Had a great experience with Ohana. Found an apartment I was interested & immediately was set up on a call with the founder of Ohana and the owner of the apartment so it felt legitimate. Signing the contract & making the payment all felt secure. Arrived to the apartment and was let in with no issues. Had a wonderful month long stay. Apartment owner was communicative throughout my stay if I had questions. No issues checking out & I received my security deposit back with no issues as well. Would sublet through this company again.

After trial and MUCH error with random subletting platforms, I am so relieved to have found Ohana. All parties involved made me feel comfortable and prepared to sublet a place for my internship earlier this summer. I was especially glad I had the opportunity to meet the host and get a feel for the space before move-in even happened, as I was definitely nervous about being scammed or blindsided. I don't often write reviews, but the safety, security, and friendly nature of this platform should be made known to as many people as possible.

Unlike most others, they don’t charge any fees to hosts, which is a huge plus. They also make the deposit and money transfer process much safer and more secure. Everyone I’ve interacted with at Ohana has been incredibly friendly and easy to talk to. Great platform run by genuinely kind people—highly recommended!

Predatory fee. They charge 5% monthly fee on top of the rent while providing barely any value. Better to list on any other site.

Subleasing is a new way of living! I’m a digital nomad, and NYC is the place I want to be during the summer (definitely not in winter). It was my first time trying Ohana, and I loved it. Everything was so clear and easy.

Ohana is by far the best sublet platform I’ve tried.I always worry about paying a deposit and having the host disappear on me. Having a third-party platform hold the deposit definitely gives me peace of mind. Honestly, can't believe something like this didn’t exist sooner. And by the way — they don’t charge any fees to the host.

Had an awful experience with them. I wanted to cancel the sublease because it wasn't working out within 12 hours of signing the lease and the co-founder called and yelled at me for 20 minutes. He said "I dont care about it. We will make you pay 50% of the rent either ways". The sub-tenant and I were both ready to cancel but he didnt listen and kept yelling at me. I paid them but the tenant never got his deposit back. Would not recommend.

Finding a place for the dates I needed this summer was easy and I liked that I got to meet over a call beforehand. The apartment I booked was not exactly as I expected from the photos/tour, but the team was responsive when I reached out about this issue and was able to resolve it for me quickly. I was recommended this site by a co worker and so far so good!!

Great experience renting a short term property via ohana. Had some issues but the team addressed with the host quickly! Would definitely recommend if renting in nyc

I wanted to like LiveOhana.ai. I wanted to meet the tenants from whom we would be subletting and do a virtual tour. That all worked well in my opinion. But when I went to book and read the terms, they do not verify that the tenant is on the actual lease or that the tenant would put me down as an official occupant which is needed if there are any issues or if I am questioned by the landlord. After every interview with a tenant, I got texts saying that that tenant sent out another offer to someone else and that I should hurry up and pay the deposit to secure the place. This happened for every single interview about 2 hours after the interview. According to this, one tenant had sent out 6 offers in one day, one at 2:00 am, … and I still think he hasn’t sublet his place yet. Their bots are obviously fraudulently reporting this information to me.

Having said that, if I found the right place for us and was able to verify everything properly and get added as an official occupant, I may have booked with them. LiveOhana had by far the most sublets available in the area in which I was looking. Ultimately, I found my place through LeaseBreak.

Ohana misrepresented the sublease process by framing their agreement as a casual "offer letter," failing to reasonably inform me of critical terms like the half-month rent ($900+$300+ service fees in my case) cancellation penalty. At no point during signing was I alerted to this severe penalty or given an opportunity to acknowledge it explicitly. The platform’s lack of transparency left me blindsided by obligations I never meaningfully consented to. Subletters deserve clear, upfront disclosure of high-stakes terms—not buried clauses that punish users for misunderstandings. Avoid Ohana if you value informed consent.

I really tried to like this service but its soooo annoying if you're looking for a place to live and ultimately I felt my time was wasted on more than one occasion. First, the search function technically doesn't work. I tried so many times to screen and filter for pet-friendly "whole-apartment" options that were available on my dates and just saw a whole ton of other irrelevant stuff that made me have to go though each listing one by one. Sometimes the filter says the listing allows pets but then the listing itself says otherwise. Not sure why an engineer can't fix this. Next, I wanted to sublease a place in NYC for 1 month and the room literally was a windowless cell with a mattress and they wanted to charge me an entire month of deposit. I'm not sure how you would damage that room to that expense when there's no carpeting, curtains, and BARELY any furniture. So that was a no go. The worst part is, the service practically forces you to do 3-way zoom calls with each of the tenants you are interested in subletting from before you can transact. Some people are busy or have jobs where they can't chit chat during the work day and hence, we want a service where things are automated and online. By jamming themselves into the process and slowing it down constantly, I was totally turned off by the Ohana service and gave up / got an airBNB instead. They just seem overall really clueless to the market in NY. Not sure if anyone is actually based here or if the customer service is all abroad in call centers etc. The general incompetency did not leave me with any confidence that I'd ever see my deposit returned and other reviews complain about that as well (though they are buried with 5-star reviews probably written by Ohana's own customer service agent Berlin. EXTREMELY sketch that there are so many and they all sound written by the same voice).

Renting in NYC can be scary and I evaluated many options (from FB marketplace, Listings Project), and ended up finding the best place with Ohana. The process is clear and trustworthy and the Ohana stuff are super communicative. Berlin, one of the staff, literally responds in seconds after I ask anything. She is faster than chatgpt, I'm not sure how lol. Overall I had a great experience with Ohana and have already rented twice with them!

Berlin is extremely helpful and responsive, and Ohana makes renting in major cities such a breeze—no more scams, questionable leases, or stolen security deposits. This service (and its representatives) are a godsend!!

Just finished my sublease through Ohana and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I was scrambling last minute to find an apartment in NYC and ended up finding a great place on Ohana that blew my expectations out of the water. The Ohana team was incredibly responsive and communicative throughout the entire process, and I couldn't recommend them enough!

The Ohana team was insanely responsive given I was in a rush and confirmed all aspects of the sublease over a quick call as well as a tour. Special shoutout to Berlin as she ensured an efficient conversation and made me aware of everything needed to close the contract in a timely manner.

Getting my listing booked was super smooth, and the team was incredibly friendly throughout. Big thanks to Berlin Smallwood for the amazing help. If you're heading out of town, these folks will get your apartment booked with ease. Highly recommend.
