I rented a Fiat 500 from Minoas Rentals in Heraklion. Even before my flight to Crete, I was contacted and informed that after landing I could simply call or send a WhatsApp message so the shuttle service could pick me up.

After we landed at Heraklion Airport and collected our luggage, I sent a quick WhatsApp message. I immediately received a reply saying they were on the way, and just 3 minutes later someone arrived to pick us up.

The pickup process itself was also completely smooth and hassle-free.

I had read in other reviews that Minoas Rentals supposedly tries to pressure customers into buying extra insurance, but that was absolutely not my experience. They did offer additional insurance (I already had full coverage with zero deductible through a reimbursement policy, so they offered an option where I wouldn’t have to pay upfront in case of damage). However, when I declined, they accepted it immediately, politely, and with a smile, no pressure at all.

Only about 30 minutes after landing, we already had our rental car, a fantastic start to our vacation!

Unfortunately, during our holiday the rear bumper of the car was slightly scratched, most likely in a parking lot while we were away, since it did not happen while driving.

When we returned the car, the staff explained everything clearly and professionally: how the damage process works, how costs would be calculated, and how I could get reimbursed through my insurance.

Then the friendly employee took an even closer look at the small scratch. There was some silver paint visible, probably from the other car that had touched ours. Together we carefully removed the paint residue and realized that the actual damage to our car was very minor. Even though a tiny mark was still visible, they told us it was fine, they would not report the damage, and we would not have to pay anything.

So I honestly cannot confirm many of the negative things I’ve read about car rentals abroad or about Minoas Rentals specifically.

My experience was absolutely perfect from start to finish, and I would highly recommend them anytime!

My son and I rented from Minoas at Chania airport at the end of this September, it was mostly uneventful until we were bumped by someone in the evening on the way back to the airport, quite late in the evening. Very worrying but all I can say Minoas were there on the phone as soon as we called and talked us through the whole process, reassured us and had us at the airport on time. The Greek person who had bumped us was also very helpful and talked to Minoas. At their office it was Joanna who dealt with us and kept us informed when we returned to the UK too, they dealt with all the insurance at no cost or hassle to us. Fantastic service from them.

I am extremely disappointed with the service provided by Rentals Minoas. We booked car hire for 20th August, scheduled for a 10:00 PM pick-up. Our flight was delayed, landing at 10:03 PM, and we were outside by 10:10 PM as instructed. However, no one was present to meet us at the airport.

We waited at the bus stop as told, only to receive a rude and abrupt phone call from an employee at 10:27 PM questioning why we hadn’t called. She was not on-site to assist, and clearly lacked basic customer service skills, which made the start of our holiday stressful and frustrating.

We were never informed that arriving after 10:00 PM would incur a €50 fine, and there was no flexibility for delayed flights. The lack of communication, poor service, and unprofessional behavior were completely unacceptable.

I would not recommend Rentals Minoas and hope the company reviews its procedures and staff training.

I recently rented a car from Minoas Rentals at Chania, and overall, it was a smooth and pleasant experience. The staff were helpful and did not pressure me into taking out extra insurance.

The only drawback was that the rental office is about a 500m walk from the airport arrivals. Not a deal-breaker, but worth noting — especially if you’re travelling with heavy luggage on a hot day. It would be better if they had some sort of on-demand mini-bus transfer service that ran between the airport and the office.

All in all, if you’re looking for competitive pricing and a decent selection of cars, then I’d definitely recommend giving Minoas Rentals a try. Just be prepared for the short stroll after landing.
