My experience with Jace — why investing in your health matters

After several years of poor health, numerous GP appointments and regular basic blood tests that never seemed to give me any answers, I finally decided to take matters into my own hands and book a GP3 blood test privately with Jace.

I had been without a thyroid for 18 years, had my gallbladder removed and was six years into menopause following a total hysterectomy.

I had also been experiencing migraines that were absolutely terrifying — facial drooping, loss of sight and speech, weakness on my left side and complete exhaustion. At times, the symptoms were frighteningly similar to a stroke.

I had been offered things such as antidepressants, but I had never been advised to have a comprehensive blood screening.

Eventually, I reached a point where I was hanging on the edge and decided that, despite the cost, I needed to find out what was actually happening with my health.

So, in January 2026, I booked my first GP3 with Jace.

The results revealed extremely high cholesterol.

I was genuinely shocked.

In my 49 years, cholesterol had never really been discussed with me by my GP. I had never been advised that it needed monitoring or that it could be an important part of my overall cardiovascular health.

Suddenly, I had information that I could actually do something with.

I went down a rabbit hole researching what changes I could make. Nothing extreme. No miracle cure. Just sensible, manageable changes — including Indian psyllium husk, increasing my fibre, taking more steps each day and becoming much more conscious of my diet and lifestyle.

Then, in September 2026, I had my second GP3.

My cholesterol had come down significantly — without statins.

I still have work to do and I’m not at my target yet, but the difference has been remarkable to me.

And this is where I really want to highlight what I have experienced with Dr John T. Doherty and Jace.

For me, the value isn’t simply in having a blood test.

Dr Doherty takes the time to follow up.

He discusses the results with you, explains what they mean, talks through your options and provides reassurance. You don’t simply receive a set of numbers and then get left to figure everything out yourself.

That follow-up, the time taken and the ability to have a proper conversation about your results has made a huge difference to me.

It doesn’t just stop at the blood test.

Was I nervous about spending the money initially? Absolutely.

But looking back now, I genuinely believe every penny I spent was a penny well spent.

Because what bigger investment can you make than an investment in your own health?

I’m not saying that my experience will be the same as everyone else’s, and I’m certainly not suggesting that lifestyle changes are a substitute for appropriate medical treatment. But for me, having the information, understanding my numbers and knowing what I can work on has been empowering.

The possibility of cardiovascular disease and stroke is still frightening.

But it no longer feels like something I am powerless against.

I have information.

I have numbers I can monitor.

I have things I can work on.

And I finally feel like I’m actively participating in my own healthcare.

If you’ve been putting off getting a more comprehensive picture of your health because of the cost, I completely understand. I was exactly the same.

But for me, it has been one of the most worthwhile investments I’ve ever made.

I recently used JACE to take me home from a Donegal hospital to a Glasgow hospital following a serious injury. Jace medical provides a very professional service and explains your test results very clearly.

I have used Jace Medical to monitor my bloods since beginning HRT .
The staff are very approachable and the clinic itself is very well maintained and presented
I specifically choose Jace Medical as their Dr their John follows up with all bloods and discusses your results with you by telephone with an option for further referral if needed.
I find the service excellent and will continue to monitor my journey with them .
It's fabulous do have an establishment like this with follow up care and not just an email report .

Excellent service. I was allocated an appointment for mole mapping within days. After examination and the photographs being sent to a dermatologist I was given the results within a few hours. Very happy with the service and the outcome.

I was very impressed with the service of Map my mole .I had my results in 24 hours had my mole removed in a state of the art theatre and my histopathology result within 2 weeks so everything done in 4 weeks .
