We needed a Certificate Provider to assess mental capacity for Lasting Powers of Attorney. Very swift response with written quotation when we made our initial enquiry. Although Certificate Provider was new to the role she covered all points thoroughly by reference to a check list and signed the certificate and also acted as a witness. The mental capacity assessment report was provided by email promptly a couple of day after appointment. I found this to be a quick and efficient service which was a welcome relief when my father's doctors surgery advised that they no longer provide this service.

Recommended by our Deputyships Solicitor, Nellie Supports made a fast appointment for an online assessment. I wasn't sure it would work with our daughter, but they reassured me that they had a good track record and if it wasn't appropriate they would stop the assessment. In fact, this is what happened and my daughter had a very visible meltdown and the assessor quickly suggested that we stop and he would call back after 10 minutes. We discussed the options and agreed that we would try an in person assessment and after three attempts a fixed date was settled. I knew it would not be easy to do an assessment with my non verbal daughter, but the Social Worker who visited was very good and after meeting us all, was able to confirm that she could make the necessary reports. I am not happy that we had to go through this process as it is not a positive one for my daughter, but I am pleased to say that all Nellie Supports interactions with us were helpful, human and understanding

We have engaged the services of Nellie Supports twice to make a Mental Capacity Assessment - one for LPA and one for a Will - and on each occasion found them caring towards their client whilst also making absolutely certain of the ability to understand the process. As they went through the process they checked back in a thorough way to enable the assessment outcome to be made on the client's ability to comprehend and follow the process. They were prompt in dealing with the requests and very professional throughout.

Arranging a capacity assessment was super easy and the turnaround in terms of reporting very fast, which is what we needed. We were visited by a social worker who seemed to have good knowledge and quick grasp of our daughter's needs. However, we were disappointed by the report as we felt we had given a lot of information which was not included and in our non-expert opinion, it lacked strength in the wording, making us worried that it may not be enough to support our Deputy application.

I was being frustrated for months, literally, trying to get my mum’s mental capacity formally assessed by a “practitioner” in order that I can apply to become a Deputy of the Court of Protection for her financial affairs.

Her doctors refused without explaining why. Meanwhile after thinking I’d found headway with both her social worker and then suitably trained nursing staff at her care home, ultimately, for internal protocols, they had to decline assessing her (even though they knew her best).

It appears that for potential litigation reasons I needed to employ an independent social worker. As I was sorting the paperwork myself, I didn’t have anyone telling me this.

The costs went up, however, all of sudden everything started happening.
Nellie Supports responded immediately (2 other companies still haven’t) and they got someone at the care home as soon as it was possible. Paperwork followed the morning after their afternoon visit.
