Flawless High Court enforcement and 100% recovery
I instructed The Sheriffs Office to enforce a default County Court Judgment against a large organisation that had ignored every letter and the judgment itself. The online instruction was straightforward, and the transfer up to the High Court and issue of the writ were handled quickly and professionally.
The Notice of Enforcement broke the deadlock where months of correspondence had failed, and the judgment debt was paid. Their agent, Mr Sharma, then attended the debtor's head office, and the remaining costs and interest were paid the same day.
Their accounts team calculated the interest to the exact day of payment and remitted the High Court costs, the interest and my upfront fees in full. When I queried the fee refund, it was dealt with promptly. Communication was clear and well documented throughout.
Every penny owed was recovered. Highly recommended.
Extremely poor service, avoidable delays and inadequate enforcement
I instructed The Sheriffs Office on 30th June 2026 to enforce a court judgment against a limited company, paying arpund £175 upfront. Almost four months later, I have recovered absolutely nothing, and they are now proposing to close my case following just three enforcement attendances.
Unfortunately, the problems began almost immediately.
Their instruction form requested an enforcement address and allowed me to provide additional addresses, which I did. However, the form did not explain that the nominated enforcement address would also be used for the Writ application. Consequently, the application was rejected because the address did not match the original judgment, resulting in delays.
To add insult to injury, The Sheriffs Office then sought an additional court fee from me following a fee increase during the delay. When I complained, they rejected my complaint and placed responsibility on me, despite the ambiguity in their own instructions.
I appealed, and their Director of Client Care subsequently acknowledged that the form had failed to explain how the address would be used, partially upholding my appeal. Astonishingly, they still refused to reimburse the additional fee, maintaining that they could not establish that their failing had caused the additional cost.
The amount involved was only £2, but the principle is considerably more important.
The actual enforcement process has been equally disappointing.
From the outset, I provided five addresses associated with the debtor, two specific vehicle registration numbers, details of at least three branded vehicles regularly appearing on the company's social media, and evidence of ongoing trading activity.
Despite this, the enforcement reports I received documented just two unsuccessful visits to the same residential address. Their latest correspondence refers to a third attendance without explaining when or where it took place.
What I find particularly unacceptable is the extraordinarily limited information provided in their proposed closure notice. After almost four months, their explanation effectively amounts to two sentences stating that three attendances have taken place, no assets were identified and there is little further they can do.
There is no meaningful account of the investigations undertaken, no explanation of what happened to the additional addresses supplied, and no indication that even basic vehicle enquiries have been carried out against the registration numbers I provided. I have seen other customer reviews referring to vehicle checks being undertaken, yet I have received no evidence of comparable enquiries in my case.
I appreciate that not every lead will necessarily result in enforcement action, but surely a professional enforcement company should be able to explain what it has investigated and why further action is not considered worthwhile before proposing to close a creditor's case.
Communication has also been consistently poor, with prolonged periods without updates and repeated chasing required on my part.
I raised a further formal complaint about the adequacy of enforcement. Their Director of Client Care initially confirmed that these concerns would be investigated alongside my appeal in a single comprehensive response. However, his subsequent determination excluded those concerns entirely, stating that they would instead be dealt with separately. That complaint remains unresolved, yet they are already proposing to close my enforcement case.
I fully appreciate that enforcement cannot guarantee recovery. My complaint is not simply that the debtor has failed to pay. It is the avoidable delays, unclear instructions, poor communication, inconsistent complaint handling and apparent lack of transparency and thoroughness in the enforcement process.
I paid The Sheriffs Office to pursue a court judgment on my behalf. Instead, I have spent almost four months chasing them for information, challenging their handling of my instructions and trying to establish whether the leads I supplied have been properly investigated.
I am now facing the prospect of losing further money simply for having attempted to enforce a judgment that was awarded in my favour.
An incredibly disappointing experience. Based on the service I have received, I cannot recommend The Sheriffs Office.

