Verbally Abusive - Avoid if a Woman
I’m writing this review on behalf of my sister to protect her contact details.
My sister, as a young woman, broke down in the middle of a dual carriageway and contacted this company who quoted £140 for a 0.7 mile recovery.
The police present advised my sister not to bank transfer the money until they arrive in the event they do not attend. Terry then called my sister raising his voice demanding money, during which she explained she has been advised by the police officer to wait until arrival. At one point in the conversation the officer took her phone to talk to Terry due to his behaviour.
On arrival Terry was beeping, and exited the vehicle being verbally aggressive and demanded a further sum of money due to her not paying in advance. My sister was very visibly distressed at this point, and the officer came over and requested Terry calmed down. At this point Terry reverted to requesting the original price. While still incredibly shaken she transferred the funds.
My sister had to get in the truck during the recovery, during which Terry explained why he was angry and asked if they were “friends now”, saying “sorry, baby”. This is completely inappropriate and naturally made my sister feel completely uncomfortable.
The police officer followed the tow truck, likely due to fear of my sisters safety having witnessed this outburst, and ensured my sister was safe.
Although we appreciate the recovery effort on a Sunday, and Terry is clearly knowledgable - not following policy is not an acceptable excuse to talk to a young woman mid breakdown in such a way that a police officer feels the need to intervene, nor is it acceptable to demand extra money.
I contacted Terry to discuss the above and ask for an explanation prior to this review (I prefer not to put on negative reviews as everyone sometimes has a bad day). Terry stated he was not denying this happened, tried to justify his behaviour and not once apologised - he stated it was a “good price”, and hung up mid conversation. Although, he later called me back and reiterated the same, offering no compensation. In addition he stated he was unhappy as it was his “day off” - despite this being a 24 hour service. I asked he kindly reflects on this experience, and considers the impact his behaviour has on young women - he would not have anyone treat a daughter of his like this.
My advice to all considering this, is if you are a young woman, or a woman at all - avoid this company. If you want an out of hours service, avoid this company. They did tow the car in a timely manner, but there is no justification for verbal abuse to a vulnerable young woman.
