I contacted Kelly after I was summoned to attend court in relation to a totting-up disqualification. Before contacting her, I had spoken to several other solicitors. The investigation against me threatened to destroy everything I had spent years building. It was, without question, the worst experience my family and I have ever faced.

When I was first arrested, I requested a duty solicitor. I had never been through anything like this before. I was exhausted, overwhelmed and terrified, yet I knew I was innocent and believed the matter would be resolved quickly.

Instead of helping me understand the process or giving me confidence, the duty solicitor advised to answer “no comment” during my interview. I left feeling frightened rather than reassured.

After I was released, I contacted that solicitor with evidence that I believed demonstrated my innocence and asked what we could do next. During that conversation, the solicitor was eating while speaking to me on the phone, which only reinforced my impression that my case was not being taken seriously. I was told there was nothing we could do other than wait for the police to complete their investigation and, eventually, submit the case to court. When I asked about pre-charge engagement and whether we could challenge matters before that stage, I was told it was essentially “hocus pocus”, that it preyed on vulnerable people and that it was impossible to stop the case from being sent to court.

That advice never felt right to me.

The police had also seized my passport as part of my bail conditions, and Kelly successfully applied to the court to have it returned to me. Throughout the investigation, she was relentless in protecting my interests.

The result was exactly what Kelly had worked tirelessly towards from day one: No Further Action. The case never reached court.

Even after achieving that outcome, Kelly’s work didn’t stop. She has continued to assist by taking further steps to have the records removed so this chapter can finally be closed properly.

This investigation was the worst thing my family and I have ever experienced. It threatened everything we had worked so hard to build. Thanks to Kelly, although our foundations were shaken, they remained standing. We can now move forward with our lives and begin building again.