Preventable Failed Enforcement Visit and Poor Case Handling
I instructed The Sheriffs Office to enforce a High Court Writ of Control and have been extremely disappointed by the service received.
Their website states that once the Notice of Enforcement period has expired without payment, an Enforcement Agent will usually attend within a few days. However, we were subsequently advised that an agent may have up to 30 days from the matter progressing to Enforcement Stage 1. This creates a very different expectation from the one presented publicly.
We provided clear, specific information to improve the prospects of successful enforcement, including the most effective times to attend and other relevant details. This information was recorded on the file.
However, there appears to be a serious communication gap between office staff and the enforcement agents carrying out attendances. Despite the information provided, the first attendance did not make effective use of it and was unsuccessful.
The most frustrating aspect is that this unsuccessful attendance appears to have been entirely preventable had the information already provided been properly communicated and acted upon.
For a professional enforcement service, this raises serious concerns about communication, coordination and the effectiveness of the enforcement process.

Don't employee these HCEO,s
instructed The Sheriffs Office to enforce a High Court Writ to recover a judgment debt. Over a three-month period, there was a complete failure to execute the writ, resulting in systemic inaction and zero money recovered. I have had to lodge a formal regulatory complaint with the High Court Enforcement Officers Association regarding their handling of this matter. Unacceptable service for such a serious process. Would never use again or recommend. I wish I had read the reviews beforehand because I would have approached a proper Enforcement Agency. The fact that they didn't even check all assets of the debtor is laughable, no attempts made to find out what was in the house, allowed the debtor to pack up and move address. Takes days to get a reply from them but put a genuine truthful review on here and they respond straight away .....absolute shambles of an agency!!

Collected our money, then didn't pay it over
Case ref: TSO90353
We instructed The Sheriffs Office to enforce a successful judgment. They recovered the sum from the debtor but have never remitted it to us.
We requested payment by bank transfer when instructing them and gave our account details on their own instruction form. They sent a cheque in the post instead. It never arrived, and they have confirmed with their bank that it was never presented in our account. Despite that, the funds still have not been transferred to us and we remain out of pocket months later.
Edit 15/09/26 after reply.
The fraud investigation is between them and their bank — nothing to do with us. They collected our money, chose to post a cheque (which they've admitted isn't how they normally pay), and it never arrived. We're still owed it, and we still just want the bank transfer we asked for when we instructed them.

Six attendances, zero progress and deeply disappointing communication
My experience with The Sheriffs Office has been deeply disappointing.
I obtained a valid judgment and instructed TSO to enforce it. I repeatedly supplied information about the debtor’s trading location, activities and apparent assets, including vehicles seen at or connected with the premises. Despite six attendances, no recovery was made.
TSO eventually confirmed that DVLA checks had been completed on seven vehicles and that none was registered to the debtor company. However, this information only emerged after persistent questioning. I received no sufficiently detailed account of what happened during each attendance, who was spoken to, what enquiries were made, whether the debtor was actively trading, or what other goods were inspected.
Their approach felt toothless, spineless and entirely lacklustre. When clear evidence and potential opportunities were presented, there appeared to be little urgency or determination to pursue them. Communication was reactive, vague and dismissive rather than proactive or solution focused.
After many months, considerable effort and repeated emails, the final recommendation was effectively to seek legal advice. That is wholly inadequate after six enforcement attendances and provides no meaningful explanation of what practical options remain.
I understand that enforcement cannot guarantee recovery. My complaint is about the apparent lack of urgency, transparency, detailed reporting and resolve. I paid for professional enforcement but was left feeling that I had to investigate the debtor, identify potential assets and continually chase TSO myself.
The service appeared unwilling to pursue anything beyond the most basic enquiries. Based on my experience, TSO proved ineffective when meaningful enforcement was required, and I cannot recommend them.

