We went with DH1 bathrooms due to their high reputation and reviews online. When meeting with their organising staff at first they were reassuring and professional up until we paid a £500 deposit.
There was no period between picking materials, to then receive samples of those materials to confirm your decision.
Throughout this process after this point we mainly liaised with Brian.
A “survey” was then undertook which was a payment of £2150- this was literally nothing more than a second set of bathroom measurements. We requested that the shower tray was to be flush to the floor as it was originally a large step up and we were reaffirmed that this was entirely possible. The “survey” failed to identify that the reason why the shower tray was raised was because the shower drain was directly align with a joist. This was only identified during fitting.
We then paid £2150 for delivery of materials which was done throughout one day by various couriers, no issue.
During bathroom fitting- Craig the fitter was fantastic and a perfectionist, offering us honest opinions about the materials selected and asking us for our personal preferences on some items. We can not rate him any higher.
As we had initially selected a vinyl flooring there was a requirement for a floor layer to attend, the floor layer laid vinyl on an unprepared floor- over exposed nail heads. This caused the vinyl to split on the surface, there was also no adhesive applied under the vinyl so it immediately started to lift. When fitting the Vinyl the floor layer had also caught the sink unit with his Stanley blade leaving damage to the unit. I informed Brian of all these issues and he suggested that it the same vinyl could be relaid and that replacement plinth for the damaged sink unit had a delivery time of 6 weeks. When the floor layer reattended I showed him the extent of the damage to the vinyl to which we agreed the floor needed to boarded out and new vinyl used for it to be laid. While I was contacting Brian over these issues he suggested that I contact the fitters myself, to which at this point I felt as if I was doing more leg work in organising than him.
We paid £1500 for completion.
The waste from the rip out of the bathroom was due to be collected within a week- it sat on our drive for 2 weeks. Brian said this was due to DH1 not being able to contact one of their regular waste removal contractors. This issue continued until I contacted DH1’s main office informing them of the issue and a different waste removal contractor was found for the next day.
The issue with the flooring still persisted. Brian had asked I discuss replacement vinyl with the floor layer. A replacement vinyl could not be agreed upon as those suggested were nothing remotely similar to what we had asked for. The floor layer said that I could find my own vinyl flooring regardless of cost. When I sent him the cost of some vinyl flooring that we liked he refused and said that it was too expensive.
At this point I called Brian and asked for a refund on the flooring and an update on delivery of a replacement plinth so that we can go our separate ways, he refunded us £140 for material cost and fitting. He also said that the delivery time on a replacement plinth was now 8 weeks and that he would send over an order acknowledgement for this- this we still haven’t received or have offered refund for the damaged plinth.
This bathroom cost us £6300 and it should be nowhere near that cost. We were told that bathroom would be complete in one week- it lasted 32 days and still didn’t get completed. If you use DH1 you may as well purchase the materials yourself, find reliable fitters and do all the organising yourself because it will save cost and frustration - you will end up doing all the organising of the fitting yourself and get strung along with inadequate communication and response when trying to resolve issues out of your hands, if your experience is anything like ours.
