The JW Lees hot roast of the day…

The JW Lees hot roast of the day sandwich features carved roasted meat served on warm ciabatta, accompanied by traditional trimmings and a side jug of onion gravy...

two dry slices of ham on a burger bun with margarine on a very thick jug of instant gravy and a small bucket of frozen chips. If you ask anybody what traditional trimmings are they would not say chips.

£12.95 - when the meal must cost £2 to make. The words are misleading and the menu should clearly state what the meal is.

Rip off

Email sent to their customer services.

I attended one of your hostelries namely the Aviator at Woodford this evening and was actually horrified at the cost of a can of 440ml Guinness 0% being charged the extortionate price of £6:05. This is nothing more than a "rip off" when I normally pay between £4 to £4:50 in other pubs and they are 538ml cans too.
I noticed that normal draught Guinness was on sale at £5:80 a pint and given tax on alcohol is by ABV, how can you justify charging this exorbitant price for a drink that is virtually alcohol free at 0.05%.
Customers are trying to be responsible by drinking non alcoholic beers due to drink driving laws but it would seem that you're quite happy to penalise your customers for being responsible whilst you profit from this.
Had I known what the cost of it was, I would never have purchased the drink and what's more I have no wish to patronise your hostelries if you "fleece" your customers as such.
I was absolutely disgusted and needless to say only stayed for one drink which was a shame as the venue was very pleasant and the staff very accommodating.

Their response from customer services:

Good morning David,

Thank you for contacting us regarding your concerns about the pricing of Guinness and Guinness 0%.

I have spoken with our Audit Team and can confirm the following prices:

Guinness: £6.80 per pint
Guinness 0%: £6.30 per pint
Guinness 0% (440ml): £6.05
Our prices are set in line with inflation and the costs involved in running a pub. That said, we do appreciate and understand your frustration regarding this.

Kind regards,

The Belmore at Sale

I had to travel for a family Bereavement and was so lucky to stay in this hotel. I'm a wheelchair user and the accessible room was one of the best I've ever stayed in. It has everything you could need and as I travelled alone, I was able to stay and cope alone. The bed was at the right height so I could transfer with ease. The bathroom was great, from the chair in shower to all the rails
The staff from the general manager Dave and his wife Lisa, to the cleaners are fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant menu is a wide range of dishes and cooked to perfection. I can not wait to return. Well worth a trip to Manchester

Runs our local pub into the ground

Runs our local pub into the ground. We have only one pub in our entire rural area, the Ship Inn in Wincle in the Peak District National Park. There have been 5 different managers in the past 8 years. It's shut now, again, for the forseeable. And if experience serves, will be shut again for the next 3 months. JW Lees know it's in a hotspot for walkers and tourists, so charge incoming managers a fortune, then gouge them for rent, and their overpriced barrels of ale. Successive managers make the best of it with just about every pub-based event they can think of, but due to the extortionate costs Lees charge their managers, no-one can make a viable go of the place. Which is a shame. It's a really lovely historic pub in an area that's been described as 'achingly pretty' by just about everyone. But it's now closed yet again, with the last managers leaving after a scant 16 months. JW Lees couldn't care less, and it affects everyone locally, and the owners of holiday lets who can't rely on or recommend the only pub in the entire catchment area.

Lovely meal

Lovely meal, friendly staff and great location set right on the river Dee!

Saturday is 20% off steak or gammon so £20.76 or £13.16 so good value and food was tasty and served well with accompaniments.

Beer At £6.25 for San Miguel and £6.60 for Guinness is Ott.

Waitress think called Sally Anne was fun, efficient and we had a great rapport with her.

Music and ambience really good too.

Thank you!

Horrendous attitude to family meal

Had a full family meal with friends, and 2 children aged 7 and one aged 5. After finishing the food which was okay but average and small portiions the restaurant took over an hour and a half to clear the plates. The children clearly got bored and made “potions” with the uncleared glasses using water, apple juice and minor quants of salt and pepper. The landlady took exception to this giving dirty looks and later apologising but advising the had to clean the dishes (namely the ones they hadn’t cleaned for an hour and a half anyway and would have had to cleaned anyway). Apparently the salt and pepper made it more difficult to clean! OMG. After complaining the staff then advised our children has wasted salt and pepper which when questioning if we added extra to our meals they advised they “monitor” salt and pepper usage. Okay!! Good one! Great staff training and what a lovely atmosphere to spend your free time within. We look forward to a reply from the general manager who was responding for the decision making (which is evident in all previous reviews) rather than an reply from senior management at the organisation in order to improve they systems and provide an independent review and assessment.

A little gem

We visited The Groes Inn at Conwy on our way to Anglesey.
We were not disappointed, we both had blackened Cajun chicken with fries and homemade coleslaw. One of the nicest meals that I have had in ages. The pub dates back to the 1500's and most of the old features have been kept as the building is listed.
Great , friendly service, super setting and dog friendly.
Parking very easy too. We will be back.

I visited JW Lee's "spread Eagle" in Blackburn in November 2023 will my elderly uncle and aunt, the food was appalling and one of the dishes should never have left the kitchen as it was badly burnt, and thy tried to change for something that I didn't have, the waiter wasn't really interested in his job and had a ' I don't care attitude ', I left them an unpleasant review and I was contacted by them regarding this matter, eventually I accepted a re-visit to this establishment on behalf of my elderly uncle and aunt. I never got a reply, Since then I have contacted them yet again to accept the offer of returning for a free meal for 2 people so as give them a chance to redeem themselves. They still haven't replied to me and it's now 2 months since the unpleasant experience with them. Their offers are empty, the food is appalling, the service is extremely poor and NOT responding to disgruntled customers is BAD for future business. Head office needs to do a shake up across the board regarding hospitality training before they end up with no buisness to run.customers

Disgusting customer care at the Stanneylands hotel in Wilmslow. My daughter was staying prior to her wedding and she was chased out of her room in full wedding dress because rules are rules yet they had dozens of other rooms to prepare for the next days guests . Miserable manager on reception. Horrible

Parking Scam

A relative of mine who is terminally ill attended the Doctors next to their Olde Boars Head pub in Middleton Manchester. The Doctor's car park was full, and at the time the pub was closed due to lockdown. As they are disabled and had a blue badge, they parked in the unused pub car park for 10 minutes. Days later, they received a £60 parking ticket. Neither the pub or the parking company have any authority to enforce this and it's also illegal to book someone with a blue badge. The staff at the pub refused to help. Will not use them again.

Beware!

Beware! I booked their hotel in Llandudno in order to attend the Coral snooker tournament. The snooker tournament was called off at the last minute because of government recommendations regarding coronavirus. In a time when we are all trying to be sympathetic towards one another, these greedy people kept my money, no refund! Sympathetic, more like pathetic.
