Wonderful Service and Team

Danny, Keith and Nathan have been beyond wonderful in helping us move. We were the worst case scenario where completion fell through at 5.30 after a 6 hour wait but they were brilliant. Luckily they were able to keep our things on the van and re-delivered the next day. They packed and unpacked so fast and we had a great time in the short time we were together. They went above and beyond for us, my absolute angels ❤️ I will never forget what they done for us, it was an exceptional service with exceptional people. We love them and I cannot sing their praise enough ❤️

Talks down to women and are lazy

Moving company was booked on my behalf and the quote was taken over the phone based on my memory of what needed to be moved etc. There was quite a few more by the end of packing but everything was fine in that respect Nathan said whatever didn’t fit from my garage would be because of what I had at my flat. There were three guys and one sat in the van on his phone most of the time. They at one point were throwing items out a second floor window down to the truck. They attended my garage in a different location without me to collect only what was listed in the original quote which included an American size fridge freezer. I said if anything please leave the wooden dresser and bring the small tumble dryer instead. They ignored that request. When they arrived at my new address they didn’t put drop cloths or mats down on my brand new white carpet and just started stacking boxes at that point I was on the phone discussing their decision to not move my fridge into the flat, because they took it upon themselves to put my fridge in the shed and tried to measure my doorway with a piece of cloth strap and decided it wouldn’t fit through the door and point blank refused to entertain the idea of trying. They just popped all boxes in the living room even though they were labelled between all rooms. And I had to move a dresser myself as it was put where the tv hookups were. They were in a rush the entire time. I then asked a new neighbour to move my fridge in and this didn’t happen until the next day I have two small children and lost £80 worth of freezer food due to their laziness. The fridge 100% fit up my stairs without doors or the railing needing to be removed. I know this because I measured all doorways properly and it was a 5 minute job to get it up the stairs To measure with a piece of string and talk down to me was disgusting, taking advantage of a young vulnerable blonde woman. If they had attempted to move it and then it didn’t fit I would’ve understood but it was a job booked that they clearly didn’t want. You get what you pay for.

I witnessed your staff member toss pillows out the window I haven’t made it up and I wasn’t asked if this was okay.
Boxes were labelled and ones that said kitchen I had to stop staff from putting in the living room those went into the living room anyway. Loose items were in bags for life but nothing I was concerned about I explained in my original review that wasn’t the issue the space wasn’t measured properly by your staff and you didn’t even attempt to move the fridge to my front door you refused to even attempt to move it if you had measured properly and made the attempt to move it up the stairs as the neighbours kindly offered to do you would’ve moved it into my kitchen no problem and not lost me £80 in food my mother didn’t attend until the very end and it’s not relevant who booked the move or whether anybody else was there or not my mother measured it as well and we both agreed the fridge would fit which it did without your help. I provided three quotes to those who booked your company yours was the lowest and as I said you get what you pay for you didn’t lay anything down to cover the carpets didn’t offer to where as the other company I used in April did. I can see from other reviews I’m not the only customer with a poor experience. I already admitted there ended up being more on the inventory list than what was communicated over the phone we discussed this and all was okay. My review still stands and is 90% centred around your lack of respect for the fact that the fridge would fit and was a necessity. you didn’t respect myself as the customer because of who booked you, you acted with an unconscious bias towards me based on the type of customer I was and I will not be recommending women such as myself use you in future.

Hello Amber. Your booking was made by the local council whom we work with regularly. We were provided an inventory list that upon arrival was significantly more than stated.
We agreed to move all the items not included on the booking for you including additional items of large furniture.
We also agreed to collect items from a garage which when we arrived we had to call you as they were not ready to be transported and you were not in attendance (terms and conditions stated you should be) and many items were buried at the back of a full garage.

We refute the claim that items were "thrown out of a 2nd floor window", this is a ridiculous accusation to make and we do not understand how or why you would think this!

At your new property we asked where you would like boxes and you stated to place them all in the same room so that you could sort them out, as there were quite a few bags of loose items too and the property was quite small.

