Poison a pre-existing condition???

Our dog was poisoned (unknown to us at the time). Brought him in for blood tests. Tests came back abnormal , it was suggested to get bile acid test which also came back abnormal then to get a CT scan which came back normal. We were told by pets plus us that this was a pre-existing problem therefore not covered. He is now back to himself no thanks to pets plus us. A waste of time getting insurance through them.

Incredibly fast claim reimbursement

When my dog got sick a couple of weeks ago, the cost of the vet bill was not something I had budgeted for. A charge of that amount on my credit card (and the possible interest) was terrifying. I am incredibly thankful that I have insurance with Pets Plus Us. They processed the claim and deposited the reimbursement into my bank account in less than one week.

Shady and Dishonourable!

April 1st 2025

Pets+Us is downright shady and dishonest. I have my Yorkie dog insured with them since she was born, so well over 12 years I have been paying monthly premiums for the Ultra contract package (this was the highest premium package offered at the time with the most coverage). There have been no issues.

Now, they recently told me they are dropping my Ultra contract package and replacing it with one offering lower coverage at a slightly lower premium for my now SENIOR dog. They want to charge under $100 per month and only offer a maximum of $3,000 per YEAR (instead of what I had which was $4,500 per CONDITION per year!!!
I am not in agreement as this is less coverage than I originally had paid for and agreed to.

What they're offering now is almost 4 times less coverage per year. They are basically trying to kick out older loyal customers with older dogs off their list of responsibilities. I have contacted my lawyer friend to research with her litigators what can be done to stop them from cancelling my current Ultra contract package. It is also important to note, that over the past 12 years they have ldoubled my premium amounts and also increased my deductible amounts. I feel that I have been taken for a fool. If this was an insurance for humans, this would never fly. 

Pets + Us took notes of my issues with the inferior insurance policy they are proposing. Someone is supposed to call me back to discuss this. I will give them one week to reply and act accordingly. After one week, failure to do so will trigger a lawsuit pursuit on my behalf.

Be honourable Pets + Us, do the right thing.

Look elsewhere for pet insurance

The major issue I’ve had with PetsPlusUs is their massive yearly premium increase. They have increased my premiums by 50% each year the last few years, while also increasing the deductible. On top of that I’ve had to fight with them several times after they have rejected claims that were absolutely insurable claims and not preexisting conditions.

By far the best pet insurance around!

I have had a Pets Plus Us policy for 4 years now and have made periodic claims. My pet got diagnosed with allergies and requires a medication for the foreseeable future. Pets Plus Us has covered all of my claims relating to those allergies including the medication. I have had no complaints what so ever and their agents on the phone are very pleasant and actually have a conversation with you rather than sounding like a robot reading off a script. A+ service!

Highly Recommend

I purchased a policy for my dog when he was a puppy. I am SO GRATEFUL that I purchased the policy. Pets Plus Us has been a fanstastic partner. All claims have been paid in a timely manner, per the policy terms, no surprises at all, I have never had to appeal a claim.

My dog has had some complex health issues and it has been such a relief to be able to make decisions for his care based upon what is based for him and our family vs. a financial decision.

I highly recommned Pets Plus Us and would definitely purchase again.

Don't waste your money

Don't waste your money. I haven't made a claim in 10 years until my dog fell down the stairs and injured her paw. The accident insurance wouldn't cover any vet expenses because she has arthritis, which was pre-existing. If a fall down the stairs isn't an accident, I don't know what is. Lightning strike?

Screwing over PC pet insurance customers

When they initially took over PC pet insurance, there were no major issues. They recently told us they are dropping the old PC plans and offered lower coverage at a very high price for my senior dog. They want to charge over $100 per month and are only offering a pool of $3000 per year, which is less coverage than we originally had. Our existing plan provided $1500 per condition for a little over $30 per month, so if I claimed for multiple conditions, I could end up getting back more than $3K. What they're offering now is almost 4 times more expensive. They are basically trying to kick PC customers with older dogs off their plan.

scummy insurance company

They will not cover anything that they consider a pre existing condition. The breed of dog you have almost is guaranteed to be excluded from coverage based on the breed characteristics. I have a dachshund who injured her back playing and they won't cover her because the breed is prone to IVDD. If you have a shitzhu, beagle, German shepherd, lahsa apso, Basset Hound or other breed that could get IVDD, they will not cover anything. Absolute scam. Should have just saved the money myself.

Canceling senior pet policies

Disgusting company! We've been with Pets Plus Us for over 12 years and I get an email today my policy is being cancelled because it's "outdated". Now that my dog is a senior they aren't making money off her anymore, so they cancel the plans offering us a more expensive plan with less benefits.

