Great experience
Since 2021 I've been on a number of foraging and mycology courses with wildfood.uk. Every course I have attended has been professionally run, and I've always learnt something new. I've had the pleasure to have met Marlow,Eric,Attila,Kerry,Rob and Fabio, each instructor is so knowledgeable and it has been a fascinating journey on how to forage safely.
Their website, books and videos are my go-to for identification, recipes and so much more. It is thanks to the whole team at wildfood that I am a confident(slightly obsessed) forager. They have opened up a whole new world to me. I can highly recommend them to anyone who is interested on booking a course to do so, as you won't be disappointed
Superb. A treasure trove of info, from a team of lovely people. So much free info!
Attended 2 courses and learnt so much both times (it wont let me add correct dares as they qere before 2025). Have always had such friendly comms with admin team as well. Bought the wild food UK guide which is my little foragers go-to source. Love the website. Loads of recipes that you hear about on the course and helpful info regarding lookalikes which helps massively. I love this company and have had such great experiences with any interaction. Would 100% recommend their foraging days. Great for novices and it fired the interest to learn more. There is so much surrounding ua and we don't have to go far. 5 stars all the way.
Highly recommend!
I have attended three foraging courses and a autumn mycology field course with this company in different locations. I have thoroughly enjoyed every single one and learnt something new each time. My children have come along to some of the events and they really enjoyed it too. The foraging guides and mycologist are really knowledgeable and really made us feel welcome. The food at the end of the first was fantastic and the mushroom soup has become a firm favourite. You have the chance to purchase some of their books and they are fantastic for assisting your foraging journey. The cookbook has some great recipes in and I can't wait to try more of them out.
I highly recommend them to anyone who would like to learn more about safe foraging and some of the usual fungi we have in the British isles.
Foraging course Eyam
Attended my first foraging course in Eyam with Wildfood UK guide Phil. I'm a novice and know a few mushrooms for id. My confidence has grown having Phil go into good depth about each mushroom he found. Well worth the money and can't wait to book for next year's spring and summer courses.
Absolutely blown away by our amazing…
Absolutely blown away by our amazing foraging day today with Marlow Renton at Notsgrove, Glos. He was so incredibly engaging, informative and entertaining. We all learnt so much - great friendly group, lovely walk, stopping to look at plants and mushrooms finishing off with fantastic food we had collected during the afternoon. Would very highly recommend.
I went on a foraging course last…Saturday
I went on a foraging course last Saturday. It was lots of fun and Dave’s knowledge was amazing. He was also fun to hang out with. We had some delicious soup, coffee and cooked mushrooms at the end. A wonderful day out. Will definitely book another course, with my daughter next time. Thanks Dave
Fantastic afternoon
Had a really good experience with Dave at Chantry Wood in Guildford. He was extremely knowledgeable and the course was very well thought out, engaging and fun. He gave very clear explanations on inedible/toxic lookalikes of the things we found which we very much appreciated as complete novices.
Dave was kind enough to provide dandelion coffee, sorrel soup and pan-fried mixed mushrooms with a homemade pickled wild garlic and hawthorn chutney (which was to die for!)
spring foraging day in New Forest…
We did the foraging day in New Forest with Marlow. We had previously done an Autumn one focusing on mushrooms which we loved so much we wanted to do the Spring one too! Marlow is incredibly knowledgeable and able to answer anything you ask! These courses are inspiring helping you learn just how much there is around us ...but always with a respectful approach to our countryside and nature. Highly recommend.
Couldn’t fault it - thanks Eric
My parner and I went on the foraging tour yesterday (18th May) ran by Eric. At the beginning Eric went over the laws of foraging and where you are allowed to forage in the UK - this helped immensely with my confidence as to where I can forage and was interesting to hear his own experience with it. We then did a beautiful walk that was packed full of information, tasting plants, soup, haw berry fruit winders and eldeflower champagne (all foraged and homemade). Then finished off by a homemade foraged meal of pesto pasta, wild mushroom patte and elderberry & raspberry tarts.
All in all such a fantastic day, we learned so much and have much more confidence in our foraging skills. Thank you to Eric, we couldn’t fault the day at all!
🌿 A Magical Foraging Experience with…
🌿 A Magical Foraging Experience with Dave B – 5 Stars! 🌿
My sister and I had the absolute pleasure of joining Dave B for a foraging experience yesterday, and it was nothing short of magical. From start to finish, the day was rich in discovery, flavour, and connection with nature.
Dave is not only incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about wild food, but also a joy to be around — fun, approachable, and full of fascinating insights. His enthusiasm is contagious, and his respect for nature and its gifts truly deepened our appreciation for the wild around us.
What made the day even more special was Dave’s incredible talent as a chef. We were treated to freshly baked sourdough bread, a comforting vegetable soup, and a delicious pizza-style flatbread topped with nettles — all made with such care and flavour. One of the highlights was watching him cook handpicked mushrooms right in front of us in a homemade wild garlic butter — absolutely divine!
The setting in Warlingham was stunning — peaceful and green, and we didn’t venture too far from our base, which made it a relaxed experience rather than a strenuous hike. I wore trainers which were perfect, and I’d recommend long trousers as we did pass through a few nettly patches.
We began the day at a lovely local pub, and although drinks weren’t included, we had the option to purchase wine or beer, which paired beautifully with the wild delicacies we were served.
