Generally good food, but bad policies and some rude people

I have been an avid Cottage Inn Pizza customer since about the late 1980s. In general, I think they have very good quality food, but some of their policies and quality of customer service is not good.

I definitely don't recommend the State Street location in Ann Arbor. Last year, I boycotted that location, because of some rude employees on the phone, some rude employees in person and that they messed up my orders on a number of occasions.

I think the Ypsilanti location on Washtenaw Avenue does a much better job than the State Street location. I order carryout from the Ypsilanti location most of the time.

However, I dislike how the Ypsilanti location now charges a service fee for using your credit card. They started doing this sometime in 2025. I also don't like how on a few occasions that they put my pizza sauce on my veggie subs, when I specifically requested the pizza sauce on the side. Sometimes the pizza is not cooked enough and the toppings slide too much. Their delivery charge is unfair. In the 1970s, I was a pizza deliveryman,and no pizzerias at that time charged any delivery fee. No reason to do it right now.

They need to get rid of that ridiculous credit card service fee and that ridiculous delivery charge! Also, they need to cook the pizzas a little longer.

Terrible pizza

Order, a New York extra large Pizza through Uber Eats, on February 28th Pizza was terrible. I call management, they said they can give me a credit, what make you think? I'm going to buy another Pizza, the Pizza was terrible. Terrible management, terrible Pizza.

avoid.... just dont go

ive never written a review before today, my experience at this restaurant has lead me to write a review on every site i can find avoid at allllll cost. if they screw up expect for them to politely tell you to screw off instead of fixing an issue. im beggin you save your money and time go elsewhere this is the second time they messed my stuff up in a row

Cottage Inn in Bay City Michigan stole…

Cottage Inn in Bay City Michigan stole my money. I placed an order for 2 pizzas 45 minutes before they closed and it was supposed to get here by about 9pm. Unfortunately, the food did not arrive. I tried calling, but no one picked up. I tried at least ten times to get through and find out where our food was. No one ever answered. By 9:15 it still wasn't here, so we ordered from somewhere else. WELL. Turns out they did deliver it, but 9:30. The driver didn't even knock, and we didn't know the food was there. My husband found it at about 2am. Cottage Inn is REFUSING to give me back my money ($50), even though this is completely their fault. They want to give me a credit or remake the food. In this economy?? I WANT ALL MY MONEY BACK. NO CREDITS. NO FOOD. MONEY. I also have video of the driver dropping off the food and leaving without a knock. The person who is working today, June 14, at 1:30pm was incredibly rude and was unwilling to help me in the way I needed help. She called *me* unreasonable and unprofessional.

Bro it's $50. You have that kind of money but I don't. We will never order from this place again if they don't give me a complete refund. This is so ridiculous.

Had a pizza from here a few times now

Had a pizza from here a few times now. Has always been lovely. Custom services has always been wonderful. The owner is always happy to cater to your needs (partner can’t have cheese) Nothing negative to speak about. Will eat from here again :)

Pizza was under cooked gross.

Pizza was under cooked gross.
Pizza was very soggy wet gross. The toppings were all in big CHUCK'S not good.
The onion skin, the tomato core, the yellow pepper coarse and stringy.
All these items you clean off and would throw away in your own home were on this pizza.
This is the only pizza that I had to spit out the toppings on my plate do too not being able to chew it.
The ordering process was a ordeal.
English was not there first language.

Not the best pizza but definitely worth…

Not the best pizza but definitely worth a try. I don't think that is much worse or better than a Dominos or Little Caesars, but I don't like ordering always from the same shop. I would probably order again in a couple of weeks but it's definitely not the best.

Cottage Inn Pizza is a must-try. Their pizzas are delicious, with fresh ingredients and a variety of toppings to choose from. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the service is fast. Highly recommend.

This is about the stores in Ypsilanti…

This is about the stores in Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor in general based upon myself and my friends.
Quality has dropped off in the last few years. Even before the Pandemic. Nothing gourmet.
Typical chain store food.
Sometimes they decide you are out of the delivery area even though they had delivered to you before. Maybe the driver doesn't want to deliver to you today.
Don't place large orders. We ordered a couple of hundred dollars a few times a year.
Pizzas, wings, bread, salads. Became a regular routine for them to forget the sauces or even a part of the order. We decided to go somewhere else.
There were times we made several orders ahead and didn't get some of them. We forgot to process some of them. Sorry.
Don't order on football Saturday. 3 hours for a delivery if you even get it. Try to call back to find out where the food is and they may not answer the phone.
Drivers taking a phone order can be a nightmare. After completing the order they may ask if you want to add the tip now. If you say no some of them become rude and tell me it's better for me to add it now.
Then if there is a problem with the order missing items or being cold it's nearly impossible to get the money back from the store.
There seems to be a problem with ordering through the delivery companies. We have ordered through the app and when we call to find out where the food is we are told that the order printed on the copier but not at the station. Then it takes a while to get the money back because the card was processed.

I really enjoy my job it’s nice to work for a company that does try their best for the employee. Things can sometimes get a little hectic but for the most part Cottage inn’s expectations are reasonable. One aspect I love about working here is they will let me work as much as I want or as little as I want.

I work here and so far its been one of…

I work here and so far its been one of the easiest, laid back jobs ive ever had! Aside from being short-handed,we've been extremely busy, its been non-stop busy since I started in late May 2020 becauseof covid-19 and because we give the option of no contact delivery or curbside pick up (including everyone wearing masks) also a 3 option of coming inside limit 3 persons at a time and a mask must be wore while inside the store. My pay is well above minimum wage (started off at $10.75/hr) even though i only work about 4-5 days a week and only get about 6 hours a day because of shifts being messed up because of people quitting and what not, but all in all I do enjoy my job and the people I work with! Customers can be difficult at times but anyone who works in customer service knows thats just part of the job!

They don't pay a fair wage and don't care about commitment

They don't pay a fair wage. They hire in new people at higher wages than the current employees. They also decided to keep their highly paid corporate staff and lay off the hourly employees during the Coronavirus.
They claim it is free labor for the store. They don't seem to comprehend that their paycheck eventually comes from the stores.
They allowed inappropriate language in the stores. This was done by corporate staff, management and hourly employees. Name calling and insulting comments.
They don't do anything in regards to no calls or no shows. They just expect you to stay later to cover. Sometimes they thank you but most of the time they don't. You do end up getting overtime. But then they get upset that the store labor is too high.
They hire in new people to become management. Much of the corporate staff didn't work for Cottage Inn before starting at the corporate office.
They don't want to promote elderly employees. They openly admit you will never be promoted. They hire in younger employees at higher wages. Many of them have no experience. They expect the veterans to train them but there are no rewards. Then the majority of the new hires don't last very long. They spend most of their time on their phones. They don't want to do any work.
They also allow favored employees to violate company policy in regards to discounts.
When corporate staff come into the store they automatically take over even though many of them have no experience working in a food service environment.

This is not a good company to work for.