They advertise 4Life Guarantee! "Our promise to you". The only reason we stayed with them.

BEWARE! THEY WILL DO THIS TO YOU EVENTUALLY!

My Vet submitted an underwriting appeal claim Dec 18 2024. We heard nothing until I chased Jan 28th 2025. The result was a letter that did not address the issue - I suspect an AI letter

Avoid This Company – Terrible Experience

This insurance company has been incredibly frustrating to deal with. They don’t respond to emails, even though they recommend this as a way to communicate. When you call, they give you the runaround, and the information from one manager contradicts what another told me just days earlier.

I paid premiums for six months to insure my two healthy cats. Both have all necessary international documentation, including microchips, passports, vaccines, and veterinary certificates. After six months, I took one of my cats to the vet for an ear infection and advice on food, as the cat had vomited three times in one week. The veterinarian explicitly noted in the medical file that vomiting is “not unusual.” The issue resolved entirely after switching food, which is also documented in the file.

Despite this, the company claimed I hadn’t provided the “correct” medical documents—even though the documents I provided fully complied with the requirements outlined in their User Guide. I sent all required documentation when I enrolled and clearly stated, “If you need anything else, please contact me.” They never contacted me. Instead, six months later, they retroactively canceled my policy and promised a refund. It’s now been over three weeks, and I still haven’t received my money.

To make matters worse, they created new policies for my cats and labeled everything from that vet visit—including notes from the anamnesis (not even a diagnosis)—as pre-existing conditions. For example, they listed:
“Vomiting / Emesis and associated conditions”
Seriously? Vomiting is a natural behavior for cats (e.g., regurgitating hairballs). It’s also a symptom of countless possible conditions. By labeling it a pre-existing condition, they’re essentially trying to exclude everything.

This company doesn’t provide insurance—they provide excuses to deny coverage. Avoid them at all costs.

While I appreciate your effort to be transparent, my experience with your company tells a different story - poor communication and inconsistent guidance from your team.

Despite providing all required documentation upfront and offering to send more if needed, my policy was canceled retroactively, causing unnecessary stress. Labeling such a general symptom as a pre-existing condition is a blatant attempt to limit coverage arbitrarily. This is not what I expect from an insurance company that markets itself as supportive and reliable.

It has also been over three weeks since you promised a refund, yet I am still waiting.
Transparency means following through on your promises in a timely manner.

I urge you to review how your practices affect customers and act responsibly.

Literally the worst company ever

Literally the worst company ever. DO NOT USE THEM. We’ve been out of our portal for over a year trying to get it fixed and they just ignore us. Keep saying reset your password but it never works. Impossible to get a hold of and when trying to change our payment card they just keep saying they never received it even though the agent confirmed they changed it.

FUYEZ CET ASSUREUR COMME LA PESTE!!! Ils annulent mon contrat de 6 ans parce qu’ils decident qu’ils n’offrent plus le plan que j’avais!!!

En 2016 j’étais avec PC assurances. Ils ont été acheté par pets plus us en 2018. À ce moment on m’avait assuré que mon contrat resterait le même avec les mêmes couvertures et conditions et ce POUR TOUTE LA VIE DE MON ANIMAL. En effet pets plus us aime bien se vanter que le contrat est garantie pour toute la vie de votre animal alors que c’est faux! Depuis 2018 que je suis avec eux et là alors que mon chien à 10 ans, ils ANNULENT MON CONTRAT, parce qu’ils ont décidé de ne plus offrir le plan que j’avais avec eux depuis 2018 (5000$ par accident et par maladie par année que je payais 115$ par mois). Ils m’offrent à la place 3000$ total par année pour 75$ par mois!!! Donc je passe d’une couverture de 5000$ par accident et par maladie par année à 3000$ TOTAL POUR TOUT ACCIDENT ET MALADIE qui pourraient survenir dans l’année. Et le pire dans tout ça c’est que je n’ai même pas l’option de payer plus par mois pour avoir une meilleure couverture, c’est 3000$ de couverture pour 75$ par mois ou bien rien du tout!!! Contrat garanti pour toute la vie de votre chien?!? Cest de la BS!!!

prompt easy efficient

They did what they said they would do and made the claim process easy (the animal hospital did all the paperwork) only had to worry about my dogs health not claims forms.

I strongly recommend Pets Plus Us

The portal is easy to use and they typically get back to me faster then the time suggested. It's nice knowing that I do not have to worry about the cost of care needed for my crazy GSP and can focus on supporting her health needs and getting her better. I appreciate Pets Plus Us very much from ease of the website and submitting claims to the piece of mind I get when I am unexpectedly at the vets.
