After the owner of another van (booked through a different site) had to cancel the day before our trip due to genuine reasons, I was in a panic trying to find a replacement. The owner of Vanilla Pod messaged me via WhatsApp at 10.20 pm, and I replied within two minutes explaining that I had already accepted a booking from another camper van site.

However, I soon realised that full payment for the Vanilla Pod had still been taken. I contacted the owner immediately, who told me to get in touch with Quirky Campers (QC). Initially, QC were helpful and advised that a refund would be at the owner’s discretion. I passed this on to the owner, who then blocked me and insisted all further communication go via email. Since then, there has been no communication at all from the owner.

QC refunded their own booking fee after I explained the situation, but I am still over £370 out of pocket. Despite their policy stating refunds are at the owner’s discretion, I was refused the chance to leave a review — even though I paid for a service I never received.

Terrible service from the owner of Vanilla Pod, and I would not recommend Quirky Campers, who need to seriously review their terms and conditions so that others don’t get caught out in the same way.

Our experience with Steve the EV has been amazing, you have everything you need. I believe Olivia has done a great job with Steve as the van is fully equipped and you only need to enjoy it. Water and electricity is running very good as well as heating which is so important in these cold months. We spend and wonderful weekend in Herforshire so you can use a single charge from Leicester to Hereford, but if this is your first time driving a electric van you need to be very gentle with the acceleration to use the battery properly. You have cups, pans, and all kitchen stuff which is nice to have. Thanks Estive the EV and Olivia. Att Nerea&Fernando

Great van, great features, great owners! We particularly enjoyed all the cute features including the projector for movie night. I was quite nervous about driving a large vehicle but Pumbaa was actually so easy to drive, especially with the rear view camera. Would highly recommend for anyone's first van trip. The owners were so welcoming and helpful if we had any questions throughout the trip.

We booked Floyd last minute due to a breakdown of our campervan, and he did not disappoint! From the service received with Quirky Campers to Floyds Owners, everything was done so smoothly and efficiently.
Floyd has all you need for an off-grid adventure, the battery system, heating and hot water made for a luxury we don't normally have, the bed was super comfy and spacious, and the van equipped with all the essentials for a great trip!

Perfect from start to finish! Thank you so much Lucan, Donna and Quirky Campers, for making the hire of Maureen (Doncaster) so simple and affordable. Lucan picked me up at the train station, gave me a simple run through everything and I was on my way. Not only was the layout perfect, Maureen was so easy to drive. I’ve been toying with the idea of a camper, but wasn’t sure about a longer wheel base (although I wanted the space) as I thought it would make it difficult to reverse and park etc, but the experience has shown me how easy a longer vehicle can be and definitely worth it for those extra feet.
I’ve hired a motorhome before and didn’t really enjoy the experience as the excess was crazy and the owners put the fear of god in me, making me feel like I was hiring their pride and joy. Although Maureen is obviously much loved, Lucan was so relaxed about people hiring her and Quirky make the insurance process so easy and with option to reduce the excess to zero for a small charge. This was invaluable for me, meaning I could just relax and enjoy the experience. If I don’t find my ideal camper soon, I’ll be sure to call on Maureen again. Thank you!!

Unfortunately we didn’t get the off-grid experience we paid for in Quincy — a fully working van with gas and electric operating correctly.

The owner tried his best to help us from afar but that meant a lot of our time was spent trying to troubleshoot.

If Quirky or the owner had been more accommodating than to offer us £25 compensation I’d be leaving a much better review as these things can’t be helped. We paid three nights for an off-grid experience and essentially had no gas or electric for the majority of our trip. £25 doesn’t even come close in comparison to the stress, time and £££ spent on extra food and hot drinks due to not being able to cook in the van.

Quirky customer support had no empathy for our situation, they re sent us their booking terms -essentially where you have no rights and the terms are there to protect the camper owners not customers - and immediately closed the case. They made out as if we should be grateful for the £25 and a late drop off. They also claimed that no fault could be found with the camper van. I have photos of the faulty gas light proving otherwise.

