Extremely Disappointed with My Results and Follow-Up Care
I had a FUE hair transplant (2,200 hairs) with Dr. Shahmalak around 14 months ago, costing me nearly £11,000. I deliberately waited over a year before writing this review to give the results time to fully develop. Unfortunately, the outcome has been very disappointing — the growth is extremely patchy, and I would estimate that only around 30% of the transplanted hairs have actually grown back.
When I attended my annual check-up, I raised these concerns hoping for an honest discussion or some form of support. Instead, I felt completely dismissed. Dr. Shahmalak was patronising and kept insisting he was “very happy with the results,” despite my clear dissatisfaction. When I said, “With all respect, surely me not being happy should be important,” my comment was brushed aside.
For the amount of money spent and the trust placed in this clinic, I expected a far more professional and empathetic approach. Sadly, I walked away feeling ignored, disrespected, and with poor results that have genuinely affected my confidence. I would strongly advise anyone considering this clinic to think very carefully before committing.

My hair transplant was good

From the first phone call I made to the clinic I found the staff very friendly and knowledgeable. I had a no pressure consultation in The Crown Clinic near Manchester airport and after examining my bald patch i was given a 60-65% chance of success as Dr. Shahmalak could see there was still blood supply there. I had previously had multiple trips to different hospitals and biopsies and no explanation for the cause by the NHS. As I had such a lack of confidence I felt it was worth a shot. I am now 5 months down the line and can already see much improvement which has been commented on by friends and family. I followed the aftercare exactly which may have helped the success. After 10 days you get a check up in the clinic to make sure everything is okay. There is at least one more follow up included. Whilst it is still quite early days a can not find any fault with this clinic and would recommend despite some poor reviews. Thank you to all at the clinic.

I contacted Crown Clinic in 2015 and agreed to pay £10,000 for (£5 per graft) 2,000 FUE grafts, I expected to receive really good results and an honest service considering Dr Shahmalak’s reputation albeit looking back on this is just a good PR team.

I have attached some photos to give this contextual value and insight for others looking to have a procedure done. The first procedure was extremely painful and mainly performed by technicians and I was advised they implanted over 2000 grafts which I believed at the time to be a great success, the outline of the implanted was uneven and a strange shape as you will see by the photos and also extremely bloody, I did think this was strange but ultimately I thought I was in safe hands and I would take their word for it.

12 months later, the hair grew back it was patchy, with no density and implanted in lines which made it look like dolls hair., I was deeply deeply disappointed and embarrassed to the fact I put myself through the procedure and cost to receive little to no results, this made me even more self conscious than I was pre-procedure I explained this to Dr Shahmalak 12 months on. I really didn’t want to be in this position as he seemed like a nice guy. I asked to see if he would remove the transplanted hair implanted the year previous as at least before it looked natural albeit receding.

He actually agreed to redo the procedure and fill in the gaps from the first procedure free of charge, as long as I signed a disclaimer that I wouldn't make a claim against him. So whilst I didn’t have the confidence I did previously I was willing to stomach the pain and give it a second go as it felt like my only option at the time.

History repeated itself a second time in 2016 same problems, no density, lots of blood, pain and again another strange shape implanted again performed by technicians. But naively I had hope and thanked him for trying to rectify.

The hair grew back totally uneven, unnatural and looked a mess once again I again felt embarrassed and self conscious but I felt like at this point I had rolled the dice and lost, maybe I backed the wrong horse or maybe it was just me!

2021 now and four years after my second procedure with Crown Clinic I decided to take the plunge and reach out to some Doctors who some friends of my friends had used with great results.

They advised that it would be tricky considering how much of the Donor area Crown Clinic had used from the back of my head, but they were hopeful they could get a further 2,000 grafts best case, they agreed that the job/s that had been done previously we're really really badly done.

So I took the plunge again yesterday with a different clinic and it was absolutely worlds apart, I paid £6,000, it was completed solely by the Doctor in Charge, you can see the difference in density, lack of blood and the shape is natural.

They also advised that Crown Clinic never took 2,000 grafts, maybe 2,000 hairs but not grafts each time. This is evidenced by the photos taken yesterday, they actually managed to extract 2,400 Grafts (5,600 hairs) roughly each graft has 2/3 hairs on.

The difference between Crown Clinics 2,000 grafts and The Clinic I went to yesterday is crazy and they said I had been lied to when I was paying per graft and 40% of the work was done roughly. They couldn't believe the shape that they implanted, the unnatural lines and so much bleeding.

