Intimidation/Bait-And-Switch

On October 20, 2025, I went to Big O Tires in Orem on State Street and was subjected to a ridiculous bait-and-switch scam by Big O employees whose conduct demonstrated defensiveness/knowledge what they were doing is wrongful/unlawful. I called and spoke to Randy before arriving, explaining that my brake pads sounded like they were rubbing or scratching, and that I thought I may need new brake pads (on my 2018 Travato, a Dodge Ram 3500 Promaster with Winnie build out). I arrived and Randy gave me a bid of $1600 which seemed like a lot, but he stated that my brake pads and rotors were in need of replacement and that a caliper was “stuck.” He said my Ram brakes pads etc. cost more than most cars . . . then came back with a new estimate of $1719.70 in writing, stating that he “forgot” to add a charge. He drew a large, bold line under $1719.70, in black ink indicating the “bottom line,” total charge for the work. I reluctantly agreed to pay $1719.70, but it seemed odd that he “forgot” a charge when he does this daily. The work began and Randy left. When the work was done, Trevor handed me a bill for $1878.97. I said this is not the amount I agreed to pay, and that Big O employees changed the amount twice, increasing it by nearly $300 in an apparent bait-and-switch maneuver. Trevor tried telling me the increase was due to sales tax, then showed me the “bottom line” document Randy had shown me and someone had taken a blue ink pen and written “+ tax” just below the $1719.70 that Randy had boldly underlined with black ink as the bottom line. I pointed out that someone else had added the “+ tax” after I agreed to the $1719.70 total and that they hadn’t even bothered to use the same color of pen, then tried to tell me that the “+ tax” had been there all along. It was not; had it been there I would have asked for the real total, bottom line. I told Trevor this was inappropriate behavior by the Big O employees, and someone had obviously added (in blue ink) additional charges that were not presented to me and that I did not agree to. Then, in front of other employees and customers, Trevor raised his voice and loudly shouted in my face, “You’re FU*KING freaking out about sales tax!!” I calmly replied that he was the one raising his voice and using the “F word,” and my complaint was not about tax, but about the bait-and-switch shenanigans by the Big O employees. As a lawyer of over 35 years, I am aware of these types of tactics, and especially how, once caught, dishonest people tend to shout and bully and intimidate customers, as Trevor did to me. Surely Big O is doing something wrong to create an incentive among its employees to treat customers this way. As a former employment lawyer, I cannot imagine that Big O does not know about this or is not encouraging it. I am here to help anyone who needs help or a witness to what these clowns are doing at Big O in Orem, Utah. I can be reached via my civil rights website, LordAdvocates (.org).

Big O Tires in Jackson Wyoming Needs Senior Leadership Guidance and Development

I visited Big O Tires in Jackson, Wyoming on 11/13/25 in the afternoon. The manager was polite but explained that no more oil changes would be done that day, and asked me to return the next morning at 7:30 a.m.
On 11/14/25, I arrived at 6:50 a.m. and waited until the doors opened at 7:35. I handed over my keys and phone number, was quoted the cost of the oil change, and was told I’d receive a call when the vehicle was ready. Unfortunately, the experience that followed was disappointing:
- By 9:30 a.m., my vehicle was still not ready.
- Staff prioritized another vehicle that arrived after mine.
- The assistant manager was unaware of the status of my service.
- A bay employee struggled to reinstall the undercarriage cover and had to call for help.
- I did not get my vehicle back until nearly 11:00 a.m.
- I was offered only a $10 discount for the inconvenience, despite having a six-hour drive ahead of me.
My Observations
- Oil changes were clearly not treated as a priority.
- Management cited staffing shortages, yet underqualified employees were left to work independently without oversight.
- Leadership failed to communicate effectively, leaving the assistant manager uninformed.
- Senior staff did not step in to support less experienced employees.
- Overall, leadership demonstrated poor performance and weak accountability.
Conclusion
This experience reflects a lack of leadership and training that could pose safety risks for customers. A “first in, first out” approach would be a simple improvement. More importantly, senior management must actively guide and support their team rather than leaving underqualified employees to struggle. Customers deserve timely service, competent workmanship, and meaningful compensation when delays occur.

