Hidden/ unclear costings and poor communication
I attended a consultation for composite bonding (£80.00 upfront which does not go towards treatment package). It turned out to be a full check up which was great, the appointment was really informative and I was able to explore all of the options available to me for the cosmetic work I was hoping for.
At the initial appointment I was advised I needed a hygienist appointment and then teeth whitening before I could proceed with the bonding. I was happy with this and explained I would use my own hygienist as I was due a free appointment with them.
When I got back in touch to pay my deposit whitening I was told I needed to have another dental check up before I could start the whitening which was 65 pounds. I was genuinely confused as my teeth had no issues and I had explained I was going away to have a hygienist appointment. Granted it had been 4 months but I had no explanation prior that there was this time limit in place or I would have planned accordingly.
I decided not to proceed as I didn’t want to pay more upfront costs. I was then told that was fine although the appointment would have actually been free. Again, I was left confused as I had been clearly told the day before I’d need to pay 65.00. I was then told the whitening would be more expensive as previously quoted as there was an offer on when I had my quote. Again, I had no awareness of this and there is no detail of any discount or offers on my quote. I was again confused by this as I was initially quoted 375.00 but told it was now 395.00 and I would need to pay double the deposit due to the ‘offer’ now being invalid. I didn’t really feel comfortable questioning this again as I felt like they perceived me as an awkward customer.
It was genuinely confusing and I felt like I kept getting added costs and different information. When I was checking and clarifying responses were stand off ish and I was made to feel like I was being difficult. For context I never complain and am so easygoing but was just going round in circles with costings and the dental plan.
It would have been really helpful to be told there were time restrictions on when I needed to book everything in or costs would be added on/changed. I could have then planned everything in quicker.
I was eager to have this treatment but I was really put off by the unclear costing and inconsistencies in what I was being told in relation to this.