All in all, this was a true 5-star experience. It was the perfect way to celebrate my 50th birthday — memorable, delicious, and soul-nourishing. I can’t recommend this enough, whether for a special occasion or simply to reconnect with nature (and your tastebuds!).
Beware
We attended a foraging session in Thetford Forest in May. The leader was so full of his own stories the first session on the rules regarding legal foraging took over 30 mins. We then walked no more than 5 mins away from a busy car park railway line nd were surrounded by visitors and ice cream vans for most of the course.
18 people on the course, far too many.
Guide then prepared our food with little regard for food hygiene. I know we are In the natural environment but I do feel sooner or later someone on one of these courses is going to be very unwell. No washing of foraged items picked beside a busy footpath with dog faeces around, and then straight into the cooking.
A great day and an informative one too
My sister and I and a friend did a foraging course in the New Forest and loved it. It was very interesting and informative and delivered brilliantly despite quite a lot of distractions from donkeys and bikers!! We learned a lot and had a freshly cooked meal at the end using some of the ingredients talked about during the walk. Thank you to Dave who ran the course and had travelled from Somerset to do it. Lovely day!
Interesting
Our course was mid March. It was interesting. Our guide clearly knew his stuff and filled the walk with occasional stories and anecdotes while giving us opportunities to nibble on various plants. The walk was over within 3hrs and followed by us standing around for 15mins while the food was set up and salads made around the corner away from us. The meal at the end was a little disappointing; bread, pesto, salad and store brought oatcakes with homemade Nutella (which was delicious). Overall an interesting afternoon but not worth the £50 paid.
Informative and Enjoyable
I thoroughly enjoyed this course. Our instructor was David B. he was very friendly and provided detailed clear explanations. He was also encouraged us to ask questions throughout the course and provided us with answers where possible. All in all, enjoyed the whole experience and will do it again.
Great day out!
My husband, sister and I recently travelled to attend a foraging day in Worcestershire as the three of us couldn’t get together at the same time to attend a more local one. It was worth the extra travel time and was run by Phil who was very knowledgable and interesting (how does he fit all his activities in?). We learned a great deal and I purchased one of their excellent books to back things up rather than trust to memory! We finished with a tasty meal using Phil’s previously foraged ingredients plus a bit foraged on the day and thoroughly enjoyed the results of his cooking skills. A great day out! PS. I am now growing hairy bittercress on my windowsill as it tastes delicious, though still trying to eradicate it from the garden!
Foraging course
We took part on one of Wild Food UK’s foraging courses at Drovers Rest in Herefordshire today and we couldn’t rave about it enough. Marlow the course instructor was very knowledgeable, engaging and incredibly interesting. We learnt a lot and have already signed up for another course later in the year.
The day consisted of a small talk to start with, where it was clear that Wild Food Uk are passionate about the subject but also about preserving the country side. We then wandered around some beautiful country side and learnt which plants we could eat, how to prepare them and also learnt about a few not to eat. We ate freshly prepared wild food which was delicious . Wild Food UK are very good in dealing with food allergies as well. For anyone who is interested in this sort of thing I would highly recommend Wild Food Uk.
Best foraging courses around!
I have done two courses with Wildfooduk and I cant be any happier! I now know how to safely identify a bunch of mushroom I can forage and eat myself and that's totally worth the time and money spent! First course was with Fabio, he's very knowledgeable and was able to teach lots of features to look for in different mushrooms genes although at points it felt a little like a lecture with not much interaction. The meal at the end was some kind of buckwheat porridge which wasn't very pleasant but that's a personal opinion. The second one was with Marlow and what can I say? He's the master! We were very excited to meet him after having watched so many of his videos for the last couple of years in YouTube. We had a couple of mushroom which we foraged the day before and he used them to teach us all how to identify them, what a pleasure and honour! He was informative, entertaining, professional and even signed us his book and cooked the yummiest wild mushroom pasta I have ever had. We had the best afternoon with him in Kent and will definitely be booking again soon. Thanks Marlow, it was a pleasure to meet you ♥️🍄
A lovely day out with experts in their field
I think it is a bit hit and miss with who you get to take you on the course. They can either be brilliant and there is a lot of seeing/touching and walking or there is far too much talking......and not much else.
The spring course is probably a better bet if you are undecided as there will be a lot more to see and pick and eat. All the instructors are experts, some are better at "teaching" than others. A friendly group, completely trustworthy and a nice afternoon out in the countryside.
Amazing afternoon with Dr Rob and others in Cardiff
Amazing afternoon with Dr Rob and some like minded fellow forager wannabes. I've wanted to do this for a while and finally had a booked slot as a gift. 4 hours in the fantastic surrounds of Bute Park, Cardiff on rugby International day no less. There was a wide and abundant selection available to learn about. Rob was very knowledge and pretty good chef. This event was well worth the cost for the course, its so much better than using just a book. looking forward to my next course booking, thanks Matt
Excellent foraging course for all
Today I went on my second course with this company. The first was with my daughters in May with Eric at Ross on Wye, one of the founders and it was so good, I booked a second with my partner who has a spinal injury. This one was more local at Elmdon and we were guided by Phil. By taking a camping chair to sit during the talks between walks, we were able to complete the course without difficulty. Informative, enjoyable and fun, these courses are for everyone. The food prepared with foraged food at the end is amazing. The prep and time by these dedicated, experienced, knowledgeable foragers that goes into creating an enjoyable day is phenomenal. I would highly recommend a day out in nature with these guys. And definately buy the book. Well laid out and excellent photos!