We will not be using Quirky campers again due to their poor customer service.

Had everything we needed and it was so comfortable to sleep in. Would highly recommend.

We received loads of enquiries from just posting in Caravan groups on Facebook. I'd advise that over using Quirky Campers.

Absolutely loved our time in Reggie! He was well equipped, cozy and clean!! We loved our adventure around the NC500. Thank you for allowing us to hire him, we took good care of him!! X

We had a wonderful adventure in Auri & travelled to the Outer Hebrides, stopping off at Troon, Loch Lomond, the Isle of Skye & Isle of Harris & Lewis. Auri had everything we needed and the bed is so comfortable we slept really well every night. We only stayed on one camp site and the rest was wild camping - the Isle of Harris & Lewis was particularly great for wild camping. The scenery, beaches and wild life en route were amazing, with many rainbows on the Isle of Skye. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend Auri to anyone looking for comfort and a bit of luxury on their travels. Kelvin and Wee were really helpful - they responded to our questions really quickly and were a pleasure to deal with.

Using Quirky Campers was like having a Fairy Godmother to get you to the ball and sort out any issues.

I purchased a camper which through my own inexperience of campers I paid a fortune for and it is a total white elephant; leaking roof, windows, mould, diesel heater was disconnected, leisure batteries needing replaced etc. The worst part is that QC's really promoted it and clearly the sellers were lying through their teeth knowing full well it was essentially a ripping out job and starting from scratch but pretended nothing was wrong with it and it was in perfect condition. I totally get checking it out was my responsibility and what I got was down to my inexperience and naivety but I still feel like I was kicked in the teeth. I hope karma comes around to both the sellers and QC's at some point for delivering fraudulent ads and vans. So disappointed- and also in myself.

We had an amazing long weekend in Hepzibah (Sandwich, Kent(. It was our first ever campervan experience and it couldn't have gone better. Jackie and Jonathan were very helpful and the van was everything we needed, well equipped, cosy, and with plenty of character, as well as smooth and straightforward to drive. Thanks for everything and we look forward to our next Hepzibah tour.

Dobby proved the ideal companion on our tour of Cornwall and opened the door to completely off grid experiences in the great outdoors.

Angel has everything you could need. Compact yet just right for the narrow roads. We enjoyed our adventure in Angel and would recommend highly. There was everything you could need carefully located but within easy reach. Thank you for allowing us to experience this great camper!

We absolutely loved hiring Wilson for our recent trip to End of the Road festival in Dorset.
Teighan and Jordan were excellent at explaining everything we needed to know. They took the time to go through all the information thoroughly and were also really lovely.
Wilson is a beautiful van. He's been so well designed and has everything you need. It was so convenient to use a camper van and a joy to stay in. He's also super cozy and comfortable. I
have never slept so well at a festival! In
fact, I slept better than I do at home!

I had a great few days in Heather. The van is really comfortable and very well equipped. Everything worked really well and I loved the freedom to travel and stop when we felt like it. Will definitely be booking again. the owners were really responsive and helpful - we changed our dates and they were really flexible.

Wow what an experience! Camper van life is amazing. Especially in Miro. The van had everything we needed including the thoughtful finishing touches - thank you Rachel. The van offered a real off grid experience. We didn’t need electrical hook ups which allowed the optionality of simply turning up to camp sites, getting the best spots with sea views. The instructions given by Rachel and Dan were easy to follow and the manual had everything we needed. Perfect holiday, the best experience, in the best van with lots of room and storage, loved by me, my partner, our 4 year old and dog. Thank you for a wonderful experience Dan and Rachel! Xx

REVIEW BLUBELLE

Second time in hiring Blubelle. Just as much of a pleasure this time around as much as the first. A truly delightful home from home and a joy to drive as well. Blubelle gets lots of admiration from many people and there are always plenty of waves out there on the open highway. The best for me is sitting or lying near that wood burner for when it gets a bit chilly outside. You just cannot beat that cosy feeling! Very good indeed off grid for power and just sheer bliss all around! Looking forward to that next adventure already!!
