6–8 Week Estimate Turned Into 16 Weeks
I would strongly advise anyone considering Mercia Movers International to think very carefully before using them.
Our shipment was collected on 4 July in the UK and we were given an estimated 6–8 week delivery timeframe to Cyprus. In reality, the container did not arrive until 21 October – roughly 16 weeks later. Throughout the process we had to repeatedly chase Mercia for updates. At one stage we discovered that our shipment had not even left the UK weeks after collection because the container had not filled yet, something we were never proactively informed about.
Tracking showed the container travelling all over the place – Rotterdam, Morocco, Egypt – and then sitting in Port Said for almost two weeks before continuing to Cyprus. Each time we asked for clarification we were told the same thing: that groupage shipments are only “approximate” and that the routing and delays were out of their control.
What made this especially stressful is that I was pregnant during the entire move and had specifically raised concerns about timing because our shipment included essential baby items such as our pram and car seat. Despite this, Mercia continued to repeat that nothing was guaranteed and refused to take any responsibility for the increasingly unrealistic timeframe. In the end, I gave birth on 8 October and our shipment still hadn’t arrived.
When the delivery finally happened on 21 October, the situation got worse. Several items were damaged, including fragile items (jars and vases) and a piece of furniture (a mirrored wardrobe cupboard). The local delivery company in Cyprus, Orbit, documented everything properly: they photographed the damage during unpacking, completed the damage report forms, and had me sign them at the time.
Given that this documentation was completed with their appointed delivery agent, I assumed the claims process would be handled between the companies. However, after hearing nothing from Mercia, I had to contact them myself (while caring for a newborn) and was then asked to send photos and complete claim forms again, as if the documentation done during delivery had never happened.
After all the delays and the damage, the response from Mercia has essentially been to refer back to their terms and conditions and state that compensation is limited to £40 per box or furniture item, because we declined additional insurance. While this may be in the small print, it feels like a convenient way to avoid accountability after a service that fell dramatically short of expectations.
Overall, the experience was extremely stressful at a time when we were relocating internationally and preparing for the birth of our baby. The key issues were:
• Delivery taking 16 weeks instead of the quoted 6–8 weeks
• Poor communication – we constantly had to chase for updates
• Delays before the shipment even left the UK that we were not informed about
• Damage to items on arrival
• A disorganised claims process, despite the damage being documented at delivery
Moving internationally is already a stressful experience, and unfortunately Mercia Movers made it far more difficult than it needed to be. Based on our experience, I would not use them again.
Big mistake
We choseMercia Movers after extensive research and due diligence, deliberately paying around £1,000 more than the nearest competitor for peace of mind based on their reputation. Sadly, that trust was completely misplaced.
We paid for a full international packing service for a UK–Italy move. On packing day, we actively supported the crew to help complete the job in one day rather than two. As part of this, several items were taken back to the depot unwrapped or loosely loaded, with explicit assurances that they would be properly wrapped, added to the inventory, and shipped onward. We accepted this in good faith.
The outcome was devastating. Around 25 items arrived destroyed, damaged beyond repair, broken, or missing. Even worse, the inventory was incomplete and ambiguous, leaving us distraught over one particularly important item that been in our family for over 60 years. I specifically raised concerns about sending this item due to its sentimental value and was reassured by the packing team that it would be carefully packed. The item was taken into their care, never delivered, and does not appear on the inventory.
We are also missing one of a matching pair of bar stools, again packed in the UK, not delivered, and not listed on the inventory.
What has made this experience truly unacceptable is not just the loss and damage, but the company’s attitude afterwards. Communication was slow, dismissive, and at times outright insulting. We were effectively told that because items were not on the inventory, insurers would treat them as “not collected” - despite those items being physically removed from our home by their team. Responsibility was repeatedly deflected onto “limited liability” insurance, with no meaningful acknowledgement or apology for missing items or procedural failures.
At no point did we feel listened to, supported, or even treated with basic empathy. The suggestion that our account of events was unreliable, simply because the crew “did not recall” conversations, was particularly upsetting.
We have accepted a minimal insurance payout purely to close the process, but we are now reporting the company as a matter of principle.
If you are considering an international move and care about accountability, clear inventories, and respectful customer service - think very carefully before choosing Mercia Movers
Do not use for move to Australia.
We recently moved to Australia and trusted Mercer with the move. It has been an absolute disaster.
While positioned as a premium removalist- What is not disclosed is they use much cheaper third party inexperienced removalist companies to do the move.
These removalist pack all your product very poorly- think no covering on mattresses, marble wrapped in paper, no protection on wooden tables, candles packed with cushions.
As a result of the third party we suffered significant damage to multiple items due to the negligence. Also none of the boxes or items had been correctly labelled on packing meaning the unpack took significantly longer as the agent in Australia could not place in appropriate room
Of course despite the agreed negligence from those third party suppliers Mercer (who you pay) take no responsibility.
I recommend strongly if considering a move to Australia or International you do not use these agent unless you are prepared for a sub par outsourced experience.

