This company was previously known as UmarketPro and has now changed its name to Protea Markets to try and escape its dreadful reputation. It is a complete and utter scam designed to make you trade all your money away so they can make outrageous commissions and then drop you like a hot potato. They ensnare you by making you trade too much, at which point you only belatedly discover how much the trading is costing you, and then the slightest turn in the market turns into a nightmare where you are forced to countertrade to survive and eventually you go straight down the drain and lose all your money. They are charming and clever and push you like crazy to invest money you cannot afford to lose. You would do far better with an old fashioned post office account where you would keep your capital and it would only devalue each year due to poor interest rates. Hi there!
Everytime I speak to one of the guys, they force you to buy forex then and there. They don't allow you to do your own research. If you don't buy what they tell you to, they become manipulative.
One if them even told me to stand up and do TWO SQUATS!!! How unprofessional was that! I was very upset afterwards and couldn't believe that he treated me like an idiot. I even heard one of his colleagues laughing in the background. I don't want to speak to them again. They think their clients are pathetic.

Do not trade with this entity,
Do not be duped into depositing any money
Do not be duped by promises of huge returns...

This is all a huge ruse to take money from you forever... you will never see your money again.

I have made a complaint previously about the huge losses and unfair practices by the so called "account success manager" and after three weeks I get an email asking for an extension in time!

They are hoping I will go away quietly and not make a fuss while in the mean time they continue to sucker new persons into their web of deceit and downright theft.

Not since I refused to deposit anymore money have I had a single phone call from the account manager to assist me with new trades... that stopped the moment I said no more.

No communication regarding how to save the account, how to trade back to a green balance... no nothing.

AGAIN... DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH PROTEA MARKETS OR DEPOSIT ANY MONEY INTO THE COFFERS OF MIXIRITE!!!!

I have been trying to withdraw my money for months but i am unable to withdraw what might be the problem

I managed my trades very conservatively, made great progress. Asked for withdrawls, took 7 working days once I had withdrawn my Capital and grew my account to over R 400 000, I asked for another withdrawl of R50 000, took over 8 days, on the 8th day the Trader, called me and said I should diversify, and told me to open trades with huge LOT positions, within 3 hours they downed my account and sent and email and said they cant pay my withdrawl as my account has gone into the negative. DONT TRUST PROTEA MARKETS big scam !!!

Please do not get involved with this company at all. There agents will sweet talk you into a lot of trading until you have lost all your money as they did to me. Then you will find it basically impossible to get them to contact you. After my last conversation with one of their agent in early Dec 2025 promising me all sorts of things he just disappeared after giving me his personal whatsapp nr but don't answer it. They deactivated my account which was very suspicious. Still don't have any answers. Now they suddenly are absent and after numerous emails not contacting me.

I invested a small amount with Protea Markets — a starting deposit of R4,700 in Sept 2025. Shortly afterwards, I was contacted by a “case manager” named Mike, who called me weekly for several weeks. He tried to teach me how to trade but constantly pressured me to invest much larger amounts (R50,000–R100,000) in order to “really make money”.

I repeatedly explained that I did not want to invest more and did not have the funds. Eventually, Mike stopped calling. Later, another person named Dave contacted me as my “new case manager” and again tried to pressure me to invest more money.

When I decided I wanted to withdraw my funds, everything changed.

Since 15 December, I have:

Sent multiple emails requesting a withdrawal

Made many phone calls

Submitted two withdrawal requests on their platform

Both withdrawal requests were cancelled after a few days without explanation.

I received only automated emails from Protea Markets claiming I used the “wrong withdrawal method” or that I must use the “same method as deposit”. I explained repeatedly that my original credit card had expired and I now have a new card, so I cannot use the same card. My emails were ignored and no human response was ever given.

At that time, my balance was R4,192 (I had only made one small trade and lost a few rand).

Today, when I logged in again, I discovered that Protea Markets had deducted R525 from my account as a “Dormant Fee”, without any warning or communication. My balance is now R3,666 — despite the fact that I have not been trading at all and have been actively trying to withdraw my money for months.

