Genuinely the trip of a LIFETIME
Wow.. the best trip of my life. I have travelled the East Coast solo in a van before and then recently with Travel Buddies and the difference between those two experiences is CRAZY.
It was easily the best month of my life without a doubt. I turned up on the first day solo - not knowing anyone I was going to be travelling with, as this was going to be my first proper solo trip I was pretty nervous. After meeting my group, the nerves instantly went as everyone was in the same boat - nervous and travelling solo so we all got to know each other pretty quickly.
Within the first couple of days it felt like we’d all known each other for years and had already become so close. I cannot express enough the love and deep friendships that have been made on that group trip, the people i met have genuinely become family. By day three there were already happy tears being shed with how grateful everyone was to have all met and be experiencing such an unreal trip together.
Having the safety net of having your own group to travel with is such a confidence boost and instantly makes it less intimidating to make friends with other backpackers outside of your group. Many people might think that doing it as a group means you don’t get to meet as many people but I completely disagree. I made WAY more friends doing this trip than when I did the East Coast solo.
With Travel Buddies it’s not a strict tour with a tour guide hovering over you all the time like other group trips out there. You have the freedom to go do your own thing and mingle with other people and thats exactly what our group did. We did most things together but we also branched off, met other travellers, and slowly ended up merging together with loads of other backpackers along the same route. By the end of the trip it felt like everywhere we went we knew people. We kept bumping into friends travelling a day ahead or behind us, all doing the same route, and every time we reunited the group just got bigger. By the end of it we weren’t just a tour group anymore, it genuinely felt like one massive travelling family.
The trip itself is incredible, you manage to fit everything the East Coast has to offer without missing anything. I’d say my highlights have to be spending 3 days 4WDing and camping on K’gari, sailing the Whitsundays and the surf camp - the most unreal vibes and again merging with other backpackers and making more mates - also the skydive is a MUST. Every hostel was clean, super nice and close to everything you needed.
If you’re reading this and wondering whether to book with Travel Buddies.. the answer should 1000% be yes, without a doubt in my mind I would recommend it to absolutely everyone I know.
The Travel Buddies team make a group chat with your group and send you daily reminders of where to be when for your activities, they send in all the information you need to know including tips and recommendations. If you have a problem or question, they reply straight away and sort things out immediately. They have reps to meet you along the way to introduce themselves and are there if you need anything (Sydney, Byron Bay, Airlie and Cairns).
I have genuinely made the best of friends from this trip that I otherwise would’ve never have met if I didn’t book onto this tour. On the last night I made a short film of our whole trip from beginning to end of all our best clips and funny memories we made along the way and then played it to the group on the TV as a surprise. There were a lot of belly laughs and tears whilst watching it but it made us all realise what a crazy action packed and amazing month we’ve all had. Some of the group have gone on to travel South East Asia together and we’ve already planned having a reunion in Germany for Oktoberfest and made the promise to reunite regularly in different spots around the world.
Big shout out to the queens Gemma, Ellie & Amy! Also the legends Josh & Lulu!!
If I could do it all over again, I would in the blink of an eye. Book it. You absolutely will NOT regret it, i promise you. It was the best thing I’ve ever done.