If you’d like to received your items in one piece i’d suggest using someone else, if however you are looking for a way to turn your wooden furniture into firewood at vast cost- you’ve found the right people.

I used their service to ship 8 boxes from London to Santiago de Chile. 1 box went missing and was never found. They have absolutely no clue about when it went missing. They blame their commercial partners for this (UPS). More than a year has passed and I'm still waiting to hear from them about the payment of whatever is covered by their standard liability insurance. I am unimpressed by their service, and definitely an awful customer service. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!
Do not use this company
Do not use this company. If they lose or break something (which tends to happen on transcontinental moves) they will do everything to not give you a cent. We had bed legs arrive but no bed frame and they said they can’t cover it because they can’t confirm it was in their care. Use another company!
Mercia Movers Issues
Our dealings with Mercia started very well with a competitive price and organising moving out, storage and moving us to France. The lads moving us and in were very polite, professional and friendly.
We then experienced issues on delivering to us as they wanted to charge us extra for shuttle runs when access was easily done. 25% of our boxes that had things broken when packed with bubble wrap and loads of paper, maybe this happened back at the storage deport. We also had major damage to both doors on our American FF and a broken support in our bespoke dinning table and when questioned was told you had option to take out extra insurance. Their Public Liability insurance only covers £40 per item and our argument is that it’s in the responsibility to look after our furniture not damage it.

I recently used Mercia for my move and couldn´t be happier with the experience. From the very beginning the administrative process was seamless and productive.
The team arrived promptly, were incredibly kind and helpful, and worked in a very structured and organized way that were a credit to them all. They packed and moved everything safely and efficiently, taking great care with all of our belongings and special possessions. The entire process was handled in a timely and professional manner, and I truly appreciated their attention to detail and positive attitude.
Overall, I wouldn´t hesitate to recommend.

Mercia has been brilliant all along- from the initial quote stage to the final delivery of our international house move from UK to Spain. Simon, our coordinator, was always responsive, friendly and willing to go the extra mile to ensure everything went smoothly.
He has a wealth of knowledge about moving in general, and the UK pickup team, was incredibly friendly, professional and skilled at packing all our stuff to ensure it would travel safely. It was a pleasure to have them with us for the two days of packing. The delivery team, all went smoothly.

Choose Mercia Movers firstly competitive price & secondly reviews also bring local was a key point too. Martin was friendly efficient & did what he said he would do promptly. Chris who came out to price up the move was also a lovely person explaining how they work I felt very comfortable agreeing to use them. The 3 man team worked tirelessly & quickly hardly stopping for a break. Packing up took 1.5 days & unloaded quickly. Unfortunately there was a couple of breakages even though everything was well wrapped. This was resolved without any fuss & we received compensation within a few days. Would I choose them again? Yes.

Container to UAE
We had a slight delay with our container on day of loading, this was quickly resolved and we did not incur any additional costs as the delay was made by the shipping line MSC. overall very happy, appointed agents in UAE did a full unpack and unwrap of our items.
