Rushed, overcharge, end result is variable
The boss responded promptly to messages and came to quote for the installation of a new boiler, pipework, removal of old radiators and installation of new ones. The boss and his team turned up on time on the day, were polite and friendly, but left early (2.30pm) and said they needed to come back, day after day. They finished the boiler and hive system installation promptly and professionally, and the team members were congenial.
However, the pipe work in the bedroom where they were supposed to install a new radiator was awful. They asked me to accept the work as it was (done in a rush, with pipes sticking out of the wall at odd angles and with massive gaps between the pipe and the walls). I didn’t know there was any other option and thought this was the only way I could get a radiator in to my bedroom because the boss said that was how it had to be. I felt pressured to accept the work as the boss was in a hurry to get to another job and leave. He said he’d come back another day and finish the remaining work. The next day another plumber from another company came to do a different job, saw the pipe work in the bedroom and told me it was absolutely awful. A few days after that, a member of thePlumbers.org came to finish the work downstairs and also told me that the pipe work shouldn’t look like that, it was amateur.
The boss kept saying I had accepted the work as it was, but would re-do it for extra, significant charge. They fixed the piping after much arguing, and eventually finished the other work.
I’m appalled I was ever asked by the boss to accept such cowboy pipe work. Anyone with professional pride and respect would never have asked a customer to accept such shoddy work, or charged for it to be fixed. Shameful.
I eventually ended up paying way over the amount quoted for all the work (paying almost £20k) and will never use them again.
They charge way over their quotes, they pop in for a few hours then leave early, saying they have other jobs to do, and they don’t take their time to do the jobs properly, everything is frantic and rushed.
They take work on that they don’t have time to do properly and pretend they’re doing you a favour by doing your job. Why would they do me a favour?? The boss just takes on jobs to get cash and doesn’t think about giving his team the time each job requires. They are like cats; you think they are yours but they’re actually going to every house on the block!
No doubt they will post their own version of events here, but this is a factual account that I hope is helpful for others.
After having read the reply from the Plumbers.org to my review, I’m really shocked. Their version is untrue and presumptuous. I didn’t take advice from anyone other than them….the boss specifically….and they rushed the job to get it done quickly, not to do me a favour. I was a first time client, not a repeat client they owed favours to. If they didn’t have time to do the job properly, they shouldn’t have taken it on. I had many workmen in the house for weeks after they left, so work was ongoing. I don’t understand how rushing a job can be described as a positive thing.
I did provide lunch for all the tradespeople in my house, not just the plumbers and definitely not because they had finished and done a great job. I take care of my tradespeople, and had electricians, painter decorators, builders and gardeners in the house as well as the plumbers. I provided lunch because I believe in treating people nicely, not because they had finished the work. Far from it. I wish that consideration and respect had been mutual instead of being used against me now.
If you receive feedback, as a company, it’s not dignified to try and deny and reject it. It’s a pattern in their replies to feedback; if they don’t agree they don’t apologise or take it on board for next time, they simply say it’s untrue. It’s a shame, as some of their work actually was good, and they were congenial and professional when they came. The part that was done really badly could have been rectified easily; an apology and a quick fix was all that was needed. Instead, I had to argue with them to come and fix it, then argue for three months for them to take the extra hours they charged for fixing it, off the invoice. I had paid all other invoices on time, totalling approx £15k. The one I argued for three months was the one directly related to the bad work. Again, it’s a shame as my review would have been more positive had things been better handled.
