this coming has gotten too comfortable and is lacking craftsmanship and integrity. I would avoid them.

I am a repeat customer of California Closets—and it’s easy to see why. I started with a walk-in closet as a splurge, saving up to make it happen. When the installers arrived, I was blown away. This isn’t typical chipboard construction that falls apart after a year. Every piece is crafted, the fit and finish are outstanding, the drawers gently close, and the overall look is stunning. It was like enjoying the finest pastry—I had to get another.

Same expert installation, same incredible attention to detail. Then came the idea to add a Murphy bed in the guest room. Christine helped with the design and provided a 3D walkthrough I could explore, and Josh Dickinson handled the installation flawlessly. Again, amazing.

I may be over the top, but we recently added a small closet in the laundry room. This one is beautiful, with soft-close doors and slide-out shelves. Vacilli came for the install, and his attention to detail was exceptional. Our loft was built in 1891, an old factory turned into condos, so the floors and brick walls are a bit uneven and off-square. Vacilli took the time to make everything look perfect, even adding exceptional trim details.

I can’t say enough about Christine, Josh, and Vacilli—they know how to make things right. From closets to Murphy beds, every California Closets project we’ve done has been exceptional. Each installation just makes us want the next one.

We had an outstanding experience purchasing at the Palm Desert location with Ashley. She did an exceptional job value-engineering a beautiful master closet, ensuring it fit within a reasonable budget. The quality and installation were excellent, and when a minor issue arose, it was promptly resolved to our satisfaction.

California Closets did six projects in total for us - our pantry, Mudroom, his/hers and hallway closets. We are planning on using them again once we get our downstairs renovation underway. They’ve been reliable in responses, site surveys and installations. Only issue is their pricing - they are pricey but all in all, their work can be trusted.

I was pleased with the work California Closets did with a room remodel. But when it was necessary to replace the remote control for my recessed lights (the only way they could be operated), I lost all confidence in the company. I was quoted a cost of $450 for a new remote. They did offer a 30% discount, but I still felt that was excessive. With a minimal online search I was able to purchase the exact model for just under $70, including s/h.

After getting royally screwed over by the Container Store, we ordered the Everyday line for a walk-in closet. It's about the same price as Elfa from the Container Store, but SO much nicer.

I got an email confirmation for the order right away. Everything was shipped in a timely manner and the closet is gorgeous. Super happy with our choice.

Three Strikes but Helped Out - Northern NJ franchise
My project was to add additional storage using exactly the same materials and finishes as the installation done 1-1\2yrs ago for our apt’s original owner. Those details is were on file with this franchise; the office was contacted and confirmed this before I allowed a consultant to visit.
What was installed was sub quality MDF, incorrect hardware, incorrectly drilled holes on door fronts and randomly selected backing. Consultant Rebecca didnt follow the hardware specified and when 1st install took place, incorrect hardware was applied. The interior backing was not installed as specified. When questioned, I was told this detail could be revised based on availability without client approval. Since this was not visible i accepted it but would not expect this kind of disappointing outcome from CC. Oversight and communication are seriously lacking currently at this franchise.
The positive, is that the owner worked with me to replace the sub standard material, order and replace the correct hardware and even rushed new door fronts when the revised ones arrived with the wrongly placed holes, although he himself was supposed to inspect the materials before the 2nd install took place to resolve the initial issues. The 2nd install had a great result, one which I am pleased with.
Considering the volume this franchise has, I was extremely disappointed in the service and execution considering the price we were willing to pay. CC seems no longer to be the premium custom cabinetry company.
