I am utterly exhausted and disgusted by Health Shield’s obstructive claims process. I submitted a claim for an expensive string prescription pair of glasses from Vision Express, and it has turned into an absolute nightmare.

I have had to go back and forth with their claims team multiple times. On my third separate attempt—after already providing my order confirmation and the formal finance loan contract, and my bank statements to prove I am paying for them—they suddenly changed the goalposts. Now, they are refusing to pay out unless I hunt down a separate copy of my optical prescription which they have never needed before when claiming. Why wasn't this asked for during the first or second interaction?

It feels like they purposefully delay, overcomplicate, and invent bureaucratic hurdles just to avoid paying out legitimate claims. Their communication is abysmal, and they have zero regard for their customers' time deeming the small contribution worthless. If you want a health cash plan that actually supports you instead of making you fight through endless red tape, look elsewhere. Appalling company.

Health Shield try to make it as difficult as possible to try and claim, and the system the filled with issues. There's much better providers out there at a good price who don't try make things difficult.

Went for a specialist consultation earlier this year and claim was accepted no problem. 6 months later, same consultation, same consultant, claim rejected. Called customer service and explained who said they would raise it but shortly followed with a tough luck email, out of pocket nearly £100 despite following the exact same process and evidence as last time. I have updated this to 3* because they have now honoured it as a gesture of good will. However not the best experience.

My total experience from start to finish went smoothly , from going to the dentist and the opticians uploading my receipts and payments received speedily
