I was looking for an ethical bank that is transparent about where it invests my money and only invests it into companies and/or projects that are good for the planet and communities, and Ecology came out top. The process of joining was smooth and all done digitally/via photos of paper documents. There are a good range of savings accounts to choose from and although the interest rates aren't market-leading, they aren't bottom of the market either and for me it was more important to be certain that my money is being ethically invested. Transfers are pretty quick and all information is very clearly (if sometimes repetitively) given. Looking at the monthly newsletters, it's clear that they live up to their reputation for ethical, eco-friendly investments, and they really put their money where their mouth is with things like better mortgage deals if you're looking for a more energy efficient home or looking to do an eco retrofit. The only criticism I have is I would really like them to be a bigger company with high street branches, debit cards and an app, so that I could move all of my banking over to them.

2) the very positive attitude of staff when dealing with members
3) good interst rates and
4) becoming a part of an ethical organisation that contributes to the greater good makes the society

Very good customer service, straight responsible ethical company I believe in good fair and real communication updates happy with my 7 years with it all.

Avoid this Company at all costs. They string you along for months, take ages to reply, then ask for the same paperwork over and over and finally say you've been timed out and you will have to reapply and pay and do it all over again.....

I have had a savings account with Ecology Building Society for 3 years now. I saw it recommended in the Ethical Consumer magazine which impressed me enough. My brother also recommended them as he has used them a few times over the years, he has his mortgage with them. I have been really pleased so far, absolutely no regrets, a really good decision to join.

I approached Ecology Building society nine years ago for a mortgage to build a Straw bale house and have been with them ever since moving my savings over as well. I love the fact they support people like me to build their dreams in a green and natural way.

I've been saving With Ecology Building Society for 40 years. I really like that they were 'green' before it was trendy & they haven't watered down their values. It's great to talk to a real human being on the phone if I need to & the staff have always been friendly & efficient.

Exceptional values and ethos. Great savings rate for Cash ISA. Good customer service. Website needs improving but that sounds like it is on its way. Highly recommend to all.

I'm happy to have some of my savings with the Ecology Building Society, knowing that they are contributing to the construction of homes that are not only ecological but beautiful.

Having had savings accounts and ISAs with Ecology for nearly 40 years, I can confirm their reliability. I have no experience of what they are like as a mortgage lender, but, due to their ethical policies, my savings with them did not suffer AT ALL in the 2008 financial crash.

Competitive rates of interest and comforting to know that our money is being used for good causes.

We have been with the Ecology BS nearly since it's Inception over 40 years ago. I cannot understand the negative feedback back, in our view Ecology is a wonderful society, we have never encountered one bad experience with them. Every time we phone it is always a good experience greeted like a friend and not just a number, wonderful advice given. If you want to hang about on the phone for hours to be greeted by a robotic, scripted telesales person so to the big banks for us Ecology is just perfect.

One of the few truly ethical companies around, including paying all their taxes, and give decent rates rather than gimmicks. Online banking used to be clunky but has improved. With them for many years.

Very poor & very slow! Ny daughter tried to set up an account with Ecology, and ended up not bothering They wanted her to send her passport and driving licence to them in the post as claimed they had not been certified, which she refused to do. Bizarre company with bad practices and what seems like an age to get any sort of reply from them.
Avoid and go with a tried and tested bank or building society would be my advice.

I applied, via my account,for a regular saver. I thought that as an existing member my application would sail through and be avaiable immediately,or the next day, as is the norm for most building societies. Wrong, after waiting a week I had to phone up to enquire about the application, and was informed it is still sitting on the system and had not been actioned.Worse still, it had not got the electronic signature on it,so when eventually it did get looked at,they would have to send me a form to be signed before going any further,causing further delay. Ecology will have to pull itself into the 21st century if it wants to succeed in selling its products.If I had not got a specific need for this account I would not have bothered going any further with the application.
