Regarding the Reading Branch; We’re a waste business that doesn’t often post negative feedback, but our troubling experience with Driver Hire forces us to caution others. We urge companies, particularly those needing reliable HGV drivers, to steer clear of this agency due to their substandard driver vetting and refusal to take responsibility for serious incidents. Their drivers caused £4,500 in damage to our vehicles (£3,500 for a coolant tank, £1,000 for HGV damage from careless reversing). Worse, another driver stole equipment, requiring police involvement. We provided evidence and sought a fair reduction on invoices (per their Terms of Business, Clause 12.1 for unsuitability), but Driver Hire rejected our concerns outright, demanded full payment, and showed no willingness to negotiate. Their dismissive attitude and failure to ensure competent, trustworthy drivers (Clause 5.1, Conduct Regulations 2003) have caused us significant financial and operational headaches. Businesses in logistics should consider other agencies to avoid the risks and costs we’ve faced with Driver Hire.

Reading branch - more than disappointing

Regarding Reading branch
As a waste management company reliant on HGV drivers, we rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience with Driver Hire compels us to warn other businesses. We strongly recommend avoiding this agency due to serious issues with driver quality, including vehicle damage and theft, and their refusal to address legitimate concerns.
Two drivers supplied by Driver Hire caused £4,500 in vehicle damage (£3,500 coolant tank replacement, £1,000 HGV damage from reckless reversing) during recent assignments. Additionally, another driver stole equipment from our premises, necessitating police reporting and handling. Despite providing evidence and requesting a partial invoice reduction (citing their Terms of Business, Clause 12.1 for unsuitability), Driver Hire dismissed our concerns, refused any compromise, and demanded full payment. Their response was confrontational, ignoring their obligation to provide suitably qualified and trustworthy drivers (Clause 5.1 and Conduct of Employment Agencies Regulations 2003).
This lack of accountability, poor driver vetting, and failure to address serious incidents like theft and damage put our operations and compliance at risk. Other companies, especially in transport, should think twice before using Driver Hire to avoid similar costly and disruptive issues.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

Where do I start about this horrible company and it’s employees or specifically one, the first and only job I got through driver hire was unbelievable incompetent as in I got there I was handed some keys and paper work like I had been working there years, and that was literally it no explanation or guidance or nothing all the things you’d expect being a driver as in Ratchet straps, emergency contacts incase of emergency the list could go on but it’s not about that company it’s about how the employee who represents driver hire dealt with it. I then received a phone call from driver hire from someone who was swearing and shouting who kept talking over me, I didn’t even get chance to explain what had happened and why I left before he hung the phone up on me for him to then send me an abusive message swearing yet again and calling me a Prat, so I made a complaint to head office/richard which was absolutely pointless because all they done was got the same horrible person to ring me back no apology or nothing just shouting and talking over me AGAIN!! And then received yet another message saying I won’t be getting any more shifts through them.
I am deeply shocked and appalled by the lack of professionalism from an employee who is supposed to be representing the company someone who lacks phone etiquette that badly and who clearly has issues with anger should not be in the position his in answering calls from the public on a daily basis. I was looking into get more skills through there company such as HIAB, ADR etc to open up more opportunities but I will be taking my money elsewhere and anyone reading this I highly recommend you do the same.

It is important to note that when you are on assignment with a customer, it is their responsibility to give you a clear briefing, not least because you are carrying out work for them, driving their vehicle and so on. Therefore your comments on your briefing really don't relate to Driver Hire. However we have noted that you were not happy with the information you received from the customer and we will try to work with them to ensure this does not happen for candidates in the future.
For the benefit of other readers, this review does not cover certain circumstances relating to this case. However we will not comment further on a public forum. I have worked for driver Hire Sheffield…

I have worked for driver Hire Sheffield for almost 2 years.
I am retired & the flexibility suits me just fine. Ian Rob & the team are brilliant to work for.
I work the hours that suit me & if I am not available I simply say "Sorry I can't make that shift"
There is no pressure from the team to work. I have had a couple of jobs since retiring from my main employment & Driver Hire are the best company I have worked for.

