I hired NRG Clean Power for a premium solar, battery (FranklinWH), and Generac standby integration in the Houston area. It has been a 6-month masterclass in negligence.

NRG operates by selling complex systems from their California headquarters and dispatching unsupported, unequipped local subcontractors to figure it out. Their crews left my home with active life-safety hazards—including leaving a heavy-duty generator breaker engaged while the system was completely unwired, creating a massive backfeed and fire risk.

When they finally sent someone to 'fix' it, the subcontractor incorrectly wired the 240V utility sensing lines, causing an electrical arc that completely destroyed my Generac's main controller board. They have also ignored an independent inspection report detailing severe National Electrical Code violations regarding the solar wiring on my roof.

I am now forced to hire independent Master Electricians and certified Generac dealers to rebuild the system safely and repair the physical damage NRG caused. Do not trust them with your home.

I previously had a positive experience with NRG Clean Power in 2024 when they successfully installed solar panels at my home in Stockton, CA. That is why I returned to them in 2025 to expand the system by doubling the panels and batteries to reduce PG&E costs and work toward living off-grid. The sales, accounting, and planning departments handled their roles promptly and professionally. The project proceeded smoothly until it was assigned to the project coordination team on December 1, 2025 (first email from Jared Smith), after which progress stopped entirely.
The system remains non-operational more than 30 days past the contracted completion date of January 31, 2026. I have paid 80% ($42,481.34) of the $53,601.68 contract, but NRG has not completed the installation, submitted for final inspection (City of Stockton Permit: SA20251120-150-1113-1784-A), or applied for PG&E Permission to Operate (PTO).
Key issues include:
No code-required heat detector was ever shipped or provided (confirmed by subcontractor on February 18, 2026; technician could not install it).
Mounting rails and construction debris have remained abandoned on my property since my initial complaint on January 27, 2026 (after installers left unfinished on January 24), creating a trip hazard and potential liability.
On February 18, 2026, a subcontractor performed minor work (electrical box, stickers, some part collection after my in-person complaint) and took photos for HDM Renewable Finance (PPA financier), but was not authorized or equipped to finish the install or remove rails.
No response to my outreach attempts on February 26 and March 5, 2026 — total communication blackout for over 19 days.
PG&E Status: PG&E confirmed on March 9, 2026 (Project #132 529 249) that NRG submitted the interconnection application in December 2025, but it remains pending solely due to lack of final building permit approval from the City of Stockton. The City permit is still issued/open with no final inspection requested.
I am incurring ongoing PG&E costs due to the delay and non-production. I am withholding the final $10,620.34 until completion.
I have filed formal complaints:
CSLB solar complaint for abandonment under B&P §7107 CSLB #NA2025014567
BBB complaint submitted March 9, 2026.
I request NRG:
Remove all abandoned materials (rails/debris).
Supply and install the required heat detector.
Commission/turn on the system and submit for inspection/PTO.
Reimburse excess PG&E bills since January 31, 2026 (estimated $200–$350/month).
I am willing to mediate and hope for prompt resolution.

The project took about 2 months, but Pao handled the project well.

Faulty, incomplete installation of Powerwall and months and months waiting for them to fix it. Terrible customer service with never-ending lies and broken promises. Stay away from this company. They will send you a bill quickly but take forever to finish their faulty work. The worst.

NRG Clean Power provided an incredible sales consultation, and was able to give me the most affordable quote for the solar system I've purchased. They are the only solar installer I know with the Price Match Guarantee, and they've honored it even after I've signed the contract.
My project has been fully completed last year, on time and with high quality workmanship. Support team is excellent and very helpful. I've found NRG to be very honest and trustworthy. I’ve had an excellent experience with NRG Clean Power from start to finish. They previously installed my solar panels and two Powerwall 3 batteries, and when my solar system started producing more energy than I needed, I decided to add a third Powerwall. Shelley Immken has been absolutely outstanding to work with! Our battery went bad right as we were in the middle of removing our solar panels for a roof replacement, and Shelley handled everything flawlessly once the panels were reinstalled. She immediately scheduled a technician to inspect the system, ordered a replacement battery, and had it installed without delay.

