Ample parking, and without the automotive juggling required at some garages. although reception is upstairs, its a great place to be, with a fridge full of drinks (charity donation optional) friendly professional staff. No bad news on my Transit’s MOT, but if there had been, I suspect it would have been delivered with compassion and a reassuring bedside manner. Keen to use them again.

I would first like to say, before I write this review, that the team at HiQ Tyres and Autocare were extremely understanding in fixing my vehicle quickly so I could use it to catch my flight. However, that is all I can say was good.

This is a short story of events. I searched for a well‑rated mechanics to put my vehicle through its MOT — one with good reviews that wouldn’t con me like some garages do. This is why I chose this specific garage based on the reviews, although I didn’t really look at the negative ones beforehand.

After putting my vehicle in for an MOT, it came back as a fail. I was told I could no longer use the vehicle, even though I still had a month of MOT time left and no dangerous faults just major. It failed on upper and lower control arms, headlight bulbs that didn’t match, and four‑wheel balancing with a replacement side repeater. I was quoted £1,014 for the work to be carried out. I needed the vehicle by midday Friday as I was flying out of the country, so I agreed for them to carry out the work.

However, the next day, on reflection, I asked for the invoice to be sent to me so I could ask other garages if this was a fair price. Two independent garages were shocked at how much I was charged. The parts came to just over £200, and the labour was nearly £650, plus VAT, totalling £1,014. According to the quote, the work would take 9.5 hours, but the garages I spoke to said it wouldn’t even come close to that and that the labour was overpriced. I have been over charged on all jobs by what seems like adding hours onto my invoice.

Not to mention, when the front headlight bulbs didn’t match, they charged me for two new bulbs, costing even more money, because they said it would be easier than finding a bulb that matched my already working ones.

The worst thing was when I collected the car the quote rises and the side repeater prices had risen making the quote more expensive then it originally was now stating roughly £1061

I am absolutely disgusted with how much this has cost, and I feel like I had no option but to get the work carried out with them. After looking at the reviews, it seems most of the negative ones were based on MOTs and the costs that followed.

This was my first time with this garage, and it will be my last. If you’re booking in for an MOT, please avoid, unless you want to be paying over the odds for work you can get done elsewhere for a fraction of the cost. I have never written a review before but I thought this was justified and proportionate to what I’ve had to pay and I am hoping others will see this and think twice before putting there vehicle in for repairs.

Kind friendly professional. Did my MOT and service when my normal garage let me down at short notice. Work completed quickly and efficiently. Kept in touch throughout. Small gift of air freshener and sweets left on the passenger seat. Could not fault anything about the garage. Will certainly recommend it.

Excellent service. Appointment booked, seen on time, took as long as they said. Needed a new tyre fitted within 45 minutes.

Had a clutch replaced on a Citroen Bilingo and charged me an arm and a leg. Almost £1100 and was stuck for all options as that’s where the tow truck recommend and was far from home. Took advantage of a customer when they’re at their lowest. And then charged me 8.5 hrs for replacement (which seems way to long) @£165hr from memory which I think is ridiculous. I’m a plant mechanic myself back in Australia so have experience in the industry.
Had multiple garages say £700 on average.

Incredible service from start to end.
Rang up first thing on a Saturday to see if they could fit me 2 new rear tyres, within an hour I was there and new tyres fitted at very reasonable price. The bloke on reception was top notch and had some good chats whilst waiting. Will definitely use them again and wouldn’t hesitate for a second to recommend them.

Use HiQ every year for MOT. Staff are always helpful. The work is done quickly and reasonably priced. They always do their best to keep the costs down and the work is excellent. Highly recommend.

I've used this branch for 4 or 5 years now with a good service. On Monday, 17th Aug, I took car in for MOT & service. Failed MOT on washer jet alignment, 2 indicator light bulbs wrong colour & 1 rear fog lamp light not working (plus advisory on 1 tyre) so I authorised to go ahead with the washer jets & the 3 light bulbs but to leave the Advisory tyre just now. I then got another call to say problem with rear fog lamp as the entire light cluster needed replacement as wiring had gone. He said not cheap - at least £600+ for the unit alone plus labour. It didn't sound right to me so I said to leave that lamp work & I'd collect car, maybe sell or scrap. When I got there, they tried again to convince me to have it done by then it was '£900 worth it to keep me on the road' (I am a disabled female) but I still declined. Very upset, angry & disappointed that I felt like they were scamming me. Then I took car to Halfords Marsh Mills, where a (female) mechanic fitted a new bulb, checked the unit & tested it. Works perfectly £10:49 cost & took less than 15 minutes! Next morning I took car to Halfords again to re-do MOT. Passed with flying colours! So the moral of this is: Don't assume what the garage tell you is true - get 2 or 3 quotes from different places! By getting a 2nd opinion, I've just saved myself from a £600+ rip off! As against £10:49 (2nd MOT was free!) Shame on you, HiQ. So very disappointed.

Very knowledgable and helpful staff arranged appointments for me quickly and the work was carried to a high standard and for a fair price. Glad I found them and I will definitely use them again in the future.

At last I have found a professional company. Lost count over the years of having tyres fitted and finding that the wheel nuts have been done up with an air gun and not correctly torqued up.
As usual I got the wife's car home and checked the wheel torque settings!!
Bingo, they were all correct. Thank you guys.
Had 4 tyres fitted to my own car last year and these guys had also torqued them up correctly then as well so obviously the norm for them.
For those who don't know,it is very important that wheel nuts be done up correctly to avoid damage to the fixings and potential loss.