They found a nail patch the hole and it didn’t cost me anything.😍 that was so very nice of them😘 Steve was especially helpful. He did a great job. I appreciated his attention to the problem. Went to Big O on Sat for a tire that…

Went to Big O on Sat for a tire that was low, had to wait over five minutes before someone helped. Returned on Sunday as tire still low. Had to leave my vehicle there was told tire was fixed. Today (Monday) again my tire was low. Finally was told I needed a new tire and sensors? Spoke with Paul he explained what sensors are used for. I told Paul of my experience(s) on Sat and Sun, When I go to Big O I ALWAYS look for Paul, he treats me like a person not a person who knows nothing about vehicles. He is the BEST!!!!

Taken for a ride at 9th So 300 W SLC Big O

I took my 2018 Silverado in for a simple rotate and balance to 9th so 300 w SLC. I was told I had one bent wheel (these are factory 22" wheels about $800 a piece new) they said it couldn't be repaired and ask me if I wanted them thrown in the trash) HA. I bought new wheels and left with a $2100.00 bill. The new wheels were not right for my truck and I had to take it back three times for them to mess with the alignment so they wouldn't rub. I asked them to take the wheels back but they wouldn't. Turns out I could have my old wheel repaired at Wheel Werks and did for $175.00. I was a long time customer of this Big O store but will never go back. Went to Les Schawb and what a difference in service and honesty. Big O also told me I need all shocks and struts replaced. Les Schwab said only my rear shocks were bad.

Big O on Fort Apache and Spring Mtn

Big O on Fort Apache and Spring Mtn. in Las Vegas is the best of the best. Mgr. Corey and front desk clerk Aaron went above and beyond customer service skills to make me feel welcome and comfortable. they walked and talked me thru everything about my car issues. Very friendly, nice, caring and compassionate guys. They are a huge asset to Big O company. this is my new ride or day place to go for my car. So happy with the results. Thank you. Laurie Jones.

Avoid! Total Scam

I took my car to Big O Tires last week for a battery replacement and oil change, and when I went to pick it up, the total was $650. Absolutely outrageous. The battery alone was $420 for an AGM, which I looked up online later and found was completely overpriced. I paid it, reluctantly.

Then, I got in my car and immediately noticed the check engine light was on. Mason came out and checked it, then had the nerve to ask me “Are you sure it wasn’t already on?” Uh… YES, I’m sure. Then he claimed they “documented” that it was on before they started working on it. What a convenient excuse. Sketchy doesn’t even begin to describe this, it felt like a slimy way to cover their tracks in case anything went wrong. He reset the light and it didn’t come back, which makes it even more suspicious.

While I was there, I asked for a rough estimate for brake repairs on my boyfriend’s car. Mason said about $500–$600, which sounded fine. We brought it in today for the inspection and suddenly they quoted us $840. We said no and walked out. Not even 10 minutes later, they called us back to say they “over quoted” and now it’s actually $650. Yeah, that’s not an accident, that’s a bait and switch. It’s a scam, plain and simple.

Everything about this place reeks of shady practices. Between the inflated prices, the check engine light cover-up, and the wild quoting games, it’s clear they’re trying to squeeze every dollar they can from people who don’t know better. I’ve seen reviews saying people felt scammed, now I know exactly what they mean.

I will never go back here and I’ll be posting this review on every single platform I can to warn others. Stay far away from Big O Tires.

Incompetent installation

I’m very angry at Big O Tires right now. 11 months ago (8,000 miles driving) I purchased 4 new tires at Big O, for about $1500. On Friday one of my front tires blew out without warning. Took it to a different tire shop, and learned that Big O had reversed new front and rear tires. Front tires have been continuously rubbing and getting worn down from the inside, until one totally wore through. Other front tire was ready to blow out as well (inside looks totally shredded). I needed to replace both damaged tires, at a cost of almost $750 - simply because of Big O’s incompetent installation.

Big O does not care about their customers!

