About Vets Now
Pet emergencies can happen at any time – including when your regular vet is closed.
That’s why our nationwide network of out-of-hours pet emergency clinics are open through the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, so we’re ready and waiting to provide expert pet emergency care when your regular vet is having some time off.
Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.
Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.
We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our two hospitals — in Glasgow and Manchester — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

I am extremely disappointed and…
I am extremely disappointed and heartbroken by my experience at this veterinary practice at longsight road, clayton le dale blackburn following Bailey’s visit.
When I took Bailey to the practice, she was clearly very unwell. She was panting, shaking and struggling to walk, breathing heavily ( more than 50 breaths per minute) Despite how poorly she was, I was told that she had a tummy bug and was given medication for this. Her symptoms did not look like a simple stomach problem to me, and sadly, it turned out that there was something much more serious going on.
Bailey was later found to have heart problems or a mass and, just 24 hours after I first took her to this practice, I had to make the heartbreaking decision to have her put to sleep.
What I find hardest to accept is that Bailey had to suffer through another night when, in my opinion, further tests should have been carried out much sooner. Given how unwell she was, I feel that a second opinion should also have been considered. Another vet may have recognised the seriousness of her condition and advised us that the kindest option was to put her to sleep and prevent further suffering.
I was charged over £400 for the consultation and medication, which ultimately felt like a waste of time and money because the diagnosis was incorrect. However, the money is not what matters most to me — it is knowing that Bailey was suffering and that I feel more could have been done to find out what was really wrong with her.
Bailey was panting, shaking and could hardly walk. These were very worrying symptoms, and I am deeply upset that her condition was treated as a tummy bug rather than being investigated more thoroughly.
Losing Bailey has been devastating. I will always be left wondering whether her suffering could have been reduced if further tests or a second opinion had been sought sooner. I sincerely hope the practice reflects on what happened so that another pet and their family do not have to go through the same experience.
Why do we pay 3 times more for medication when its out of hours?
Why does it cost more to run a practice through the night? I get cheaper electricity after 12am so I thought it should be cheaper to run.
Always kept informed of plans by vet
Everyone was friendly. Kept informed of plans for investigations. Felt my cat was looked after well. My only negative is the handover to my own vet. Although a report was sent to him, it only listed investigations and not results which wasn't enough. If it isn't possible to do a computer transfer then maybe a phone conversation would be useful.

I had brought my guinea pig into the vets as he was extremely lethargic and wouldn’t walk, he wasn’t eating and was pooing either. After 6hrs we were given medication and critical care liquid food for him. We have him his first dosage and was using a syringe to feed him and give him water. Not even 24 hours after that vet visit he passed away. At the vets I had expressed my concerns about how he was acting strange and I thought he was dying but I was brushed off and said it was normal for a guinea pig to act like it.
Amazing emergency team

Kind, thorough and reassuring emergency care
I called the out-of-hours helpline after our dog, experienced a sudden and unexplained episode of severe pain. Although he seemed fine afterwards, we were understandably very worried and decided to have him checked.
When we arrived, the receptionist was lovely — friendly, kind and helpful, which immediately helped to put us at ease. The vet was calm and thorough, carefully examining our dog's temperature, stomach, spine, muscles and legs. Thankfully, she couldn’t find anything concerning, but she took our worries seriously and gave us the reassurance we needed. The clinic was clean and all the staff were lovely.
We felt very well looked after throughout and were so grateful for the kindness shown to our fur baby and his worried humans. Thank you!

Brought my old dog in for an emergency appointment fearing the worst. The vet was very understanding, she explained everything she was doing very clearly. I felt listened to. I really valued how empathetic the vet was. I doubted bringing my much loved dog to a strange vet in her hour of need but the experience was very positive.

