Used for switching energy supplier…

Used for switching energy supplier only, not installation or supply of equipment.
Having been a member for a while & monitoring their competitiveness, I decided to get a quote.
No obligation or sales pressure, I found their British Gas quote much better than my current Octopus offer.
Having been with them 6 months now with no issues, I will definitely be using them from now on & have no qualms recommending them to friends and family.
A big well done from me 👏

Very good value and a simple process

It was interesting to hear people's mixed reaction to Switch Together Energy scheme. We went to them on the basis of two of our neighbours had used the scheme. Ultimately it depends on who is the successful tenderer on the quality of the installation. You can back out.

We found the communications good, liaising with them over the system we have was straight forward and the installation was efficient. Over all we were very pleased with the price and the service to date.

There was a delay in our installation because UKPN took time to approve our installation which is larger than the basic domestic installation. But a revised date was quickly found and the installation took no time at all. The only other issue we had was that our hidden internet cable got damaged, but that was easily fixed.

We are now in the post installation period and awaiting our handover documents before we can set up a contract with our energy supplier to feedback in.

So far we have been very pleased and astonished how our utility costs are falling.

We have already recommended the scheme to a number of friends, neighbours and colleagues.

Installers damaged my roof and altered my email to say I was happy when I wasn’t.

I had solar panels installed in Melksham Wiltshire when the scheme was know as Solar Together Wiltshire. My experience is the installers conduct has been aweful. They installed incorrectly and damaged my roof by ripping the membrane and leaving it as a visual eyesore. I received an email response from the CEO of the installer co. where my written communication had been altered to suggest I was happy with the repair in the same email where I was accepting a previous offer by a co director to return and make things right. They failed to provide an adequate Subject Access Request. To date have not reported back on altering my comms and have since used this altered email to instruct debt collectors when the damage to my roof is still existing.
In public interest; if you have solar panels installed take photos of the whole of the inside of your entire attic. And check promptly after the install and hold the installers to account if there’s damage. Consumer rights act supports that the job should be done right and damage should be rectified to a good standard.
Unfortunately these cheaper installs can come with a hidden price which is often corners cut on installs.

Misleading estimate and still trying to get my deposit refunded

I used Switch Together for a solar and battery recommendation and paid a £150 acceptance deposit, which was supposed to come off the final installer bill.

The original recommendation gave the impression that the system would cost around £8,800. However, after the site survey, the final quote from the installer, Infinity Renewables, came back significantly higher at over £10,000.

Several items which appeared to be included, or were not clearly shown as additional costs, were then added to the final quote.

There was also a suitability issue with the system recommended. The proposed setup included 12 panels and 24kWh of battery storage, but with a relatively low 3.7kW inverter. In my view, that was not properly matched to the size of the system and would have limited how effectively the battery and solar setup could be used. A more suitable inverter would have involved further additional cost.

I am not saying this was intentional, but the original estimate was misleading. It did not give a realistic picture of the likely final cost or the suitability of the proposed system.

I contacted Infinity Renewables to cancel but received no reply for around a week. Switch Together then told me I needed to wait for Infinity to process the cancellation before the £150 deposit could be released. I am still trying to get confirmation that the refund will actually be processed.

Overall, I found the process disappointing. The idea of a group-buying scheme sounds good, but in my case the final quote was much higher than expected, the system was not ideal, and getting the deposit refunded has been more difficult than it should be.

I have since used a local installer who is supplying higher-output panels, a larger inverter, handling the DNO correspondence, and doing the work for around £1,000 less.

We aim to provide an accurate estimate for your solar PV and battery storage system based on the information supplied during registration.

However, as every property and roof is different, there are limits to the level of detail we can gather at this stage. As a result, it is not always possible to provide an exact installation price before a survey has been completed.

In some cases, the survey may identify additional work or materials that are required to complete the installation. Should this happen, the installer will discuss any recommendations with you and provide you with a revised quotation with details of any associated costs before proceeding.

We appreciate that unexpected costs can be frustrating. Rest assured, if a customer is not happy with any additional charges, they can cancel their participation.

Depending on the cancellation reason, i.e. where the additional work is essential for the installation to go ahead, a customer may also be eligible for a full refund of their deposit.

We also understand your concerns regarding the size of the inverter in relation to the expected output of your solar panels and battery storage.

One reason that the inverter is smaller than the maximum output of your panels is to ensure the system is MCS compliant.

For a system to be MCS compliant, the size of the inverter must be smaller than the maximum output of the system. Systems must be MCS compliant in order to be able to obtain an export tariff or a smart export guarantee.

In addition, Switch Together obtains its discounts by offering standardised systems to many people, ensuring bulk buying discounts can be obtained.

