Explanations are short and confusing and often doesn't have alternative explanations. This program only checks to see if you know the answer, it does nothing for practicing the actual process. Therefore, if you get something wrong, it can't tell you which step you got wrong. This program is incredibly frustrating and does nothing for advancing understanding without outside help.

Absolute god awful UI, worst learning experience ever. Just another way for professors to be lazy.

Its not fair we have to do 10 math questions every week

Worst website ever first of all they can log you out if your inactive even if your in a middle of a topic and the lack of videos makes learning a horrible experience whithout talking about half of these horrible features also for some reason when you get a question wrong you have to go back and do it again on a entirely new question well this might not sound bad but it actually just gives you more questions to do making a topic looking like it will takes seconds turns into hours i’m in school and i’m just saying something for the teachers to hear if you hate mcgraw hill aleks you dont hate math geometry and every subject mcgraw hill aleks you just hate the features

It sends you back so much time. And the explanations don't help. I've wasted summers with this bullshit

I'm going to try to give an actual review rather than just blatantly bashing it.

The good: Aleks pushes you to actually master topics, you can't guess, it's satisfying to get topics correct, you do actually learn some of the topics. the INITIAL knowledge check is pretty useful and a good benchmark most of the time (note i said initial)

the bad: constant knowledge checks force me to spend hours on my computer trying to get aleks topics done. at first the topics are easy, but by the end of the semester, i'm spending sometimes half-hours on topics, and if i get a question wrong, a good 15 minutes progress is reverted because you have to get them correct with no mistakes inbetween. at a glance this might seem good to help students master the topics but it really adds a sense of anxiety and stress that you're never going to get the work done.
the topics have multiple question types for each topic. ( for example one topic is "how to add" and you get the problem: 1+2= x, then you get x = 1+2 obviously this was a simple example) and it really throws you off, sometimes causing you to lose a ton of time spent working on the topics.
the worst part about this program is the explanations, they are super wordy and laid out terribly to make it extremely hard to understand what happens in between steps. and like I mentioned before, it only shows the explanation for one question, it doesn't elaborate further on that whole topic. so you'll submit a problem and get it right, then the next topic is a different type of problem, so you either have to guess or already know, or read the explanation further losing progress. Youtube videos explain the topics SO MUCH better, and yes it's half because they record and you can hear and see the steps, but they also just know how to explain and teach student rather than throwing a bunch of instructions on a white background that makes it hard to read.

This is coming from someone who's been using ALEKS for 5 years and coming up on my his sixth year. the amount of stress and despair from this program is unbelievable. math used to be my favorite subject, aleks actually took the fun out of learning. I actually hope super intendants read this and stop using this program, or the developers read these genuine problems, and fix it.

I feel Incredibly gross about being forced to feed my poor math skills to some AI, over all the user experience is...lacking, the graphing is a mess, and I can't stand having to go an read through wherever the manual for a graphing system is. The topic system completely fails, it progresses you through certain things way to quick and makes you sit there forever on others, the Ai "learning" system doesn't seem to even work, as it has given me all the wrong lessons

This is the worst thing ever it has put me through torture. I cannot do 416 lessons i get in trouble everyday for this. Pls stop this program.

THIS SITE INFURIATES ME. IT IS GENUINELY A PIECE OF DIGITAL GARBAGE. I WOULD RATE IT NEGATIVE 15 GOOGLEPLEX STARS IF I COULD. THE FACT THAT IT USES AI MAKES IT MUCH WORSE. IF I COULD ERASE A WEBSITE FROM THE INTERNET, IT WOULD BE THIS ONE.

Doing ALEKS math is just so annoyingly ridiculous and I'm glad I don't have to do it next school year. I am in 2 math classes this year so in total I have to complete at the minimum 10 lessons per week. And every time I get myself to work on this mind numbing website, I at least spend more than half an hour just trying to get one section done because no matter how many times I'd look at the provided notes, write them down in my notebook, use what's in the notes that they provided- and I somehow still get it wrong. And the worst part about it is that you only get 2 tries before you automatically fail the question and each time you get the answer wrong, it wouldn't tell you what you got wrong or at the bare minimum guide you towards the right path. And every time you get a question wrong, instead of having to do only 3 problems in a 5 problem section, it makes you do all 5 problems which is so annoying a lot of the time because that just means more time wasted on a math problem that at this point I feel like just using either ChatGPT or Gemini to either help me understand the problem better or just give me the answer. Everybody keeps talking about the Knowledge Checks which isn't so bad until you somehow have to do the same problems that you just mastered yet again. I just overall don't like having to do anything that requires a daily streak because I already have other things going on, I don't need more busy work gng. And trust me, I actually do the work and actively do everything to solve these problems, this website just genuinely sucks buns and if you have to eventually use ALEKS- good luck twin.

I absolutely detest ALEKS as it is nothing less than a torture-filled marathon which takes the fun out of learning and turns it into an endless punishment. The “Knowledge Checks” are an absolute form of psychological torture as I might spend a whole lot of time and effort in filling my “pie,” and suddenly, the software decides that I have forgotten something and takes away all of my hard work. It is an exhausting process of going round and round the same circle where the finish line keeps changing each and every time, and I end up feeling like a rat caught on a treadmill. It is impossible for any individual to ever have a bad day or make a mistake. In case one does, they find themselves falling into an endless cycle of re-learning, which increases their workload by several folds.

ALEKS is such a mindgame when you keep getting the answer incorrect and you feel like you've been doing the right thing so many times. They don't even explain the topic, they just show math and do not explain why they are doing that math. Overall design isn't too bad though, but do not use

I took College Algebra on ALEKS independently- DO NOT DO IT!!! Not only was it incredibly difficult content that I essentially had to teach myself through the “Learn pages,” but for the Knowledge Checks, if you get an answer wrong it makes you re-do the topic, pushing you back in progress. Then for the ACE Knowledge Checks, in order to get my transcripts sent to my University, there was no way to pass it but by using notes && online help! It gives you problems that involve concepts you have learned, but the entire problem itself is a whole new concept that you have not learned. I actually cried so many times doing this program. McGraw Hill needs to fix this program, because especially when used independently, it’s a program that cheats the student and sets you up for failure.

Tis the single worst math edication platform that i have used. ui looks like someone put 20 minutes into to it. only marks questions right if they are in the format that it wants. the all or nothing format makes it hard to move on form a topic that you are not the best at and it does not teach anything to you. it also causes stress. did i mention that you have to pay money for this. just aulful should be taken down and peoles money refunded

this is genuinely the worst learning platform i’ve ever used aleks combines not actually teaching concepts with overly specific answers teachers expect me to just know how to do a concept they haven’t reached while the thing im meant to get right isn’t taught to me on the platform while it takes away points from questions ive gotten right. we have to do 8 a week which has me up at 11:00 on a sunday certain weeks and more and more often as they get harder through the year the explanations when you get something wrong are a lie they simply show you random numbers and an answer regather than actually explaining how you were wrong the knowledge checks are overly long and weigh your knowledge of a concept on one question before making you do the entire lesson again over and over sometimes setting kids back 20 lessons while teachers dangle parties for people who get enough by the end of a quarter in front of our faces while the program actively holds us back with zero explanation on how to actually do what they test you on schools in my area use this for the reports but at the cost of student well fare and money they could be using more constructively (our county is BROKE) while programs like kahn academy are free and actually teach you rather than treating learning like it’s the test.
