They closed my credit account with no warning or reason
The bank suddenly closed my credit account with no warning and will not explain. They claim they sent a letter a few days ago, but there are no alerts in my inbox in my acxount! I had been a customer for over 20 years with a bank they absorbed a few years ago. From my research, unusual behavior can trigger certain flags and banks can then decide to close the account immediately. The only strange behavior was I made a one-time, unusually large payment from a recent financial gift I received. This is the most idiotic response! And there was no option to discuss or appeal. I found out when I tried to pay for groceries. I will never do business with them and their unethical behaviors again.
Warning about BMO credit cards...
Last week BMO put out a 24 page terms of agreement which, if an attorney read it to you, says that they can cancel your card at any time without giving you a reason. For 15 years we have used our Platinum Bmo Harris credit card to pay for most of our living expenses. We typically have a monthly credit card bill of about $1,300 and we always pay the entire balance and have never paid interest on the card. Today my card was declined at several stores. I called BMO (nightmare to contact them) and asked why my credit card was declined. I was told that the card was cancelled and, as per their 24 page statement of terms, they do not have to give me notice or reason for the cancellation. My theory is that it was cancelled because we have always paid on time and they have never made any interest off of us. We used their card, paid the bill in full each month and have cashed in a lot of Rewards points. My advice to you is that, if you pay your bills and don't accrue interest on your credit card - stay the hell away from BMO Harris!
I had a $18,000 credit card line of…
I had a $18,000 credit card line of credit. I paid this off every month to a 0 balance. I found out today that BMO canceled my card due to the tariffs placed on them by the United States. Canada is the worst.

I’ve been banking with this bank for…7
I’ve been banking with this bank for over 5 years the minute I deposit my tax check in my account they closed down my whole account in put A fraud alert on it. Now this not my 1st rodeo at A bank where they whole A check until it clears I’m with that, but when u go to close my personal account to where I can’t access A dollar from what’s already been in from my paycheck I worked for when I have bills coming out, can’t feed my family, can’t put gas and my car, can’t uber my children home from school they have to walk miles in the cold because I’m A single parent at work so I can’t just leave work everyday I called the BMO Harris and ask to speak to A manager they send me directly to the fraud department. Everyone from the fraud department is treating me as if my tax check not legit or if I have done something bogus to my account NEVER. The first day I discovered it was locked and my funds was frozen was 3/18/2025 they ask for me to verify so I sent in the documents they were asking, Herman from the fraud department insured me that it’ll be 3 to 5 business days. Now today 3/24/2025 I called Ebony and another guy with A thick accent say 14 to 30 days and she said out of her mouth “if you want some cash from your paycheck on this Friday call me and I’ll see that you get some cash on Tuesday” this is sick the guy with deep accent hung up on me and told me to get my lawyer this bank is awful I will be filing A complaint with the better business bureau my whole life is put on hold because of this bank the IRS states they never reached out to them and want to issue me another check but they can’t until April 11 2025 this is the worst bank ever please get your money and run is what I’m doing the minute they clear my account I will be calling my lawyer
BMO customer service is awful
BMO customer service is awful! BMO has all my data on the web site wrong. When I bring this up to them they keep saying they'll fix it but since my loan is paid off they can't help me when all I want is my transaction details. AWFUL!
BMO Harris - Incompetent dispute resolution
ABSOLUTELY stay away from this absolutely incompetent bank.
I paid Enterprise car rental using this disgusting BMO Cash Back Credit Card, and after completing the trip, I was charged $285.30 more than what I booked the car during reservation on Expedia. Since I paid to Enterprise, I called their customer care multiple times, and also their underwriting multiple times to refund the difference, which is legitimate, as I have Expedia reservation bill and payment receipt, where the difference is clear like day and night, but they did nothing. So, as a last resort, I contacted BMO Credit Card Disputes department to file a dispute. In the credit card login, there is no option to dispute a transaction, so I had to call. The dispute department was 100% against taking request. The shameless lady said, they will take the dispute only if the company has promised in writing to refund the difference (check your call recordings collected for QC purposes). If the company promised to refund the difference, then why would I dispute it? So, I requested them to take the case, provided all evidences and after 3 months, they sent a shameless mail as a display of their utter incompetence and sheer failure to even solve a simple dispute as this with clear evidences. I'm surprised why do these idiots even have a job, and a department to resolve disputes if the customer and merchant can solve between them, why is this dispute dept. needed? I would never be in a job even for a day if I know that I'm incompetent in that job, but these shameless people are absolutely with zero conscience!
There is no reason to bank with them even if they offer you any free bonus, etc.
Worst Bank EVER!! Do not use!!
I signed up for BMO a few years ago for the convenience because there was a branch by my place. However, it is the worst bank ever. None of their processes are automated, yet they use super cheap manual labor which not only makes everything inefficient but also nonsecure.
Especially recent years, when you make a transaction, instead of processing that fund, the bank holds that amount in pending until midnight, and only monday thru thursday nights. but here's what's awful, the processing Partner they use hold that fund. and when it's time to pay the merchant, they take the actual fund from your account separately!
