I am genuinely sorry to hear that the sat nav has not met your expectations. However, I was surprised to read the concerns raised, as I have not received any email, message or support request from you regarding the unit being slow, the tutorials or the map update process.

Had you sent me even a brief message, I would have been more than happy to clarify any of these points or investigate any concern regarding the performance of the unit. Unfortunately, the first time I became aware of any dissatisfaction was through this review.

Regarding the title "Cheap and Nasty", I fully accept that product quality and perceived value are subjective, and you are entitled to your opinion. However, I do feel some context is important for anyone else reading this review.

The 9" sat nav you purchased was advertised at £159.98, with multiple product photographs, a detailed description of its features and capabilities, and publicly available information regarding the warranty, returns and map update process before purchase.

CMNAV has never presented these products as premium £400–£600 Garmin or TomTom devices. My aim is to provide affordable large-vehicle navigation with a broad range of practical features at a realistic price.

The unit you purchased includes UK and European mapping, routing based on vehicle dimensions and weight, thousands of useful POIs and camping locations, a 12-month warranty, UK-based support, a 30-day money-back guarantee and Free Lifetime Map Updates for eligible units under the published policy. There is also no monthly or yearly navigation subscription like other manufacturers charge for various features.

Had the specification, price point or type of device not matched your expectations, this information was available before purchase and I would also have been happy to answer any questions beforehand.

Regarding the tutorial videos, these are a collection of practical guides I have created with my mobile phone, over several years, often in response to real questions raised by previous customers. They are not studio-produced promotional videos, nor have I ever presented them as such.

Their purpose is to show the actual devices, menus and steps involved in carrying out specific tasks. From the feedback I have received over the years, the majority of my customers find this considerably more useful than trying to follow a small generic printed instruction booklet. That said, I am always open to constructive feedback and ways of improving the support material.

Regarding the comment that "God knows how you upgrade it", the update process is explained in the publicly available Free Lifetime Map Updates Policy. A direct reference to this policy is placed prominently near the top of the product page specifically so customers can understand how map updates work before deciding to purchase.

I am sorry that this information appears to have been missed before ordering, as reviewing it beforehand may have made things considerably simpler for both of us and perhaps helped you decide whether this particular product was the right fit for your expectations.

Customers are provided with the correct map download link together with a step-by-step video showing the update process. Those who don't have the facilities, or simply prefer not to carry out the update themselves, also have alternative paid support options available.

Most importantly, you received the sat nav on 9 July and are still within the 30-day money-back guarantee. If the product does not meet your expectations, please contact me directly at contact@cmnav.co.uk. I am perfectly willing to accept the unit back in accordance with the published returns policy and arrange the appropriate refund once it has been returned and inspected (no later than 8 August '26).

I would genuinely rather a customer return a product that is not right for them than keep something they are clearly unhappy with.
