120 EUR per month for a simple CMS functionality. And they know you're locked and squeeze the maximum. Ridiculous.

Great platform and wonderful features. Sadly terrible pricing and unethical price changes!

They onboard you for competitive pricing but have now slowly pull out support for features on already existing plans with no clarity. They simply want you to pay 3x or 5x just to use the same features now-

You have no option to buy their premium plans simply becuase they leave you no option!

We’ve been using Storyblok for client projects and have generally appreciated the editor experience and flexibility. However, the recent pricing changes introduced in April 2025 have been deeply disappointing.

The new Growth plan now includes fewer assets (2,500) than the old Entry plan (4,000), which means customers who previously fit comfortably within their plan are suddenly forced to upgrade to a much more expensive tier (Growth Plus, +$250/month) just to keep working as before.

In our case, we even had a prior agreement with Storyblok to pay on a Pay-as-You-Go basis for assets, which would have been a fair and flexible solution. With the new pricing, this option has been removed entirely, leaving us with no reasonable alternative.

From our perspective, this isn’t “aligning with market needs” — it’s reducing value and putting customers in a corner where they must pay significantly more for no meaningful gain. For agencies like ours, this creates unnecessary friction and makes it difficult to recommend Storyblok for current and future clients.

The platform itself is good, but the direction of the pricing model is a dealbreaker. Unless there’s a change, we will be moving our projects elsewhere.

Extremely Disappointing Changes and Unprofessional Behavior

Storyblok has made drastic changes to their subscription plans that severely impact existing customers. Where plans previously included unlimited languages, they now only offer two – and the number of assets (e.g. uploaded images) has been slashed to less than half.

We’ve spent the past six months building our websites based on the original offering, and we’re now facing an absurd price increase with no regard for existing users. Price adjustments over time are understandable, but these aren’t adjustments – they’re major changes to the core value of the product.

On top of this is the lack of support or communication. Unless you’re on an Enterprise plan, it’s impossible to get in touch with anyone at Storyblok over phone.

Simply just bad practise and arrogant behavior.

Storyblok changed pricing, which affected existing customers in an extreme way. Previously there were unlimited languages on all plans, now only 2 are free, and every additional language costs 20€ / month. They also considerably lowered various limits (traffic, max assets,etc.).

This all lead to customers suddenly being confronted with a price hike of up to 800% and possibly even more. And all this within a 2 months notice. it's quite the horror-scenario - not only for customers, who suddenly simply can't afford their CMS anymore - possibly only a few months after their site launched, but also for agencies, that recommend Storyblok.

Many companies adapt their prices from time to time, but affecting existing customers in such an extreme way is simply greedy and unpleasent. They also lock many basic features behind the higher plans.

It's really a shame, since the tech and dev/support people really seem great. But this stunt has completely alienated me (and many more) from this company.

I love the tool itself. I think the visual editor is amazing. It's great that for 1 developer there is a nice free tier.
Their support is alright. You get more out of it if you're a developer.

When it comes to their pricing, I think it makes no sense. They charge per user per seat, instead of charging for amount of content on the site. So my client pays $120/year just for having an account? $240/year if they add another person? WTF! That makes no sense.

Why not keep it free tier until they actually use a certain amount of content? That'd make way more sense and make the product much more viable in my opinion.

Love the product but with this pricing model it's a bit f*cked. I don't care if other companies do the same with their pricing models. It's a bad practice.

The tool is good, but the company is not reliable. I used to recommend Storyblok, but now they are raising pricing 2,2x without a justified reason. Result: we have to migrate all the content and integration work to another tool.

This is a greedy company that will do whatever they can to get more money from you. They dont offer a sensible price plan and are making egregious changes to their current tiers with expensive plans plus metering. Absolutely ridiculous, will be moving all projects away and no longer recommending

We are very dissatisfied with Storyblok's approach to problem solving. We have been having problems with the display of our pages for some time. Apparently, our 404 page appears randomly where content pages should actually appear. Contacting support has not been satisfactory so far and the problem costs us a lot of money every time. Our developer (agency) has been trying to solve the problem for several weeks, now we have tried to contact the support via several people. Then we received an answer, but there is still no solution to the problem. A response from our developer to the request was again not answered.

Beware of Storyblok's Unprofessional Behavior and Outdated CMS

I am writing this public review for Storyblok to express my deep disappointment and frustration with their appalling handling of private feedback and their outdated CMS. I had initially provided Storyblok with constructive feedback privately, in good faith, intending to help them improve their app. Shockingly, they chose to use this feedback against me by sharing it with my employer, misrepresenting the context and making it appear as though I had shared this negative information through a support ticket.

This action has negatively impacted my relationship with my employer, and I have never experienced such behavior from any company before. It is as if Storyblok is unable to handle negative feedback and decided to punish me. Thankfully, as a contractor, their attempt backfired. Therefore, I am now publicly sharing the same feedback to further expose their terrible response.

While Storyblok may be a suitable CMS for non-developers, those who are responsible for building apps with this CMS as their backend will undoubtedly encounter numerous issues. The documentation is outdated, and the plugin ecosystem is poorly managed, as evidenced by countless threads on their Discord channel.

Developers familiar only with React should be prepared for the painful experience of learning an older version of Vue just to create a plugin, as the plugin system forces the use of Vue and Vue2. Additionally, attempting to create a complex plugin that uses the asset selector is an exercise in frustration, as the local development mode for plugins is fundamentally broken for this workflow. Developers must build their plugin locally and manually copy and paste it into the web UI to test changes.

Moreover, in 2023, Storyblok still lacks an Infrastructure as Code solution, forcing developers to constantly switch between their editor and the CMS UI to click buttons. This inefficient process further adds to the frustration of working with their platform.

In conclusion, I strongly caution others against using Storyblok. Their unprofessional handling of private feedback is unacceptable, and their CMS is outdated and difficult for developers. There are better alternatives available that prioritize both customer experience and a robust developer platform.

Storyblok is a headless CMS that has been a nightmare for our business. They have a V1 and a V2, yet both don't seem to work. Our team of developers are constantly rage clicking their website in frustration and the whole system has slowed our development down exponentially. This is expensive software and the incompetence is the worst we've had to deal with. Stay away from this software. Don't waste your money like we have.