The inverter is therefore standardised to ensure the best possible value for participants. That does not mean that you cannot request a different inverter than what is offered in the personal recommendation, but this would indeed have its bespoke price.

That said, we apologise if this was not made as clear as it could have been an we appreciate you bringing your concerns to our attention. Thank you.

Beware property damage

We used Switch Together as thought this ensured reliability of installer - unfortunately first our installer sent just one person to carry and install heavy panels on the roof and and then our installer damaged our concrete roof gutter - it fell off - and initially neither the company nor Switch together wanted to know. Our installer has now mended the gutter.

I don't understand what 'service' Switch Together is actually offering? You register and then nothing - no contact, no quotes, no follow up for weeks and weeks. Assume this company is no longer trading?

For your information, Switch Together is a unique group buying scheme for solar PV systems and battery storage. The group buying scheme consists of five subsequent phases:

1. Register for free and without obligation
When you register online for solar panels, you will be asked questions about your house, roof, and your electricity usage. If you are registering for battery storage only, you will be asked about your current solar PV system and electricity usage.

If you don’t know the exact figures for your roof size or electricity usage, we can help you estimate with industry or local averages, and you can enter more accurate information when you have it.

Kindly note that if there is no active scheme in your area, it is still possible to pre-register, but you would not proceed to the subsequent parts of the process. Perhaps when you registered with us, there was no active scheme in your area, and therefore you did not hear more from us?

2. Auction
During an active scheme, we would organise an auction. This is a reverse auction, meaning the lowest bid wins. The winning bid sets the price for all solar PV systems and battery systems. All installers are pre-vetted and must comply with criteria to guarantee the quality of the offer.

3. Personal recommendation
After the auction, you will receive a personal recommendation which will include information about the winning installer and your complete package, costs and savings. This information is for you to consider. If you have more questions, you can always contact our helpdesk.

4. You decide
After you have received your personal recommendation, you can decide whether you want to accept it or not. We will send each customer a link to an online webinar where they will be introduced to their prospective installer.

During the webinar, we will also talk you through how the Switch Together scheme works in more detail. To accept the personal recommendation, you will be asked to pay a deposit of £150. This deposit is conditionally refundable. The terms can be found in your personal recommendation.

5. Installation
After receiving your deposit payment, your details will be transferred to the installer. If you have chosen to install a solar PV system, the installer will schedule a survey with you.

For a battery storage installation, usually a remote survey is enough to plan the installation. The installer will also schedule an installation date with you. Once the installation is complete, you will then receive the invoice, minus the deposit. This final invoice has to be paid in full after the installation.

I received an email from Switch Together to say that they had "Got My Question" which was a surprise because I had not asked them a question, in other words it was just another marketing email that tries to hook you in my pretending that you initiated the exchange. So I just clicked on the unsubscribe link and hoped that this company wouldn't darken my inbox again. I then got an email from them to apologise for the marketing email and to assure me that I would be off their mailing list with 48 hours - yet more detritus in the inbox but OK I thought.

Then I get yet another email from the blighters asking me to rate their support experience !!!

When will companies understand that when we 'unsubscribe' we just want them to GO AWAY!

No reason to have a heat pump

Very good service and survey of our home for the possible installation of a heat pump.
However (not the fault of 'Switch Together'), despite the Government giving back £7,500 of my and your taxes as a 'grant' for this supposedly 'cheaper and more efficient' means of heating, the installation would have cost us an extra £3,800, and our annual heating bill would (from their projections) have increased by a very, very significant amount.
So, there was absolutely no point in have a heat pump fitted!

As part of the government boiler…

As part of the government boiler upgrade initiative we had Switch Together quote & subsequently carry out the surveys and installation of our air source heat pump system, it all went smoothly withour=t any problems. Luke & Will (mainly Luke) installed the system which entailed an air source heat pump, plus a hot water cylinder & immersion heater, they also changed 3 of our radiators as they weren't large enough. The fitting of the hot water cylinder was very tricky as it only just fitted in our airing cupboard (I really don't know how they managed to get it in) but they made an excellent job of it, the masses of pipework necessary for the job was extremely neat, so much so it was a shame to have to have it lagged! Luke was a fount of knowledge and expertise about his job and could answer any questions we had. Once the app was downloaded to my phone he went over the details and made it easy to follow. We already had solar panels but would thoroughly recommend Switch Together and in particular Luke to install such a system system.

The scheme is good value but the…

The scheme is good value but the communication is poor. I signed up for a quote in September, I'm given a message saying they will be selecting a supplier in the next couple of weeks. I check back after two weeks, still no update. Eventually, I received a quote in late November, as I didn't know that it was coming I nearly missed it and the deadline for accepting.

After paying the deposit, nobody has reached out to arrange a date for a site inspection.