I really cannot believe the difference and I am so angry that firstly I massively overpaid for what I received first time around, secondly the job that was done was totally below a standard you would expect and thirdly they wasted a lot of my donor area to hamper the ability of further treatments by a different Doctor.

The Photos I have attached are of my 1st Procedure / 2nd Procedure and the one I had done yesterday. You decide and make an informed decision yourselves I don't like leaving reviews like this, but I would avoid at all costs and feel it's a moral obligation to make people aware.

My first consultation with Dr Shahmalak filled me with confidence.
The whole experience was on a very friendly, honest and professional level.
This continued throughout the whole procedure. Where I found the whole crown nursing team to have the same high levels as Dr Shahmalak.
I would recommend anyone looking to have a FUE hair treatment procedure to consult with crown clinic as my whole experience was faultless from start to finish.

I paid a substantial amount for a consultation (which was basically just drawing a line on my forehead) many years ago. I was promised to surgery from a central London building. The building was grand but the rooms looked bare and rented. The assistants were uneducated & looked unprofessional. I contacted them many times only to be told repeatedly that they were trying to hasten my appointment & excuses were made continually. I never actually got an appointment, surgery or a refund. I had read they were leading experts. However they lacked any proper organisation. For the large fee I paid all I received were promises of surgery that never happened. I call that a scam.

I did my hair transplants august 2020. 3k graft for 12k. Quite expensive ,sadly it’s doesn’t work like that ,More than 50% failed . I shouldn’t recommend anyone .

Hi, I hd a procedure done in late 2016/early 2017 and to cut a long story short the experience was awful.

I initially booked for a consultation as the dr had good reviews and there had been a number of celebrities testimonials (which I later found out due to the fact they had their HT for free.).

The clinic is 2x or 3x more expensive than reputable competitors even as close as Manchester City Centre.

I found the Dr. to be highly patronising, ill-mannored and quite frankly rude. He clearly didn't care for my welfare or the outcome. As part of the assessment he drew a new hairline which could only be described as a zig zag drawn by a 5 year old child...... utter disbelief. When I questioned the hairline I was met with hostility and dismissive comments. I agree expectations should be managed however this was just ridiculous. I felt the Dr. Was stuck up and even had the audacity to mentioned he drove a Austin Martin as if that had any inportance!

As my hairloss was getting worse I decided I would stick with Crown Clinic however when I returned and the topic of my hairline resurfaced it nearly resulted in a full blown argument. Exactly what one needs when anxiety is already sky high and talking about somthing that is emotional.

My advice is to stay clear of this strange practice situated near Manchester Airport.

Quick review following my recent engagement with Crown Clinic.

I spoken with a few clinics based upon online research of surgeons. Crown Clinic seemed the most professional, with the staff (Joanne) being very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable.

Unfortunately due to personal circumstances, I couldn’t go ahead with the procedure, but Crown Clinic were understanding.

I would have no hesitation in using this company in the future.

I approached this surgery initially as I had done my research and found that the Dr here was very credible in his line of work. I also noticed a handful of celebrities had work done with this doctor and was convinced that this was the place to go. Unfortunately my custom appeared entirely unwelcome by a very abrupt reception. With the work I had seen I decided to by pass the very rude and patronising staff who held no consideration for my surgery or even my state of mind booking the extremely high priced surgeon. After paying one hundred pounds for a consoltation I was continually met with rude members of staff. I was almost in disbelief of how the lady there was talking down to me. I took some time out as I thought maybe they were very busy and that's why they felt the need to treat me like absolute dirt! I called again being as nice as possible and was able to see the doctor for another consultation without charge. As my hair was getting worse and I had my self set on crown clinic I travelled 4 hours to go again. This time I was greeted by the same woman who was a little nicer but spent the whole consoltation being extremely arrogant and talking about their links with Boris Johnson instead of caring for me and my problem. Overall I left the experience feeling like utter rubbish because thier staff are just very involved in themselves and show no care towards me as a customer or a patient. Avoid it if you want a genuine experience. Also they charge 4x more than other very credible competitors. I was quoted £12,000 for 2,500 grafts and a side of absolute rudeness to go with. Another big problem with them was related to a room. I asked if they provide a room as I would be travelling 4 hours on my own and I had nothing but grief and disrespectful smart answers over it and still I'm in shock. Even doing this review one of the questions relates to the mandatory same sex rooms that they should supply but I was told to go book something myself and its not their responsibility..... And in the final quote they added thousands of pounds on top for a cheap local room. Seriously rude shocking behaviour and definitely will ruin the good name of the doctor there
