Waste of time
Waste of time - tried to open an account. The online process has you submit id docs via the online document submission portal. Unlike modern providers there is no instant verification - so you wait - only to get an email that states they need signed paper copies in the post. Email also makes the point that it will take up to 10 days and then they will send a paper welcome pack in the post and of course it is an email you can't reply to, so I can't even politely tell them not to bother - so I'll do it here. No thanks - I'll go elsewhere. Get with the times Cahoot!
Unlike other customers before me
Unlike other customers before me, I have actually been quite happy. I do agree the website is dated and needs a mobile app to ensure you can check your savings but it was easy to open an account, it's easy to keep track and so far have had no issues, while accessing a decent interest rate (as always, this could be better).
My husband tried to open an account and…
My husband tried to open an account and failed because his bank card has an initial instead of full name of one of his 3 christian names, whereas his passport has all 3 names. He spent many hours queuing to talk to Customer Service who initially gave him the wrong info and another advisor finally gave the correct reason he'd failed. He gave up.
I opened an account, but logging on to online banking was a joke. I reset my user name and set a security number and password, but when logging on was told there was an error. Tried again with correct details but was then logged out completely. After a 40 min wait to speak to someone (Craig, who was actually helpful!) I was told I'd be sent the 2 letters in the post again to re-set and start again. Very antiquated system. Also, dreadful 'hold' musack. Can't you put on some proper music whilst customers wait forever?
lengthy process to get account opened…
lengthy process to get account opened and then after receiving 2 letters in the post with username and pin code it is still not working. no app, no online chat, no email and long delay getting through on phone with agent unable to resolve the issue. have now cancelled my account. don't waste your time with this bank.
Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.
Dreadful. Don’t do it. I’ve no idea why Martin Lewis recommends the instant access account. It been three weeks and I still can’t access my money. Access blocked. Customer services can’t help. You have to wait for, not one but two letters in the post. Still can’t access. I will be closing the account as soon as I can.
Simply the worst online experience…
Simply the worst online experience ever. Tried to move funds, payment denied and blocked from account. Three days later unblocked. Tried just now to make a different payment again payment denied and account blocked. On helpline again waiting. just found out closing account takes email and can take 14 days. So much fot instant access.
Just don't.
I have spent a week so far trying to open one of their joint saver accounts.
As requested I have uploaded passports and other bank statements with the full name and address of both of us who are also on the electoral roll which any credit check will also cover.
Each day I receive an email saying the names aren't shown and asking for more ID than a passport.
Today I gave up and took the £240,000 we were going to invest elsewhere.
Mickey Mouse bank.
What went right this time??
What went wrong this time? The question should be what has ever gone right? I opened a new savings account late August and after trying to log in the first time and failing I called and after an inexcusably long wait I got through to a helpful chap who tried to help and then said no, they’ll have to send two new letters with a new user name and security number. I managed to log in this week but after trying to return the sum to myself (I’m closing this awful account) I got another message asking for my security code - is that the one for logging in, or another? Who knows? Upshot is I’ve got to have another couple of letters sent out in the post again. All I want is my money back!!!
Absolutely useless
Absolutely useless. The online application process does not work. They can’t accept any current file formats for documents that they requested. Their processes are cumbersome, unnecessary, unfriendly and dysfunctional. Don’t go anywhere near them total waste of time.
Another dissatisfied customer who closed his account
Like so many others, my experience with Cahoot was dismal. The process of opening a savings account was horrid and remarkably antiquated: to access the account I had to receive two letters, one with a temporary user name, the other with a code.
This method is fraught with problems - two letters doubles the chances of one or both getting lost. Mine never arrived, but I had already transferred some money into the account. Because I didn't have the letters, I couldn't access it.
And to add insult to injury, when I finally got through to customer service on the 5th attempt (the other calls kept me waiting up to 40 minutes before I hung up) they couldn't verify my identity. Why? Because I did not have the codes from the damn letters.