Shelley responds to emails incredibly fast—often within 15 minutes—and goes above and beyond to ensure the quickest possible service. On one occasion, she even walked me through every step of a complicated system reboot over the phone. Her dedication, expertise, and exceptional customer service truly set her apart. NRG is very lucky to have her!

Once we had the permits completed the installation moved fast. I was out of the country during my installation and when I came back the installation was already completed! Thank you Gabriel for getting the installation knocked out.

I signed a solar+battery contract more than a year ago (July 2024) and it still hasn't passed inspection. Permitting took longer than expected but was probably the easiest step. Once the permit was approved (November 2024), NRG told me they didn't have what they sold me in stock. It took months for the items to be in stock. The system finally got installed in May 2024 but inspection failed because they did not follow the plan from the permit. They came to make corrections multiple times, but every time it failed (already failed 4 inspections).
The project doesn't seem to move forward unless I call them to push them to schedule. I have to call several times because they rarely pick up my calls.
I do not recommend them at all.

We are returning customers with NRG. Both our previous and current home have NRG's solar. We are extremely happy with NRG's service and expertise. Their warranties are the best. NRG has been around for a long time and we predict they will be around forever since their product line is not just Solar. Antoinette Miner was the contact person who coordinated the project for our current home in Los Angeles. She has been very persistent and never gave up when we showed very little interest at the start thinking if this was the right time. Andrew Cohen made some excellent business calls to help us with decision making and start the project right away. Gabriel Weizmann coordinated the installation. The whole installation was structured well and completed without any glitches/hiccups. Bill Russel coordinated the NET metering link with LADWP and cleared several obstacles along the way by making several calls to LADWP. Bill's accountability is unmatched. Entire team is seasoned experts. I will be returning to NRG for a 3rd time in 2026 or 2027 for Solar for our ADU.

NRG solar is way to go if you looking for solar panel install on time and on the budget .The crew has great response time .I did work with PM Aracely Lopez from NRG and she did help great job helping me with my project.

After a long time researching and exploring my options, a couple months back I decided to go forward with NRG to install solar and a battery in my house.

In this research, I went through the too rated companies in the US and in my state. All of them offered very similar prices, but the differentiator in this case was the customer service and the technologies used.

NRG’s sales team (Al A) was straightforward and easy to work with, not spamming my phone or setting up endless calls and surveys. Their system design team were very quick to get back to me on my questions and shared a comprehensive document of the technology of their panels, batteries, and other components.

Once I decided what would be the technology I wanted (460W panels and Tesla Powerwall 3), their finance department contacted me with multiple financing options. None of the other companies offered me the array of rates and timelines that Adriana M showed me. She went through them with me as this was my first time getting a loan like this.

After all the initial setup was “OK” by the city and the loan company, I was transferred to Aracely L. She was my project manager and she coordinated the installation with the engineering team and the communication with my power company. This was one of the parts where people complained the most in other companies, but she made this stage go smoothly and with almost zero interaction with me. I didn’t even have to be at home during this process and by the time I came back from my travels, the installation was completed.

I recommend this company to anybody who wants to get solar. No schemes, full transparency, best customer service, and great pricing.

Detaches ADU - inquiry start early June execute contract end of June. Andrew Sales Director and Antoinette Senior Energy advisor - very responsive and helpful. Working with design department and complete by end of July and submitted to City approve within 3 days. Pricilla was wonderful lady almost handling entire installation process. She is the best. After installation complete submitted to PG & E and PTO within 3 days.

Suggestion to select better installer contractor with proper tools and better communications with NRG or customer.

This year, I finished a brand new detached addition in the back of the main house. At the time, a solar system was required by the city, for the addition. This was not my choice because it added an expense to the building and it is a small house that will be rented and utilities paid for by tenants. After having the solar system installed by NRG Clean Energy for several months now, I am glad that I chose this company. They are very caring, professional and co-operative. They have repeatedly done the right thing by me for which I am very grateful. My interactions with Al, Bryan, Bill, Andrew (and more) and especially Priscilla were very positive and satisfying. If I need solar again, I will choose NRG again. Highly recommend that you call this company for your solar needs. You won't regret it.