Bespoke covers were used for the items provided on the original inventory list, the covers are loaded before arrival and unfortunately when additional items are added we do not have the covers onboard so we use transit covers instead. These covers are standard in the removals industry.

In regards to your fridge freezer we explained that it wouldn't fit after measuring, we also explained that it would fit should you remove the hand rail and door at the top of your very narrow staircase, which you stated you didn't know if you were allowed to do (we assume because of who owned the property.)
We measured this with an "open reel tape measure not a piece of cloth", and explained to both yourself and your mum who was also in attendance.

YOU stated that you would like us to put the fridge freezer in your shed (we didnt even know you had a shed as it was a seperate building to the property.) As such we acted on your instruction.
As per terms and conditions all fridge freezers should be empty upon arrival and unfortunately this is one of the reasons this is stated.

Your move was completed timely, not rushed and at no stage did you state you had any problems with the service before posting this review.

We work with the local councils regularly and haven't had any negative feedback either which, based on this type of feedback I'm sure we would.

To close, we are sorry you were unhappy with the booking, unfortunately with better planning I'm confident that this could have been prevented, however we wish you every happiness in your new home.

Has put me off using removal services

Our moving day was an extremely wet day. The guys arrived and just started coming into the house - no mats or protective equipment placed anywhere so the floors and carpets were filthy was was just awful for our poor buyer. The website it states that bespoke furniture covers would be used but I did not see one used and so Our mattresses (including the kids cot bed mattress) got dirty, and our furniture is scuffed.
The guys moved a wardrobe out of the bedroom and left huge deep gauges in the hardwood floor from the back of the room to the door. (My husband later moved this wardrobe by himself very easily by taking the doors off. If they hadn’t have been in such a rush to pack the vans up and get their McDonalds, the guys might have thought to do this). When I spoke with Nathan about this, he was rude and just said that basically we should have taken out the upgraded package. Nathan will speak to you as though he has known you for years when before he makes a sale but was ignorant and petulant as soon as I needed to make a complaint. It did not make me want to speak with him again to report further complaints that we only noticed once we had settled into the new house.
Lastly, we paid for assembly of our bed. The guy who did it rang all of the screws to assemble it and now the bed will not come apart. We are now in the process of getting a new bed and wished to sell our old one but it now looks like we won’t be able to do this as the damage is too great. My husband has taken the bed apart himself and put it back together 3 times with no such damage.
We decided on a removal company with the assembly of furniture as we have 2 small children and thought this would be easier than trying to do it ourselves. However I regret our decision to go with simply moved and as it turns out, the company does not seem to take any care in the handling of anyone’s possessions.
I would steer clear at all costs.

Contacted Nathan initially who was really helpful arranging a time to come out and provide us with a quote.

Quote was good value and I was told all about the company and the services they offer.

We chose to have a packing service which was completed in a very professional manner and everything was wrapped and packed very well.

They rebuilt all our beds and the day was very enjoyable.

They made a stressful event so much worse

Moved on 22nd April. Nathan did not organise any kind of site check. I sent a list of everything I was taking and I included measurements although they weren’t asked for. I had approx 6 more than the 30 boxes I had said, but most of my boxes were half the size of the ones sent by my husbands firm. On that basis, I was well within that remit too. Long story short, one van was sent, which wasn’t big enough to take all my things and Nathan wanted to charge me £350 for the van to come back and collect the rest. Fortunately, my husband was there and managed to hire a van locally to take the rest of my things.
Also, I had asked for 4 wardrobe boxes which the guys weren’t made aware of and they hadn’t been told they were to dismantle a bed and reassemble it so didn’t have the tools and had to go and buy some!
After complaining later, Nathan refunded the cost of the van and fuel “as a good will gesture”!
Moving is stressful enough but this firm made it so much worse. If this was a review about the two guys who actually did the donkey work, it would have 5 stars. They were lovely and a bit embarrassed. They were surprised themselves that only one van was sent. They said they hardly ever do one van moves.
I am told Nathan’s Dad is a Solicitor. Thought it worth mentioning, in case you are also let down by him and want to complain.