In the end, I sent a letter by special delivery demanding they close the account and return my money to the account from which it was sent, which took another two weeks.
It seems to me that, given how many people have reported the same problems over a long period of time, that Cahoot have little or no respect for their customers, do not care if their reputation is constantly disparaged, and will not invest in systems and customer service levels appropriate to a major financial institution. I will not do business with them again.
Even the guy at cahoot I rang to get…
Even the guy at cahoot I rang to get help said the account isn’t user friendly . Locked out now and got to wait for details to arrive by snail 🐌 mail . WTA ?
Can’t access my money at all now
Hopeless - unable to log onto a brand new account
Brand new account - Sunny Saver. Letters arrived in the post as expected. Logged on for the first time, did what they asked me to do. I noted all the details so they cannot be wrong. Logged out so that I could ensure I would be able to get in again IF I ever invest any money. I couldn't log in. The screens don't even match what an email told me to expect. Tried phoning ... it will be more than 20 minutes. OH NO IT WON'T. You will not be getting any money from me ! Why would I invest in a firm with a Mickey Mouse front end ?? I simply cannot trust Cahoot. It's been a very brief relationship and it's already over. Goodbye. (I tried 2026 08 27 & 28. Not wasting any more time)
Stiil better, perhaps, to steer clear of CAHOOT altogether!
Most people know that the Three-toed sloth is the slowest creature in the animal kingdom.
If you were to compare this with the UK Banking sector, then the equivalent would surely be Cahoot, a digital subsidiary of Santander. In fact, compared with the poor sloth, toe-less Cahoot is considerably slower, when compared to every other bank/financial institution!
Recently I was lucky to receive an inheritance of £80k. I did not want to invest this, or tie it up for years, partly because of my age, and existing assets, but also because there would be some more funds added, following a property sale, and some cash retained.
I saw the Easy Saver from Cahoot - 4.55% interest for a year, instant access, and monthly income! Ideal, I thought.
So, I did what I've done hundreds of times already: I opened an online application and received a sort code and a/c number to add funds, but online access was not virtually immediate, as it is nowadays with most similar institutions.
Cahoot sends out the relevant login details by post, in two separate mailings - rather like a PIN code and new credit card, but unlike a credit card, the information arrived very quickly, so you were ready to go within a few days of the initial online application.
Now, Cahoot is a digital subsidiary of Santander, with whom I do my day-to-day banking, and, while they're far from perfect, I don't usually have any issues with them overall. So, I thought, dealing with Cahoot, where a lot of the infrastructure even looks the same, I should be pretty safe. BIG MISTAKE!
On August 19, I received an email from Cahoot, with details of my new sort code and account number, and where it stated: '...we'll send 2 letters within the next 7 days, which will be sent separately for security'.
To date - August 27, neither envelope has arrived!
Fearing that they had been sent, but gone astray in the post, I phoned their customer service department, as follows: August 20 (2 calls of 1'12" and 10'55" respectively), August 24(1 call of 69'57"). The last call was probably the longest time in my life, that I'd been speaking with a bank!!
The agent in Belfast was lovely! He fully appreciated the totally unacceptable amount of time I'd been waiting, not only for the two letters to arrive, but also the well-over 50-minutes' waiting-time on the call and said he didn't know why this was happening.
The initial problem could be that, if two further envelopes were sent, the details here could update the original ones sent, which would then completely thwart any chance of an online login, and take me - rather like in a game of Snakes and Ladders (where Cahoot are the snakes, and I'm a quarter of the way up the ladder!) - right back to square one! His advice was to wait, see - and hope - which I'm doing, but to little avail, it seems.
To make matters worse, because I already have my Cahoot account details, and don't want to have £80k sitting around earning zero interest, I decided to transfer it from my Santander current account, where it was temporarily deposited, and send it 'off into the blue', hoping that it would reach my Cahoot account! Of course, as I don't have online access to that account yet, short of wasting another hour or so on the phone, just to check it had been received, I trusted the fact that, because Santander and Cahoot are related the details I gave were correct. At least when I asked the agent at Cahoot whether there was any money in my account, he could confirm that the £80k had arrived!
