My car Battery failed so I contacted the RAC to replace it. The quote was easy to sort out and they were able to complete the job today 07/10/2026.
The Guy who came out was Amazing. He arrived on time talked me through what he needed to do. I must give him a 5-star rating and I will use them again if I need work doing on my car.

I had the most horrendous experience with RAC. It’s a long story but in short they let me down 3 times!! I took days off work 3 times waiting at a friends house for them to turn up and they simoly just didn’t and each time they did not call me I had to chase them. I had loss of earnings for 3. days and no car for weeks. Please do not use them. They are terrible

My vehicle was repaired, however I missed a whole day of work, had someone contacted me in the morning I could of planned my day better.

RAC breakdown at home referral. Adam-8318 came a change the starter motor on the car within half-hour it was done can't fault the service that was given.

The mechanic go extra mile to fix my car

I had a service done by RAC on my Porsche Macan 95B (2020), the mechanic was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, but there was an issue with the parts.

The mechanic seemed to know what he was doing (and knocked money off the bill) so I've given 5 stars, otherwise it would have been 4 stars.

It was primarily an oil service (oil, filter, sump plug gasket) plus other vehicle checks.

It was convenient to get the service done at home.

It should have included the air filter, but the mechanic was unable to source it (he knocked the price down from a full service to an interim service, saving me £190, but did the full service checks anyway).

A non-Porsche air filter is admittedly hard to find (Design911 do an OEM version for £28), but it's easy for me to fit when it arrives (4 T20 screws and a jubilee clip to undo).

I can live with saving £160 for 10 minutes work to change the air filter, but in fact it was changed a year ago and looks clean, so I might leave it until the next service.

The oil installed was Mobil Super 3000 Formula V instead of Mobil 1 ESP X2 (as recommended by Porsche) that I had expected.

Perhaps because the Mobil Super 3000 Formula V was cheaper or because the supplier didn't have Mobil 1 ESP X2.

I can live with it, as the Mobil Super 3000 Formula V is still Porsche C20 approved and should be fine until the next service.

The 'Oil Change Now' warning was still displayed on the dashboard after the mechanic left. I've notified him, so hopefully he'll return to clear it.

If not, I'll ask my local garage to do (at cost..) an 'Oil Reset' via an OBDII scanner (the cheap generic OBDII scanners can't do it).

I've taken the car out for a drive, it seems ok with no oil leaks, so that's a plus.

Would I use RAC again for my Porsche?

The local Porsche Centre would charge about £360 (including VAT) for labour.

They'd charge £102 for the air filter, oil filter, sump plug, etc. (using Genuine Porsche parts, but not needed on a 7 year old car IMHO).

They then (have the bare-faced cheek to) charge for the oil per 1 litre bottle (8 bottles at £24 + VAT each) = £230

Making a total of about £700.

The RAC labour charge is very competitive.

I would consider purchasing an interim service and then buy the Mobil 1 oil and OEM air filter myself.

The cost of the Design911 parts is £28.

The online cost of two 5 Litre containers of Mobil 1 ESP X2 0W20 is £132

Making a total of about £160 for parts, plus the RAC interim service (£300) = £460.

Since I'd be supplying the oil and air filter, I'd expect the interim service to be discounted (the mechanic might or might not).

However, even if it wasn't discounted, the RAC interim service would still work out 1/3 cheaper than an oil service at a Porsche OEM.

(I'd like to think RAC would remember to reset the vehicle's service light next time though...)

Would I use RAC again for other vehicles (e.g. VW Golf, Nissan Qashqai)?

Yes.

I think RAC are competitive on price compared to a local garage.

The oil and parts are likely to be less important (and easily available).

It's convenient to have the service done at home.

I'd still probably go for the interim service (if it's just an oil change service).
