After 30 year shopping at MEC - disappointed
Have been a customer for over 30 years, shopping for myself, then our kids and for gifts throughout the years. These past two years the staff and managers I have dealt with are dismissive, rude, and just not interested in providing positive customer service, it seems. Two weeks ago “ Cheryl” the staff member just wanted to argue and was very dismissive about a product issue I had, when I told the manager, she smiled and walked away ….! I am dealing with them online now. I am just disappointed more than anything.
I hope they use the negative feedbacks to improve their customer service and prevent losing customers.
Outstanding customer serviceI at the Burlington store
I went back to my local MEC store in Burlington.. I had a MEC brand jacket, the lining had deteriorated.. Crystal explained the upkeep on there outdoor wear.. It had been several years since I was as active wearing this jacket.. Loved it.. MEC replaced it..
Very hard for a long term member to identify with the new company.
I have been a MEC member since 1987. On a visit to the Toronto store yesterday I couldn't find any cotton shorts and was told they sell only "tech" stuff. Somehow I have survived a lifetime of outdoor adventures with a mix of tech and natural fibres - many of the clothes coming from MEC. I think we should be given a choice.
Around the store there are now display panels celebrating the early years of the old coop. So not only has the new company appropriated the old logo, it's appropriated its history as well. The new MEC probably thinks it's all part of the "brand" they purchased, but those pioneering folks had very different ideas and objectives to those of the present day company. One of the panels said the founders wanted to provide low cost gear - not sure a $52 Yeti mug is consistent with that. I'm sure many of them will feel betrayed, as did I as a long term member.
shoes were worn
After waiting ten days for delivery ! I finally received the shoes. BUT .. they were worn and dirty.
Sent the CSR pictures of the dirty shoes (obviously worn outside) and asked for a significant discount or to return them without any inconvenience. A few days later they replied with a 30% discount in the form of a MEC gift card or to return them. Who would want to shop online at MEC again after this experience. Wouldn't think a store with higher price point items would resell worn shoes at full price. Oh well. It is only a pair of $200 shoes.
Can I give it no stars like the no bike…
Can I give it no stars like the no bike they sold me? Ordered $3K bike after they told me it was in stock. They charged CC right away, a week later, after I had called regarding status of pick up, they tell me it still needs to be assembled...be patient.
A week later they tell me the one in stock is damaged and they cant repair it so they need to order another from their Ottawa store.
Another week later they tell me the second one is also damaged and they cant repair it.
Seriously, if they cant get two brand new bikes working, heaven help you if you brought them in one that was actually damaged to fix.
I asked them to follow up with Cannon, the manufacture, but that was like a month ago and still no follow up. My riding season is off to a great start...thanks for nothing MEC.

Went to Mac to try and get them to fix a coat with the zipper problem and they told me because the coat was old that they had no obligation to fix it that the company has changed and their lifetime. Guarantee for repairs is crap.

Rock solid guarantee my ass ,,, tried to exchange my broken leather man and was told to deal with the manufacturer directly,,,,, if that’s the case I might as well bought it directly in the first place , staff advised me that the store loses to much money having to return defective products, mec has gone down the tubes , glorified night market
Had a great experience
Had a great experience buying a winter jacket for myself. Always loved MEC. Was encouraged to buy a jacket from them since my son bought winter jacket there a while ago and was saying it was very warm. Was concern after reading bad reviews that the quality is not the same, but trusted my sons experience and the fact it was good, they had a good sale as well. So I took the leap. And I was not dissapointed. The winter jacket arrived in time and was everything I hoped for, very warm, windproof and good quality. PS. I just noticed MEC.ca is listed in Vehicles &Transportation category but it has to be listed in Shopping or Sports category it is a business that sells outdoor recreation gear and clothing, just a heads up for Trustpilot, if you will change the category people will be able to find it more easily and leave more reviews. Date of experience is 25 of January, but the date kept changing after I saved it.
Pretty Happy with MEC
have bought from MEC consistently for the last few years - is amazing... i know they are facing some quality issues but am happy with most of the things we have bought from them for the most part.
Before they were "bought out"
Before they were "bought out", from a membership store, they were pretty decent, but now. Total garbage chinesium dealers. Half the stuff isn't even in stock, just a ghost of what used to be a store. the Pandemic killed Mec.ca, its zombie lives on.
Not impressed
Not impressed. Ordered a couple of items online, to be picked up in the store. About 12 hours later I receive an email from MEC saying an item was not in the store so I couldn't pick it up and they don't know when the item will arrive. I called to cancel that item and get a refund and they said no refund; not until the item eventually arrives in the store will they issue a refund. Don't buy from this company - not honest. Better to go to the Trail Shop or elsewhere in Canada.

Great outdoors gear with lots of great sales. I ordered a puffer jacket from their online store and got free shipping. The package arrived the next day.
Terrible experience ordering a…
Terrible experience ordering a Christmas gift. They wouldn't let me cancel the order immediately after it was placed. The item was $133.97 in my cart and ended up being $179.99 at checkout. Order hasn't been processed or shipped yet but they still refused to cancel it. Now I'll have to wait for it to be delivered, and then wait 5-6 weeks for them to process the refund after that. What a ridiculous process.
Climbing Gear-Vancouver (sales person-Parisa)
I went to the MEC store on 2nd Ave in Vancouver to buy some climbing gear. I am brand new to mountaineering and had no idea as to the equipment I needed. I asked the staff for some help and Parisa stepped forward. Was I a lucky customer. Parisa is an experienced climber and was so knowledgeable about all of the equipment that I needed. Here customer service was excellent and she made sure I purchased the right gear and that it fit properly. I would have been lost without her guidance. MEC is very lucky to have this person on their staff. Thanks Parisa!
Hiking boots warranty
I am giving this a good review because MEC stood by their warranty. Salomon Quest 4 boots bought more than 1 year ago started to separate at the rubber covered toe area after about 100km on the trail. MEC replaced them. The problem is really with Salomon's design.
MEC no longer stands behind their products…
My zipper broke on a very expensive MEC brand down jacket that was a few years old and in pretty much brand new shape. The old mountain equipment coop would have repaired or replaced the jacket in a heart beat. This new taken over MEC wouldn't do anything for me. I will never buy from them again. You will get much better backed gear from atmosphere or any other mountain store as they carry brands that will warranty and stand behind their products. Stay away from MEC!!!!
Buyer Beware!
Buyer Beware!! Bought a pair of pants online, and wanted to return them due to poor quality. After working a 12 hour shift, and driving around Halifax for 20 minutes looking for a parking spot finally got into the store. Was promptly told they would only give me a gift card, not a cash refund. That "fact" was not made readily available when I ordered them. So much for the "Rock Solid" guarantee refund. What a joke, no wonder they are bankrupt. After 25 years of membership, that is the last nickel they will get out of me. At least Atmosphere has easy parking, and refunds, great sales, and is where I normally buy outdoor/sports related toys. And will be from now on. Would give 0 stars if possible...To top it off, some smiley manager guy who needed a shower badly kept calling me "sir". Was like a weird time warp back to the 1970's...so much for the whole pronoun thing....
Impossible to return
I sent them an email three weeks ago regarding return and got no reply. I sent another email to follow-up with them a week ago and got no reply as well. The rock solid guarantee is just a scam. They will never let you return anything.