I am extremely upset and feel that this company is deliberately preventing withdrawals and slowly draining my funds with unjustified fees.

Even though this is a relatively small amount, it is still my money and this behaviour feels dishonest and abusive. I believe this company should be investigated and reported!

I'm so embarrassed I actually fell for Protea Markets like a total idiot and now I feel like a melted ice cream cone just dripping into a sticky mess on the pavement. Honestly I thought I was being smart with my savings but that site is straight trash and a total scam because they let you deposit so fast but the second you want your money back they ghost you and lock the account for no reason. They're literally just out here hunting for people to rob and I feel so stupid for trusting their fake charts and those annoying managers who lie through their teeth every single day. I cant believe I was so naive to think they were legit when they dont even have real licensing and everyone online says they just steal deposits and run. my bank account was looking so pathetic. Anyway I was venting to this guy and he mentioned 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐱-𝐋𝐩 and honestly they r the only reason I'm not crying right now. I reached out to them just to see if they could do anything and they actually sorted the whole money issue out so fast I barely had to do anything.

big scammers, once you deposit money trust me you will never withdraw they will make sure you lose it through their high fees and swaps of which they will never inform you that when you trade and hold a trade overnight you will be subjected to the swap and trading fees which are extremely high than other trading platforms. I lost 45k with this platform because they keep phoning you to invest more so you can trade with bigger asserts. I traded for 2 months and tried to withdraw several times some of invested money, but they will keep telling you to put in more with hope to increase your money because it is a scheme to steal your money and you can lose it all in a single night. My advice is RUN.

I had such a bad experience with Protea markets, my account manager was Hector , tried to make me comfortable till I deposited and kept giving bonuses to lure me in. He made promises of the returns I will get and got me to add in more money and at first it looked like I was making money and woke up one day all the money is gone to negative and my account is as good as closed and he did not even encourage me to stop loss because he knew that ot was their way of scamming and taking money from me and my money has been gone ever since . He encouraged me to put in all my money and suddenly when its all lost he also disappeared but when I still had money he was always available to give me a call.

It's all a scam and they decieve you till they get what they want

Started in early October. The first accounts manager she and I did not see eye to eye. She learned me good things about reading the direction of a trade and how to execute a trade. The normal things being new to trading. She became too pushy as I had the bare minimum in my account. She wanted me to put more money in. At that stage I could not. Opted and asked for a more considerate manager.
Was given one.
He spoke more calmer and learned me a few new things.
The problem I realised afterwards he did manage to get me to add more money. I could understand that starting the absolute minimum in an account there are so little bit to trade with.
Trades went fairly fine.
Then it hit me as I read in other stories here on trust pilot.
To cut long story short.
Now in the end knows that he trained me how to open a trade and that I can close when I see profit. As he instructed me when you close on a profit open it again in the same direction and with the same vol. That resulted in me getting stuck in 2 trades and gold was one of them for just over 2 weeks. Could not trade anything as margin hit like 130.
Other was UsdChf where he told me it is a special currency the Swiss franc. Stuck in that trade since 04 November.
He moved me by doing natural gas. Made profits from it.
The same happen as he again said when you make profit reopen again per his "teaching"
Still stuck in that too.
Now since then cannot trade anything.
What is worrying is that in November he started about a R300 000 investment in 4 indices and 2 shares.
Wanted me to even get the money from a bank.
Could not do it nor get it from the bank.
Now he guilt trips me in emails. He would tell me I have helped you to make profit and want you to have more and so on.
He focused so much on this R300 000 which he wanted me to get to invest that when my margin the money I had in trades was only +/- 29% of my total account trades like dried up. We had at the beginning certain goals I need to achieve. From end Oct until now trades went from let's say 20 to 11 and now at 6.
So I agree with others on trustpilot. Put a person in trades that actually does not make sense.
Withdrawal now of let's say 3% of my capital is for a week now going nowhere.
They have a license under Mixirite with the FSCA so they are registered to work according to FAIS and so on.
Very sad the way they turned out.
It later became clearer as I started to talk to other people that dies trading the swaps that collects is high and the cost to trade the minimum for gold is very high. Other platforms has much more lower entry cost. They forget that they are not the only trading platform and that ordinary people like me knows ordinary people that trades too.
Where protea market min for gold is a margin of R13 000 to R15 000 min lot volume 0.5 there are others with only 0 01 and needs like R720 to buy or sell gold. That is one example.
The last thing that worries me is a person cannot call the manager. I can only email. No response for 4 days then asking cs@proteamarkets where is my manager after day 1 of manager not responding the customer service also does not respond. Only 4 days passed and they informed manager on leave. In the meantime caught up in trades. Eventually 5 working days later got a response from manager. But still no assistance or answer about my week old withdrawal just wanting me to get money to invest. I think I have shared enough. For this time of the year it is not nice.