Most helpful on the phone seen straight away on arrival by the nurse taking information this was passed to the vet.
The treatment was dealt with in a professional way
and soon on are way.
Unless your dog is on deaths door, travel a little further and go to Woods Vets in Quedgeley in Gloucester
a filthy expereince from start to finish, was in for less that 10 minues of which only 4 minutes with a vet, still non the wiser as to what is wrong with my dog, an anti sickness jab and a visit to my own vet on Monday morning to get to the bottom of it. The reception area was absolutely filthy and the staff less than helpful. Paid my bill in full and was then charged a £35 insurance admin fee which I am now trying to get a refund on so £422 for less than 10 minutes WOW such value for money at £105 per minute with the vet!! and £42 per minute for the full joyful experience, this cannot ever be justified with wages and equipment in my book
A great sevice
From the receptionist to the treatment from the vet….excellent. It’s such a worrying time when your pet is sick and they alleviated all the worry & treated our pet kindly & professionally .

Having to wait hours to be seen is a pain, especially when you have to rely on friends for lifts, but no complaints. Kept informed about my dog and told upfront about costs.

Told to pay £600 just for consultation fees in less than 12hours
I contacted this practice late Saturday afternoon due to concerns about my rabbit and brought her in. The receptionist and vet were absolutely lovely and very helpful, but the prices are absolutely extortionate.
I can see in the comments that the practice has tagged the URL to “where the fees go”, but realistically, these companies charge as much as they do because they know people will pay when it comes to making sure their animals are well.
11 hours later, I was making another phone call to the vets because I had one simple question. I asked if the lady on the phone could speak to the vet or arrange a call back to ask when I could expect my rabbit’s stools to return to normal, and at what point I should consider bringing her back to the emergency vets if they continued to be loose.
The lady on the triage call was doing her best to support me and was unfortunately stuck in the middle. I was told that I would have to bring my rabbit back in because the vet wanted to see her. Even this I was bit confused about as I could not fully understand why the vet wanted to see my rabbit. The vet the previous night had said loose stools can be expected after what she has been through but now I’m being told to bring her to see the vet again?
I asked whether I would have to pay another consultation fee and was told yes, as it had been more than 24 hours. I explained that it hadn’t been 24 hours — it had only been 11 hours. The lady came back and said that, after speaking with the practice, I would still have to pay the consultation fee again.
I was honestly shocked and extremely disappointed.
Anyway, I brought my rabbit back to the vets and saw a veterinary nurse, who reiterated that if I wanted to see a vet, I would have to pay. I explained again that all I wanted was for the vet to answer one simple question. The vet didn’t come out to speak to me, and instead the veterinary nurse had to keep going back and forth between us.
Later I also found out I could have used Telford’s practice but instead was sent to Stoke which is further away - not good when you have a rabbit who is poorly due to stress and all of this was going to add to her stress!
Long story short, I’ve since been told about a different emergency vets called Bramble & Bear, whose pricing is not extortionate and which my usual vet practice spoke highly of. When people in my usual vets are saying ‘I will never use Vets Now’ it makes you think… I will never use this company again.
Although the staff were lovely and, thankfully, my rabbit is better now, I cannot justify being charged £600 for two consultations in less than 12 hours. It is absolutely laughable.
I dread to think about the number of animals and owners who are put in the position of wanting to help their pet but also thinking of the financial impact of this during out-of-hours care simply because these prices are unaffordable for normal, everyday people.

Very disappointed with how my claim has been handled.
My cat Leo was treated by Vets Now on 7 August 2026. I have contacted Vets Now twice to chase the information required for my Tesco Insurance claim, but Vets Now apparently failed to respond to Tesco Insurance.
As a result, Tesco Insurance has now closed my claim, leaving me out of pocket.
I have had to pay £500 to Vets Now on my credit card to prevent further credit charges from building up while this matter remains unresolved. I am now seeking to recover this £500 and any associated interest or other reasonable costs caused by the delay.
I have asked for details of the appropriate regulatory and complaints escalation process. If this is not resolved, I will escalate the matter through the appropriate financial complaints process, including the Financial Ombudsman Service where applicable.
I should not be left financially disadvantaged because the veterinary practice failed to provide information required by my insurer. I expect both parties to properly investigate this and resolve the matter rather than passing the responsibility between each other.