"I forgot to mention a carpet cleaner (like an upright hoover), a microwave - thought husband was taking it, and a boxed Christmas tree - small - about 4ft I think)"
These items would not have warranted needing another van and I could have left them with a neighbour. When mentioning the extra charge, I had not imagined for a second these items would warrant another van at a cost of £350.
No explanation is given for the wardrobe fiasco or the bed. I am not giving you a bad review because you are a small business. I am giving you a bad review because I got bad service.
Your staff, however, are a credit to you.

Thank you for your review left 4 months after your move was completed...

For clarity we have the email from yourself on file dated, 21st of April 2022. (Your move was booked for the 22nd of April 2022) This email from yourself states that YOU had forgotten multiple items from your initial inventory list provided to us.
Stating and we quote "If this incurs an extra charge then that is fine. Just as long as you can fit it in."
We replied to the email saying that as long as they fit on the vehicle there would be no extra charge, (even though this would increase the load and unload time for the move.)

(We clearly state in our T&C's that it is the customers responsibility to provide an accurate inventory, we offer a video quotation option and the ability to upload photos in order to make it as simple as possible, which you choose not to do.)
We utilise professional removal software to calculate the size of each move. Based on the initial inventory supplied by you, your move was allocated a luton vehicle with adequate volume to ensure your possessions were transported safely and professionally.

Due to the extremely late notice of your email informing us of the change to your inventory it was impossible for us to provide an additional vehicle as we were fully booked.

As a gesture of goodwill we then refunded the cost of the van hire and the fuel cost to you.

You have now felt it necessary to leave a family business a 1 star review 4 months after your move had taken place...
We are not sure what else you would have liked us to do for you based on the above information and would like to direct anyone reading this reply to the large volume of reviews across the internet to make up their own minds.

We hope you are happy in your new home and we wish you all the best for the future anyway.

Thanks again for taking time to provide your feedback.
Having spoken to my removals manager today who remembers your booking well, he has stated that unfortunately the items you had forgotten to mention along with the additional boxes you added would have put the vehicle we allocated based on your inital enquiry overweight.

Again with better notice from yourself this could have been avoided (We do not deem less than 24hrs as adequate time to provide this information.)

You also may not be aware however that transporting items in an overweight vehicle is not only illegal, it also carries a large fine for both the driver personally and the company too.
To add to this it is also highly dangerous and in the event of an accident all insurance is void and in certain circumstances can carry a prison sentence for both the driver and the company owner.

We do not transport goods illegally whether its just an additional 5 items or 50 items.
This is why an additional vehicle was required.
(Which again, we refunded the cost of for you!)

We are disappointed that you were unhappy with the scenario you found yourself in, however we will not run our company illegally.

Again we believe that anyone reading this reply will appreciate the facts of the situation rather than what you percieve to be unprofessional. As this was actually us being as professional as we can be and as we are legally required to be.

Should you not have known the law regarding the above we hope this provides you with clarity on this situation.

We now consider this matter dealt with.

Excellent

Nathan fit us in at very short notice after we were let down by another local company.

Dan Sr and Jr, Luke and Kieran arrived on time and were efficient, friendly and helpful. We had some heavy furniture to move out of a first story flat and they were careful and professional, before transporting and unloading everything to an already occupied home. All in all, it took them just over three hours from arrival to leaving, which is much quicker than we could have hoped.

We will be moving again very soon and will certainly be using Simply Move again. Just superb.

The best choice

Nathan and team arrived punctually at 7.45am, were very friendly and helpful from the word go and removed all my stuff speedily and professionally.
We left Bury St Edmunds at 9 am, drove to Cambridge and they finished my move in in Cambridge and left, having most helpfully assembled a few large items for me about, 11.15 am. A potentially stressful day turned out to be a very enjoyable one thanks to Nathan and team, at a very competitive price- highly recommended.