A simple word stop loss I just read the previous review and my experience is exactly the same. It could have saved my money. Why when teaching a newbie to trade do you not put stop losses on trades. Also there is a lot of bad press on other similar companies out there. Do your research!

Steven, I’m really disappointed. As a beginner in trading, I looked to you as my manager for guidance, and you suggested a 1‑standard‑lot GBP/USD position without ever mentioning a stop‑loss. Because of that, the trade moved against me and I’m now down about R35000 plus SWAPS of R9723 after several weeks of growing losses. NEVER trust these guys!! In the honeymoon period, you make money, and all is so good, but after a few weeks and with their guidance, all goes downstream. They don't tell you about the high swaps if your positions stay open overnight. Bad, Bad, Bad experience!!

I did make a deposito payment during August 2025 but decided one day later to ask my money back because i don’t want to be involved in any trading.I send them messages,e-mails and tried with many withdrawal to claim my money back without any success till now.In the meantime my deposit amount is worth less.

I find the agents very patient with me, as this is the first experience that I've had with trading. They explain well why and how they do things.

THE Company is helping me to know more about trading.they are so good and they give me more time ad I'm am still learning.

If i could give it a -10 rating, I would. As its depictable of rhe massive negatives and losses youll make.

They do request most people to put a review in their first few days (which most reviews are done), where you have a positive, trustworthy and make a few bucks experience to give them higher ratings.
My review is after over a month of trading, self-educating, reading on fees and platforms, and I hope more real people update their reviews.

The spreads and overnight charges are the worst in the market - super high and completely hidden until you lose money or learn trading. If you put more money, this compounds to even more - 50x higher than the top5 SA brokers. You will never make money for weeks on end. Makes sense to have enormous hidden fees for account manager time. *laughs*
Do you think people making thousands would be someone calling you so much and sales pitching putting more money in? The work to take your money to make them and their company profitable, not you.
They'll talk of people putting massive amount into trading and making massive amounts ... it will seem possible, but those people making the money is probably 1 in million, not the common man.

The worst part is withdrawals and cancelling your account to take your money out.
1) if you want to withdraw or quit trading, they'll push you to not withdraw and reclaim the money by trading. What happens is they put you in bad trades that will never close or become profitable (resulting in you losing all your money in losses and swap charges) and staying locked in to be unable to leave and close your account. The truth is they dont want you to ever take out most of your money. I lost +R30k in 1 day after i chose to withdraw it as I was manipulated into trying to recoup the money.
2) Then,on the withdrawal they did approve, it hasn't been paid into my account after 7 working days. There is absolutely no assistance and lies that theyve paid it and its your bank thats holding it up. After a third attempt of asking for a proof of payment, which my bank requested me to do, so that they could track the missing payment, they failed to provide one.

I do feel the R100k + I put in and lost is now bad debt. Whatever you have put in, its likely for 92% of people that you've lost it.

I am going to all post my experience on Twitter, my LinkedIn, and report it to FCSA as more people need to know what's going on.

Also, if they promise they'll teach you to trade, they won't. You'll just be told to trade and not know how to. Even in their higher account types, which I was upgraded to, they talk of a trading academy, own channel, better trading conditions, its all lies. There is also no AI trading, social trading, ability to save or see multiple graphs... its really all false advertising.

Stay away and you'll be more richer than any promises they make, which is simply, too good to be true, and get rich schemes.