That's right, when you make a $100 purchase, you get $100 taken on hold for 2 weeks in that pending status, which is deducted from your balance. but an additional $100 is taken from your account to make the actual payment instead of using the $100 that was taken out as pending transaction.
So every transaction charge you double! and the pending stays in the pending status for 2 weeks!!! so every transaction you make, they steal your fund for 2 weeks for who knows what. and they blame it on the vendor when it's their own awful process.
oh and the app, nothing works, you want to make a zelle payment? something that normally takes a few minutes now takes days!
you want to cancel a zelle payment? something that normally takes seconds now also takes days. because of the transaction processing company they use which steals your money and puts it on hold.
they will put a pending status on everything. this bank is probably bankrupting and just stealing all these funds to hold it together. I have left them and I recommend you do too!
BMO would be your biggest mistake
I really urge anyone who's thinking of banking with BMO, to not even consider it. Worst customer service and general service in all. Because you have customer service who speak little to no English, they misunderstand the conversation all the time and don't get given information correctly, like your address or account number. They've literally transferred money to someone else's account and when I addressed it, they basically made the situation worse by not making it right and me losing thousands of dollars while someone else got my money, they won't compensate me for any of it or revers those transfers back into my account. I needed a new debit card a month ago since my old one got stolen, and it never showed. I had to reorder another one and im still waiting on it 2 weeks later. I'm late on bills, my car insurance got canceled because I've made no payments since my card hasn't arrived, my car payments are building for being late, and guess what, BMO isn't gonna do anything about it but leave you in this deep hole to climb out yourself. I've been with BMO for 14 years and it's been nothing but an extremely stressful, depressing and frustrating road with them. I never have the pleasure of speaking to them, even calling them takes a lot of energy for me because it's always so draining because you always have to repeat yourself and makes use they have the information correctly, but you can't understand a word that the callers say. Bank elsewhere
OMG - BMO Is the WORST
OMG, this is the very worst bank to do business with. Phone-based customer service is horrendous. The mobile application is horrible. You can't even make a payment from BO checking to BMO HELOC. You have to go to the branch. WHAT? If you make a principal-only payment to the HELOC, they will take next month's payment out of that principal amount payment without notifying you. RUN and RUN fast to another bank.
I wish I could give less than one star
I wish I could give less than one star, my experience has been nothing short of absolutely atrocious. I for one am pulling my accounts after this experience. I have been lied to right to my face then treated like I was stupid (Hudson Place Branch Woodbury Minnesota). My mistake for trusting a banks word. They are now wrongfully withholding over $10,000 dollars in my account for a “suspicious check” that was a US Bank drawn check I deposited yesterday from an insurance claim. All I get for answers is it could be up to two weeks while it’s reviewed. Who do you think you are BMO, the IRS? You care nothing about customer experience and therefore you operate unethically by any standard. Can’t wait to close my account. Oh and I forgot, they called the police on me, not to say I was unruly or disorderly, but to say they were worried and to request the police come to my home and perform a welfare check. Oh.. my… GOD, you people suck in the biggest way.
Terrible credit card experience!
This is their second attempt to pull out a payment covering the entire balance of my BMO credit card. I never authorized this. I have all my credit accounts set up to pull out the minimum payment each month. On Thursday (02/20/2025) I received a text that my BMO account was accessed from an unregistered device. I didn’t think much of it because nothing appeared to look changed. But then Saturday (02/22/2025) I get a text from the same number saying that a payment of over $600 has been made on my BMO credit card account on Friday (02/21/2025). I checked my bank and saw no such transaction, so thought it must be a mistake and I’ll deal with it Monday. But today, Sunday (02/23/2025), I see my bank is now showing my account extremely overdrawn because of this transaction. I’ve notified the bank that this was not an approved transaction. In looking over my past BMO statement I see they previously (a month or 2 ago) attempted a payment transaction which was returned by my bank and they charged me a $30 fee for that. Now I’m sure they will be charging another fee when this transaction is returned. This is theft!!! If someone from the company goes into my account and changes my settings to approve them pulling payment of the entire account balance rather than just the minimum payment, this is theft and deceptive practices on the part of BMO!! They didn’t even notify me of what they had done until the day after they did it (pulling the payment Friday and not notifying me until Saturday), and clearly they strategically chose right before the weekend to attempt this, as there’s nothing I can do about it until Monday! DO NOT TRUST THIS BANK!!! They clearly engage in deceptive and illegal practices to saddle customers with fees!!!
BMO Bank Checking
I open a account with BMO Bank in December online, and was told that I was not authenicated after giving all my correct information. Decided not to transfer money from my other Bank until I knew for sure a ATM card would be given to used. Went into the branch on February 3, 2025, and was not offered one, but was told it would be sent in the mail so I put in a small amount of money into my checking account to cover ordered checks and have money left over until my card comes in the mail. I was never given any brochures about my checking account and found out the day I was at the Sherman Oaks branch that the ATM is only available M-F banking hours only 9-5 PM. I am totally disappointed because I now need to do my own research of where the ATM card can be used. I called customer service and was told by Tammy that my card was ordered two days later and really not sure when the card will come because it has been 8 days already. I am a new customer and was hesitant to open this account because of all the bad reviews I had read online but gave them a chance anyway, and so far my experience is not going well with this bank maybe things will get better but not starting off right.
