My experience was almost identical to…
My experience was almost identical Mr Holloway’s experience posted on 31/05/26. I had locked myself out and searched for an independent, local locksmith in my home town. Delta-locksmiths popped up first on the list claiming to be local (they are NOT). I rang and asked “How much”, he said “£45 for a simple lock”. (I have since discovered that front house doors are fitted with high security locks - so I was misled straight away. A guy turned up and said that the lock “was not simple, it was complicated”, and would be very difficult to break. He told me it would be £180+VAT. I wasn’t impressed, but it was late evening and I was desperate to get in. HE used a drill and THREE or FOUR minutes later he had opened the door!! I asked how could it be ‘difficult’ if it only took 3-4 minutes and how could he justify charging £180. HE told me that it took great skill and expertise and this is what I was paying for! THEN he told me that I had to pay for a replacement lock! I thought It was £180 for the whole thing. I was given 4 price options, but he said the first 2 options for £85 and £120 were ‘easy to pick’ locks. So I went for option 3, the cheapest ‘high security lock’ and was charged another £180+VAT!!! THEN he tells me that I have to pay for labour… another £85+VAT. By this time, I have lost the plot as I now have to pay over £500. The ‘technician’ as he kept referring to himself absolved himself of all responsibility for pricing and so I rang Delta back and told the guy that he had deliberately misled and and that such antics were outrageous as he led me to believe I would be paying £45. He took no responsibility and said that he couldn’t possibly list his entire pricing strategy when I asked him about the cost. BUt he could have said that “As it is highly unlikely I had a simple lock on my front door, it would could £180+VAT just for starters, and then I would have to pay for a new lock, labour etc”. AT the end, the ‘technician’ said that he wouldn’t charge me the ‘call out’ fee (he had been on phone to the boss) as a favour. UNBELIEVABLE!!! There was also a call out fee that I was finding out about for the first time. How gracious and generous of them not to rip me off any more than they already had!!!! In total, it cost me £534, a far cry from £45! I have reported them to Trading Standards. THe invoice was for 24hrs Service Ltd based in London - see Companies House; nothing to do with Delta! AVOID like the plague! Complete scam.