Ripped Off....Sheffield

Applied to an advertisement for an Ad Hoc driver in Sheffield, Went through the application process and got my first job through them about a week later.
I received an email showing the booking form from Driver Hire Sheffield stating that I'd be driving for Thrifty and that it was a minimum of an 8 hour shift but was then told verbally by Bobbie in the office that I'd be getting paid a minimum of 7 hours, already an hour down, but hey ho.
The job was completed in 6 hours plus 30 minutes break, the paperwork was signed by Thrifty who also said I'd be paid 7 hours for the shift as that was their minimum shift.
Sent my timesheet off to Driver Hire Sheffield at the correct time and then received my payslip via sage and lo and behold was only paid 6 hours.
Rang Thrifty to confirm I should have been paid 7 hours which they confirmed then rang Driver Hire Sheffield and spoke to someone called Anne...She then went on to tell me that I'd been told the wrong information and that I'd only get paid 6 hours...I explained the booking form saying 8 hours, the verbal confirmation from Bobbie in her office and also Thrifty confirming 7 hours but she was having none of it....Her attitude changed and after I mentioned getting legal help she said she'd pay me the hour I should have been paid and that my contract would be terminated....I told her to shove the job where the sun doesn't shine and hung up.
Beware of this company, especially the Sheffield office. I'm a man of principle and don't really need the money but to be ripped off like this I felt I had to write this review just to warn others to be very careful when dealing with this company...Double double check what you're going to get paid!!!!!!

Applied for a NHS 7.5t driving job with…

Applied for a NHS 7.5t driving job with them but it doesn’t start for a few weeks or months. He asked if I could work for a different firm till the NHS job starts, I agreed and started a delivery job temporarily for the week was asked for the following week I agreed. I received a phone call on the Friday if I wanted to work 2 days at a timber firm and 3 days doing the delivery job that I’ve been doing I agreed but wile I was delivering I received a missed call so he sent me a text saying that he has booked me in for the week at the timber yard that I never agreed to. So I’m out of work again due to Driver Hire picking and choosing what they want you to do.
It’s bad management if they don’t even ask you and think you will do just do as your told because they employ drivers that don’t even know how to use a ratchet straps and want you to do all those jobs when I was quite happy doing what I was doing but that’s the agency for you thinking they know best how to treat people .
So I don’t know what’s happening with Driver hire

I'm sure you'll understand that temporary work can be unpredictable, both for the worker and for the agency, because it is always dependent on customer demand, which can change with little or no notice. Although we may not have had the easiest of starts working together. The Nottingham team have perspired in providing excellent service and meeting all required needs to tailor our industry. I have nothing but praise for this Agency which I had the pleasure of working for on a temporary basis which has lead to being employed by the company I covered, from the office staff to Payroll they were quick to respond and efficient answering any questions I may have had and always paid my wages on time you cant ask for more it has been a pleasure.

Driver hire are an amazing company to work for. They have a wide range of industries where you can be allocated work. I have been with them for about 10-11 months and already in full-time work the only time I was out of work when there was no work and that only lasted for about five days driverhire Stockport simply the best

The initial sign-up process was really straightforward, the team are easy to deal with, and they find me work that fits around my availability. Top driving agency!

I gave worked for Driver hire Stockport for nearly eighteen months after taking my work pension at 55 years old. I regularly work two or three days, Monday to Friday and I they have always found 3.5t work for me. Elisha and Jamie are always professional and courteous. I would highly recommend Driver Hire Stockport as a reliable, trustworthy driving agency.

Yes, Driver Hire is a franchised business and most local offices are independently owned by franchisees, who run their offices according to established and strict operating standards. We have operated successfully in this way for several decades and believe that the approach gives customers and candidates the advantages of dealing with locally owned operators and at the same time, the service and compliance standards that you would expect from a large, nationwide organisation.

If you want to work for an agency that sends you somewhere that you don't belong or double books you and then send you in a lorry to go and deliver a Lori and if you drive down the wrong road will take the wrong route to where you have to deliver the lorry and the company gets a PCN. This agency will take it straight out of your wages. Not some of it not part of it. Not a bit of it. All of it in one go and you'll work all week for nothing. I've never worked for an agency that is so rude. So pushy and almost talks to you. Like you're a 15-year-old boy at school in detention is unbelievable that people even put up with this company. I guess that's what happens when you're stuck in a wage slave system set up to fail and the wages they pay is absolutely shocking and don't even get me started about the umbrella b******* that this company runs

Highly Recommend

Honestly these guys carter to schedule. They get you work as soon as you register. Continuous work at the same location. I would highly recommend them to drivers looking to work.
