Very disappointed
We paid £2k cash, plus our £48k narrowboat in part exchange, in late 2020 against a new boat that was due to be in build from February to May 2021. It is now June and the build hasn't even been started. They seem unable to give us a date for completion, and they've had £50k of our money almost six months, as they resold our old boat straight away. Now they're trying to tell us that the price of steel has gone up so we need to pay extra for our boat. Week after week there is further stalling. I am really hoping to be able to update this with something more positive soon, but at the moment I just wish that we could rewind eight months and take our business elsewhere.
Update December 2021 - we ended up ringing round various other boatbuilders soon after I posted this review. We found one with capacity to build our boat to the design we'd agreed with New and Used, for more than £10k less than their price, and no extra for the increase in steel prices. We have been welcomed to visit at every stage of the build and are taking delivery of our new boat in early January 2022...start to finish in only about six months. The only positive regarding New and Used was that their Finance Director was incredibly efficient about processing the refund of our £50k that they'd had for several months.

Alison, I am so sorry that you got caught up in the whole costs and price rise situation that every builder in the country found itself in. Not only was the price of your boat unsustainable but you suffered long delays in the build times of your boat. As I say every builder was going through hell at the time as not only were prices going through the roof but suppliers were unable to deliver component parts in a timely manner and in certain cases at all! Please be assured that despite how it may have appeared at no point did we ever give you intentionally misleading information, at all times we acted on the information given to us. I am aware that shortly after you posted this we returned your deposit and indeed the proceeds of the boat that we had sold on your behalf (£48k). As I say we as a company, and myself personally, are very sorry that this unprecedented series of events, we found ourselves in, must have been very upsetting for you and hope that you are now enjoying our wonderful canal system. Purchase of first narrowboat
I've had the pleasure of dealing with Ian, Glyn and Darren from the New and Used Boat Company at Merica marina who've assisted me with the purchase of my first narrowboat. They all couldn't have been any more helpful if they tried - especially in such difficult times given the Covid 19 pandemic and the limitations and restrictions that they've had to work with.
They're all genuine and lovely guys, warm and welcoming, honest and upfront, and with real passion for what they do. They've been only too happy to help with all of my queries and concerns, no matter how big or small. Hats off to them all - Thank you so much for all of your hard work guys!

Used Narrowboat Purchase
I purchased a used Narrowboat from the Mercia Marina office in April 2019. The company has a decent website, that's how I found the boat. Their staff are friendly and helpful both on the phone and in person, which made the viewing pleasant ultimately leading to a sale. The reason I haven't given 5 stars, is due to the fact that they aren't very good at replying to emails, as well as forgetting a few things I had raised during the purchase process. I'm happily living aboard the boat full-time, thanks New and Used!
