Always been a decent bank until today. Went to the Walsall branch, waiting 20 mins in a queue to get told I had to make an appointment for a name change as recently got married. I had all documents with me but there was too big of a queue to do admin. So happy to take money off you but when you need admin, they don't want anything to do with you. Even after waiting in a queue for so long.

Absolutely appalling and disgusted by the lack of negligence this bank has shown. I go to a branch to open an account on the 13th July 2023 the lady specifically said no credit checks are done I opened not one but two accounts with them. I deposited cash on the day of opening. Gave all my documentation. Next day I transferred money from my other account. After trying to check my balance online and over the phone I couldn’t log in. I phoned the bank today only to find out my account has been closed by the bank without any explanation to me and I’m putting money in the account thinking it’s open as it didn’t bounce back. The lady on the phone was rude not cooperative and after asking why wasn’t I emailed which would be faster than you sending a letter in the post. She said we don’t do emails! They also don’t take any complains either. So in short ridiculous not trustworthy. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. Please don’t waste your time and money with this bank! It’s not a safe bank to trust your money with.

Absolutely horrendous experience. Never had the sort of issues we had with them with any other mortgage provider.
We secured a deal with them weeks before interest rates increased and when it came to application they started picking up on all sorts of random issues including my husband’s name, permanent residence card; we rang Home Office, did what they suggested and West Brom still refused. They have wasted so much of our time and we have ran out of time so have to go on a standard variable rate (which we can barely afford) while trying to find a new deal.
Do not recommend them. We never had such an awful experience with any other lender

Great service once again from the west brom! Slightly complicated case got offered in record time, app submitted on the 14th of June and offered today so very happy client and myself! Thanks again team and will be back.

Their level of incompetence knows no bounds. Treat customers with utter Contempt with repeated lies. Do not take responsibility for silly mistakes or listen to their customers. Do not entrust your hard earned money to these amatuers

Just insanity trying to provide proof of ID and funding for a mortgage, sending the same documents over and over, they don't accept electronic signs, in 2023, really. Just archaic, slow and wish i had never started

Visited the Shrewsbury office to close a savings account and despite technical difficulties, Sarah persevered, maintained a very pleasant demeanour and managed to complete the action to my complete satisfaction. Other financial institutions and retail outlets would do well to use the high level of customer service I received as a benchmark.

Lead you up the garden path with mortgage offers. Encouraged to apply by senior underwriting, given a DIP only for them to then not offer anyway. Even though they knew all the details and situation during discussion with senior members of the underwriting team.

Waste of time, stress

I was surprised to see the reviews as I cannot speak more highly of the team at West Brom. We had a slight issue making an ISA deadline which they Kindly helped us with and other issues with transfers in from other providers. The level of empathy and proactivity from their team was exceptional. Real people with a flexible and positive approach all to absent in the sector.

My mother had attended the BEARWOOD WEST BROM branch a week prior to advise she needed to order £3,000 and was told it will be ready next week Tuesday (Today). She entered the branch to be told by the very same people Emily, Kimberly (A manager) no order was made however can make a transfer to an account bearing in mind my mother is not fluent in English so was hoping the staff could help with filling a form out however that was proving to be a very difficult task and then when my mother wanted to put in a complaint was advised she was being rude and had left the branch as she didn't want any commotion as the staff including the manager KIMBERLY was very unhelpful and rude. I have then contacted the branch and spoken to Kully who refused to provide details of a regional branch manager as the manager Kimberly was extremely busy and wasn't able to speak again not very helpful. I wanted to make a formal complaint due to the behaviour not only my mother experienced in the branch, I experienced over the phone. The staff are very rude and unhelpful including the manager KIMBERLY. Kully is very confrontational. PLEASE CAN SOMEONE MESSAGE ME WITH DETAILS TO DIRECT MY COMPLAINT TO. As I will like to make a formal complaint.

Although there are a number of negative reviews here I can only speak from experience.
Phoned to swap a savings account and got through in 2 minutes, which is a change when most companies have you hanging on for ages with Covid etc. as an excuse for having no staff.
Although what was required was simple they nevertheless did everything I asked without any problem.
Savings rates are not the best though.

They sold my parents a reverse mortgage. They totally conned them into this procedure. Forced them to use a solicitor in Birmingham when their own solicitor wasn’t allowed to be involved. They were tricked into signing these papers. The so called company they used no longer exists so there are no copies of the paperwork. Absolute scam artists.

The branch in Fox And Goose probably the worst. Always desk free yet customers have to queue.

Amateurish. Opened a WebSave fixed rate bond on 30th Nov and transferred some money in. Waited til 9th Dec for a userid to be able to logon and check safe arrival. This arrived by insecure email. Tried to transfer money from a different bank account but this was rejected as not being from my 'nominated account ' . why for heavens sake? its a fixed bond -no other transactions allowed -what is the point of 'linked account'. Still have not received the code to 'authenticate' this nominated account. Go to a grown-up building society like YBS

My husband and I went into Shrewsbury branch today to open a new savings account. We were met by Charlotte Hannan who greeted us with a smile and told us she was very happy to open us a new account. She proceeded to complete the forms and check our id. At all times she was friendly and very courteous, we are very happy with the decision to open our account with West Brom and Charlotte.
More banks/building societies should employ people like Charlotte to keep the customers happy.

Went to Welshpool branch and wanted £ 300 to pay someone for work done only to be told I can only have £200 so now I have got to make another journey to a cash machine.not happy . I will be closing it shortly. Is

Ive recently transferred a large number of ISA's to WB from Nationwide ....... Im getting an increasing feeling of unease about WB, they have no current accounts and no internet banking ( which ive been doing with other building societies and banks for 20 years now ) but more worrying when i recently went in to their Oswestry branch to query why the first and largest ISA had no interest statement posted to me like the most recent ones they seemed completely confused and after 3 of them including the manager had been on the computer for 15 minutes they said that their system was different to the head office and that i should come back another time ........ how weird ...... it all seems a bit Noah's Ark like compared to other banking systems ive experienced and im now very wary about future investments with them ........ However the people are quite nice so ill roll with them a little longer ....... The latest 2/8/2022 well more visits to my local branch but still no conclusion despite their promise to call me in a couple of hours Now i really am starting to get twitchy about my investments with them and will have to amend my star rating down !!

Don't get your mortgage with west brom. If your broker suggests them, avoid at all cost. They will stall your mortgage over the paperwork, even after you have your agreement in principle. They will still stall it and you will risk missing your deadlines. I had a very bad experience with them.

you can't back out of it when you realise how rubbish they are, as there is then a heard search on your credit file, and you will have waste months on sorting everything out that it won't be feasible to switch to a competent lender.