I suppose it just shows the wisdom of checking out Trustpilot reviews first! With an average rating of 1.8%, and nearly everyone complaining about the same issues I have, I ought to have avoided using Cahoot altogether, and sought out somewhere with a lower interest rate, but one that was more efficient!
Because I have no online access, I can't even take my money straight out, because, without that access, the facility to send them in-house secure messages is NOT available!
August 28th - UPDATE!
In this morning's post, I eventually received both required envelopes from Cahoot in the post, so can now go ahead and log in for the first time!
Now, although Cahoot isn't my flavour-of-the-month, I must say that, on that original email from them, it did state that 'the details would arrive by post within 7 days' - AND, to be fair, including the weekend, this is exactly what happened, so, while, in my opinion, they seem incredibly slow and long-winded, they did what they said they would - fair's fair!
I've now used the information from both envelopes that arrived today, and now have FULL online access to my account at Cahoot, and, apart from it initially not 'liking' one of my password suggestions, the process went fairly well, and is fairly straightforward - as long as you keep your wits in the process!
Very disappointed
Very disappointed - I set up a new account, waited 7 days for the 2 letters required to use on line banking. Day 1 - did the usual trials of paying in/paying out with small £. Day 2 attempted to deposit larger sum to find funds returned to the original bank. Spent over 1/2 hour trying to get through to someone by phone to be told the account wasn't active yet (clearly it had been to do the deposit/payment above). After challenging them, they checked and said the account had 'technical issues' and they cant say when it will be fixed. I'm closing it (when I can!) and using Tesco, as today they posted a better savings rate. I wouldn't waste you time with this bunch.
Don't advise of higher rate on new issue of same account
I happened to see that a better rate was available on a new issue of the Simple Saver account.
Cahoot problems with sending the One Time Passcode (OTP) - nearly an hour on the phone to get through.
They conveniently don't advise you that a new issue has been released with a better rate.
When I asked to submit a formal complaint about that, I was refused.
Lousy service.
21 minutes trying to telephone them and…
21 minutes trying to telephone them and agents are still unavailable -login problems cant see my savings account and there is no other way to contact them Very concerning !!
Awful experience trying to join
Awful experience trying to join for a savings account. Takes over a week to get your log on details in the post to access it. It wouldn't let me in, had to call and they send out new details, advised not to change username when prompted. The next attempt there was another issue with their website where it wouldn't proceed after entering contact details. I'm now nearly 2 months into opening an account and several hours lost to customer service and still haven't been able to put money in. Apparently interest starts from the day you open the account so I'm missing out on months of interest on savings sitting in my account. I would close the account if it wouldn't take hours sat on the phone to customer service again, so appalling. in 2026, all other banking is so much quicker and has chats, I wouldn't bother with Cahoot.
Process Failures
Opened a Sunny Day Saver account on 2nd August. Only chose them because the interest rate was good and Money Saving Expert listed them in their best savings accounts.
22 days later I am still waiting for the two letters in the post that I need to log onto online banking or the app.
I rang them after 14 days and they said some letters failed to get sent. They re-sent them. Now eight days later I am still waiting.
They are obviously a MICKEY MOUSE outfit. If it wasn't for the generous interest rate I'd had given up and moved on by now.
Absolutely useless.
Hopeless online banking
I'm trying to open a saver account. The website simply won't allow me to set a new password, just takes me back to the start each time with no explanation, despite my password fulfilling all the requirements. There's no online chat, no app. I tried calling them up, but got the standard "exceptionally high demand" message, and cut off after 5 mins. I won't be trusting them with my money.
Happy to wait.
Have gone with cahoot for the interest rate. Yes had to wait for the letters and have to log in online but hey have a great interest rate so I was happy to wait. All up and running and earning interest now. It was'nt so hard!
