Today 18 March 2026, I am reposting this review because Holmes Dental Care removed my original feedback. I believe it is important that other patients are aware of our experience.
On the 14 March 2024, my wife, Kerry, attended a consultation for a possible dental treatment with Dr Barry Holmes. The appointment began positively but ended very poorly when he refused to treat her because of her disability.
During the consultation, Dr Holmes asked her to disclose details of her disability. She explained that this was private information and that she did not wish to discuss it. At that point, he immediately stated that he would not treat her, and the consultation was ended.

In the last half-year, Eli and Nicky have delivered exceptional service as members of a proficient hygienist team. Their work is not only thorough but also marked by a genuine friendliness and approachability.

In January I started an elective process to replace deteriorating front teeth crowns, which included bone grafting .Having had these in place for around 18 years this was daunting. However every step was explained and planned. With great follow up care after each session. Seeing the temporary replacements better than previous crowns really instilled confidence that the end position would work. The end result was brilliant - crowns better aligned and they look fantastic. Barry is a perfectionist professional. Environment is calm and staff supportive and helpful. Thank you.

I have finally completed my journey with Barry Holmes and his amazing Team, I walked out of the practice just before Christmas having had my teeth straightened with clear aligners / Invisalign, two implants to the bottom jaw and 3 crowns and two veneers to my top front teeth. My journey was just short of 12 months and my whole experience was pain free, and it wasn’t a chore it was a pleasure to attend my appointments.
The fitting of the crowns was the final appointment and to be honest I was so pleased with the temporary crowns while waiting for the final crowns to be made I didn’t want to change them. I got a little anxious when it came to the final fitting because I thought this is it no turning back but when Barry gave me the mirror it was breathtaking, I was so chuffed I didn’t know what to say I was overwhelmed, I can’t stop looking in the mirror all my family and friends are mega impressed.
I have recommended Barry Holmes to family, friends and colleagues, I have even shared my experience with strangers. My whole experience from start to finish was first class. Finally I believe it’s important to write an honest review so that it can assist others to make a decision based on the information presented. Good luck to those embarking on their journey

Since undergoing several incidences of dental work under the NHS to my front tooth, over a long period of time - I decided to see Barry as was unhappy with the offer of a denture under the NHS to correct my "wobbly" tooth. It's the best decision I could have made. After a lengthy chat with Barry I opted to have an implant - I also needed a bone graft as well so from start to finish the process took a few months. It's now been over a year since my implant, it's rock solid, and a perfect colour match and shape. Without Barry's expertise things would be so different for me. All the staff are fantastic, friendly and knowledgeable, the technology Barry uses is just amazing as well. I have joined the practice now and I know I will continue to be happy with every aspect of their care.

I recently was taken on as a patient at John Holmes surgery and found right from the start all the staff, receptionist, nurses and dentist to be friendly and efficient. Leena Joy, dentist and Sarah the nurse were excellent on my visit that was a complicated job but which I felt no pain during or after the procedure. Leena explained everything she had to do and I felt relaxed and comfortable throughout. I would recommend this surgery. My partner has now joined also . Thank you to everyone I now have no dread of going to the dentist. Pamela Finch.

Having had a lifelong fear of dentists due to a horrendous gag reflex I can honestly say that going to Holmes has cured me of my terror. Everyone at the practice are so kind, sympathetic and nice and immediately put you at your ease. The treatment I have received from both Eirini for a root canal and Barry for implants (who reminds me of a young Louis Theroux!) has been exemplary. Lowri is also lovely and very efficient. I cannot recommend Holmes highly enough and travel all the way from Pembrokeshire to Whitchurch because their care is so good.

I am nearing the end of intensive dental treatment , that I originally commented on last May! It has been a resounding Success, I am absolutely thrilled with the end result! Barry, my Dentist has been so kind and patient, and totally supportive All the way through, his attention to detail is just second to none, and my teeth are now absolutely amazing! When my husband first looked at them, his first reaction was:’Your teeth look absolutely Superb’ if You had gone to a dentist for the Stars, you couldn’t have a better job, your teeth are just perfection! Everyone has commented on my super new teeth! To conclude I highly recommend Barry, a highly qualified Dentist, a consummate Professional, with very high Standards, yet having an amazing bed side manner! I owe Mr Barry Holmes a huge debt of gratitude, and his wonderful Staff, it’s like being part of a Family, who really care about their Patients!!

I recently had orthodontic braces for my bottom teeth which lasted 6 months. I was really glad I chose Barry and his team at Holmes Dental Care for my treatment.
They were all very helpful and reassuring for each visit and also understanding with any last minute appointment rearrangements. Barry explained each stage carefully and considerately with good attention to detail. I am very pleased with the end result and would recommend Barry and his team for any orthodontic treatment you are considering.

I elected to have two fairly extensive procedures (over 3 hours) simultaneously. Both were carried out in a highly professional manner. The crown was designed and fitted very efficiently. The reconstruction ran into some difficulties and we agreed that it would be better for it to be reworked, so I was booked in for a second (much shorter) appointment two days later, when it was fitted without problems. I am very satisfied with the way this was dealt with and I feel I can trust Holmes Dental Care to do the job well.