Took my sons truck to get serviced. They came back with what it needed to fix the AC with the verbiage "do this and we will have your AC ice cold before you leave". It was a $300 fix so I said go ahead. It did not fix the AC and now they want $1,400 for a compressor. I called the manager Jeff at the Phx location on Cave Creek. After multiple times of him explaining how AC needs to be looked at I had to cut him off and say that's not the issue. I'm not even upset it needs something else but I do want you to refund me the $300 and give me a good price on the compressor as a fix to this problem. His response was "I'm not going to do that". He did admit his guy shouldn't have said that but offered no solution for the unkept promise. I felt I was more than fair as I wasn't holding him to the commitment that this truck should have the "ice cold air". I just asked him to refund the $300 vs them eating the $1,400 it now needs since their recommendation did not fix the truck as they said it would.

This is the second issue I have had there. I took my work truck there after I hit a pothole. It had a bad vibration making it undriveable. I took a call saying it needed suspension work to fix the issue but he also recommended tires. I said if the suspension is the vibration issue lets start there. I picked the truck up that night and didnt make it a mile before you could easily tell the vibration was exactly the same as drop off. When I called Tim said the tires were the issue. I said why did we do the suspension then when I brought it to you for the vibration? On that occasion again I wasn't upset I just asked Tim to give me a fair price on the tires for the issue. Tim did and I had new tires on the truck the next day fixing the original issue. All I asked for was a fair resolution to the issue and it solved the problem.

I have probably spent 6k at this location on my trucks last year and they wont fix their own $300 mistake! As timing would have it I probably need another 3-4k in servicing on these trucks right now but I will have to take my business elsewhere. This is terrible problem solving buy Big O. ON top of that I filed a complaint with their customer service department with them telling me I would have a return call within 24 hours. That is now 48 hours ago and if you try to call that number it just hangs up on you.

I would advise you to take your business elsewhere as they will not stand behind their work!

I hit a curb, yikes needed a lot of work.

I hit a curb, ruined my tire and needed an alignment along with other major work on my 2006 very dependable but roughly treated car which I wanted to keep. The price tag was hefty, but Hunter took a long time thoroughly explaining everything, answering all questions on a very busy Easter weekend. I was very impressed with his knowledge and genuine concern. Definitely recommended.

Chauncey Snyder at the 1181 E

Chauncey Snyder at the 1181 E. PCH, Long Beach, CA store was fantastic!
I figured he was a manager because of his professional demeanor and extensive knowledge, I was surprised to find out he was not.
This ma n should be the manager, he has everything it takes in my opinion and would be a good example to fellow employees he manages.

My van runs perfectly smooth, everything Chauncey said was spot on perfect!

Thank you Chauncey for the great help and thank you Big O for given me confidence in a place I can now trust to bring my vehicles to when in need of these services.

Adrian and team always take great care…

Adrian and team always take great care of me. I was in the other day and I thought I had two issues with my TEP sensors. Adrian came out and told me only one sensor was broken. They always do great work and awesome turnaround. Very happy to have these guys in my back yard. Thank you!

Two year tires put on my car

When the agent checked my tires he told me I had had the tires nine years not possible I was not living in AZ in 2016 which is the date on tire. Then he told me the tire was two years old when installed. After six years warranty expired which would have been in 2024 so actually I have had them from 2018 to 2025 not nine years. So they should tell customers that tires are two years old when installing the tires also warranty if they count the date on tires and not the actual date tires on car. Just ask questions because they do not tell you.

I bought two new tires and had the front end alignment added.My TPMS light on the dash was still on when they finished,I was told it would go off after I drove a few miles.It did not turn off so I went back and was told I needed a new battery for my valve stem signal system.They scammed me into paying for the battery&the light still did not turn off.Then they said it needed to be hooked up to a scanner to reset it, the light turned off but came back on the next day so I went back a third time and was told the cold weather affected the tire pressure they checked the air in my tires and said it should turn off now.It never did turn off and is still on weeks later despite three follow up visits ! !

Wait for hours

Don't go here if you want to wait hours on hours even if you have an appointment. I have an appointment for 1 pm. They said it will take several hours to look at my tire. Literally I just need my tire checke for a nail. The only reason why I came here instead of discount is because it's under warranty. It's not the first time this has happened. I will not be using Big O for any of my car needs after my warranty is up. There are many other mechanics to choose from.