Do your research before banking with…
Do your research before banking with this app. They have really poor customer service. I signed up to have a bank account with them in 10/24. Recently but not new new. Everytime i called the customer service, I always get directed to the branch. I go to the branch each time and undergo every intensive verification. And after 1st time, I was assured that the alert they had on my account was removed. Now. I'm not stupid. This is called a failed verification. I used to be a phone banker and I know the process.
And guess what, 3 weeks in, I called the customer service line, needing help getting online banking. Mind you, they have 2 systems. If one system have a mismatch of your personal information. Your online banking, does not work AT ALL. Was told from the CS (customer service) that i need to step into the branch and my call will not be service on. At this point I'm like WTF! WENT BACK TO THE BRANCH DID MORE VERIFICATION! WAS ASSURED AGAIN THAT ITS FOR SURE, FOR SURE REMOVED!
WELL, it did not. In Jan. 2025 I called CS and told them I'm expecting a check. A larger amount than normal because it's my disability check. And lord and behold, they reject my deposit and now I have to deposit the check. I did it through mobile app. 15 mins later the check was approved. I want and watch some movie and guess what !!! 3 hrs later I tried to login to my Online Banking. It is now locked and to what, TO FRAUD! THIS BANK IS NOTHING BUT A JOKE! CALLED THE FRAUD DEPARTMENT, THEY WERE RUDE ASF!
TAKE YOUR MONEY AND BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. THEY DONT DESERVE YOUR BUSINESS. THEIR BMO BANK, SHOULD BE CALLED BANK OF THE HELL !
If i could give one star that is what i…
If i could give one star that is what i would have given. They stole over $5000 from me i was forced to report to Rose Lane GP Limited
This bank is a Canadian bank
This bank is a Canadian bank, I had no idea that that’s what this type of bank was when I opened up my account! Then there’s a deposit of $498 that was put into my account and I didn’t catch it so I spent the funds cause I don’t keep track of my bank account like I should if it shows money I’ll spend it. But I had a direct deposit in there, which would really covered more than enough for the amount that they’re wondering about, but they’ve had my account held hostage since last Thursday. I have the only income coming into my home and I have two small children in my home. Do you think they care if I didn’t have any money or not? Sorry poor excuse for a bank. I feel sorry for the Canadiens. Maybe they should become the 51st state go Trump.
CANNOT WITHDRAW
I have been using this bank for a long time and then all of a sudden i am unable to withdraw my deposits and their support was no help so i had to ask Rose Lane GP Limited to intervene
I closed my accounts due to unwarranted…
I closed my accounts due to unwarranted charges and false promises made to restore said fees. I walked into my branch signed a bunch of paper and was given the cash remaining in my accounts. Today, three years later I find out my account was never closed and now has a negative balance. They are a scam! Seriously messing with people who don't have the money to be robbed by a bank.
Bank of the West was BETTER
Bank of the West was BETTER.
I got shoved into BMO banking when Bank of the West was bought out. Never had an issue with Bank of the West - BMO bank has "frozen" my account about 10 times now in the last 2 years once for a $1.99 charge once on the day that I called them to activate a "new" credit card they froze the account shortly before I called to activate it and did not even bother to tell me WHEN I was on the phone with them for 20 minutes checking the account - had to call back the next day again to unfreeze my account for Audible charge that is a regular reoccurring charge as I am a voracious reader
Please consider other banks before…
Please consider other banks before choosing BMO for a mortgage. My father recently passed away, and he had a mortgage with BMO. That was six months ago, and I am still working to get the account in good standing. Since my father's passing, he was unable to make payments, and the account went into foreclosure. I was responsible for thousands of dollars in attorney and county fees because they filed for foreclosure, even though he was deceased and we provided a death certificate. Months later, they still call me, telling me that I need to bring the account current, even though I've paid $8,000 to the attorney and the county to resolve the foreclosure. Every time I call them, they ask me the same questions repeatedly, and I have to speak to multiple agents who can't assist me. On the most recent call, I asked how I can have access to the online portal, and they said that I need to call weekly until the foreclosure is cleared. If I didn't have the time or the $8,000 to resolve this, they would have happily foreclosed on the loan because there is a lot of equity in the property. I feel their process is unprofessional and certainly not honest, nor does it look out for the consumer of the loan. Having a mortgage with this company puts you at risk of all these headaches and potentially losing your home if you were to pass away, and your family had to navigate these challenges. Please stay away; find a local bank that will provide you with a mortgage. This company is so large; it seems like no one knows what anyone else is doing. I even went into the branch to ask for help and encountered the same issues. It is very disappointing and ridiculous that this is even permitted. This should be illegal.