Incompetent case management, ignored evidence, and automated template replies (Ref: TSO90075)
I am extremely disappointed with the level of service and sheer lack of enforcement action on case reference TSO90075 / 564MC979.
As the creditor, I have provided overwhelming, verified intelligence - including public Checkatrade reviews with photographic proof showing the debtor actively working on roofs, along with evidence showing beneficial ownership of a vehicle parked on his driveway. Despite their own field agent taking photos of bank statements inside the vehicle, the agency has taken zero action to levy or clamp it.
Instead of investigating active income or enforcing the Writ, the office repeatedly generates automated PDFs that simply copy-paste my own emails back to me as "case updates."
In their latest update (14/08/26), the agent notes that the debtor claims he "cannot afford more" and is being helped by his brother, and the file is simply being returned to the office. The office accepts ad-hoc £400 payments from a third party without my agreement, fails to explain the terms, and provides no clear accounting when sending remittance to the client.
I require an Authorised High Court Enforcement Officer or Senior Operations Manager to immediately review file TSO90075, explain why verified trading evidence is being ignored, and outline actual enforcement action rather than automated template brush-offs.
Update (17/08/26):
In their response dated 17/08/26, their office admitted to accepting informal £400 ad-hoc payments without entering into a binding Controlled Goods Agreement, leaving the creditor with zero security. The agent took the debtor's word that he "cannot afford more" without confronting him with the Checkatrade photographic proof of active trading.
To make matters worse, their office stated in writing that if their handling is not accepted, they will "advise the Debtor to stop making payments." For a High Court Enforcement Officer to threaten to advise a judgment debtor to cease paying an active Writ is an appalling breach of professional standards.
Update (28/08/26):
The operational dodge continues. In response to direct enforcement instructions sent on 20/08/26 (which their own system notes as "Scanned 20/08/26" despite trying to log it as received on 25/08/26) demanding to know if they intend to formalise the payment plan via a Controlled Goods Agreement or leave the debt unsecured, Case Management simply sent a PDF containing a transcript of my email followed by a copy of a letter from their Complaints department.
Case Management is actively hiding behind an ongoing formal complaint investigation to evade their daily operational duties on an active Writ. Instead of confirming whether they will legally secure the debt, they are attempting to treat a complaint acknowledgment as a substitute for actual case management. High Court enforcement should not require chasing an agency twice just to get them to acknowledge active instructions, let alone execute them.
Update (04/09/26):
Case Management has now formally admitted in writing on the case log that no Controlled Goods Agreement (CGA) was taken, leaving over £10,000 in judgment debt completely unsecured under an informal payment plan. Their justification? That the agent was "unable to sight any assets."
This comes despite the agent physically photographing business paperwork inside a vehicle parked on the debtor's driveway, and despite clear photographic evidence of active roof-trading provided directly to the office. Rather than taking control of the vehicle on prima facie evidence (which would have forced the debtor to formally prove third-party ownership or exemption under CPR Part 85) the agency simply accepted the debtor's unverified word and set up an unsecured arrangement with zero legal protection for the creditor.

Exactly what I needed
Recovered money in full and kept me updated with e-mail reports every time there was even the smallest update.
I've just glanced at and don't understand the poor reviews. I just left them alone to do their jobs and I didn't need to communicate with them.
Then the money hit my bank very quickly after being recovered.
Very happy with the result. Hope I don't have to use them again, but if I did - I know I would be in good hands.

Hassle free debt collection. Sheriffs Office collected the debt which I knew would be difficult if not impossible to do myself due to the nature of the debtor. I just handed it over to the Sheriffs and left them to get on with it which they did successfully.

Finally spoke to their agent in the area who had been employed only a week before, he was happy to do as asked but was stopped from doing this by the office.
Then advised the case was transferred in house for collection calls….. do you not think we have done this ourselves??????

False fraud letter.
I received a letter from the The Sheriffs Office dated 4 days ago and asking me to pay £25.000+ within 11 days and charging me additional £4 a day until whole amount is being paid (within 11 days).
I do not know anything about the lady that is mentioned in their letter and that I owe her £25.000+????.
I never had any contact/communication before receiving the letter, I never borrowed any money from the lady mentioned in the letter.
I could provide a photo of that letter but I will not as you cannot provide an image here but I would simply not provide, as in the letter Peterborough County Court was mentioned and there were already 2 emails sent to the Peterborough County Court reporting the letter I received (sent by my oldest brother).
Those bailiffs they are threatening me with, can come and enjoy a coffee time, as 4 years ago I almost lost my life in a car accident and have been recovering from the body injuries. The Sheriffs Office and High Court Enforcement Group is the same gang threatening and offending innocent people by forcing their unlawful actions.
I will not pay a penny as I do not owe anyone any money and it is going to be reported to the court maybe asking to receive the same amount of money as they are forcing me to pay - £25.000+! How could I lend £25.000 a year after almost dying in a car accident, where I was in a coma for 2 weeks, spend 2 months at a hospital mainly in bed, losing a work placement, barely walking, talking, unable to have a proper eyes vision due to one of the eye damages and unable doing any other normal things.
We have just checked my CCJs (paying £6) and nothing was found on my name. I also do not own anything as I lost most of the things after an accident including car and other valuable things. So the only thing I can give is a handshake.
