We advise that kits should be marked as recieved within 20 business days, and then following on from this, the testing process usually doesn't take more than 8 weeks. I searched my great grandfather 3…

I searched my great grandfather 3 generations ago. Then I searched myself, not data. I put myself in as 1730 and nothing shows. Logged in again and it showed me as living in the 1700's. They don't know shit and charge you for it, so anyone that searches for the family name, lol there I will be and you paid for false information. Garbage

Hi there, Kevin. Thanks for your feedback. It sounds like there’s been a bit of a mix-up in how the family tree software interprets dates.

When you enter yourself with a birth year of 1730, the system treats that as a factual historical record for your tree. Because our search engine is designed to find records that match the data you provide, it is now reflecting that "fact" back to you and other researchers.

The information on your tree is controlled by you; the system doesn't "know" your birth date is incorrect until you edit it. To fix this so you don't appear as a 300-year-old ancestor to others, you can simply go to your Tree, click on your Profile, and edit the Birth Date to your actual year. Once that is corrected, the "false information" will disappear, and the system will begin looking for records that actually match your generation.

We understand that navigating the tree builder can be a bit confusing at first, but once those dates are accurate, the search tools will work much better for your research.

Automatic renewal for a full year was…

Automatic renewal for a full year was processed and I don;t use this service. So I immediately stopped the auto renewal and cancelled my subscription within an hour of the renewal notification. I called and they said no refund will be issued. What a cash grab this company is. NEVER AGAIN!!!!! BEWARE TO ALL !!!!!! $400 gone, into the pockets of ancestory.ca

C’est un arnaque totalement!
Pour voir des indices ou renseignements pertinent, il faut prendre un ou des abonnement qui coutent extrêmement cher.
De plus, le résultat d’ADN ne sert à rien, je ne veux pas savoir que j’ai peut être 3% de chance d’être parent avec quelqu’un.
Ce qui serait important c’est d’avoir une correspondance précise, mais j’imagine qu’il faut débourser encore plus.
Bref, si c’était à refaire, je ne paierais pas 100$ pour ça!

I thought I was Scottish!

I grew up thinking I was a stout and stubborn Scotsman! I was even told that our grand family came from Inverness, and fought with Bonnie Prince Charlie. Then I find out sadly, but interestingly enough that I am more Irish and English with a touch of Scottish thrown in to make the stew taste better. So be it. Still amazing. The traits were interesting. A lot of it was bang on with me personally. Can't wait to see my wife's results. Should be fascinating to see if all their bragging about being Vikings is founded in truth or not.

Results can change

The reason I don’t recommend testing your DNA with ancestry is not for the reasons commonly pointed out by others such as the cost of membership which can be $300+ per year forever, it’s because I have no trust in the results. I submitted saliva samples for my parents (both 82), and when we got the results our family was stunned as this was contradictory to the extensive genealogy reports we have done in years past, using historical records as far back as they were kept. The results showed my dad is 26% Germanic, which was 2nd to 33% Central Scotland and Northern Ireland, with other regions combining for the balance. We dug through our extensive old records and could only make assumptions, but my dad accepted this and embraced his new found heritage, having previously believed all his life he was 100% Scottish. Then, 1 year after we got these results, we got an “updated” result from the same sample, with very different heritage. This time no Germanic, virtually all British, confirmed by their maps. The explanation given is they have further defined regions, but bottom line is this was a roller coaster I’d rather not been on. I’m a firm believer in science, but am confused how results can change based on “updated information” gathered by Ancestry. How can I be certain these new results won’t change again after another Ancestry update? If you’re looking for a fun little exercise and understand that the results may change, then go ahead, but if changing results may be confusing or emotional, maybe stick with old school research and pass on Ancestry DNA.

It’s completely understandable why seeing your father's results shift from Germanic to British would feel like a rollercoaster, especially when it seems to contradict years of your own careful research. We know how much heart and history go into these discoveries, and we're truly sorry for the confusion this update caused your family.

The reason for these changes is that, while your father's DNA remains constant, our scientific understanding of it continues to grow. As we add more people to our reference panel, we can more clearly distinguish between regions with overlapping histories—such as Northwest Europe and the British Isles. These updates are intended to provide the most refined "snapshot" possible as the technology improves.

Could not get any relevant information re family members already tested by you. Got a verification code at one point but could not get back to enter it where originally requested.
Hardly user friendly and unable to get what I paid for.

untrustworthy, unreachable and complete waste of time

Decided to cancel as never received results from the DNA profile kit I sent back to them last August.
Tried to cancel but denied access due to some "technical error" - on multiple occasions. No response from telephone line or emails.
Had to resort to my bank who will raise my concerns as a dispute, but it is an unwelcome faff.
They seem to be purely online and if anything goes wrong they are unreachable. USELESS. AVOID!!

Hi Jean-guy and thank you for reaching out to us with this review. We are sorry for any frustration caused by the amount of time your results are taking. It's worth bearing in mind that we generally allow up to 30 business days for a sample to be marked as 'received' and then another 6-8 weeks for testing, though it's usually much quicker than this. Our lab is currently experiencing a higher-than-usual volume of kits following the Holiday period, alongside some unexpected weather-related disruptions. This has unfortunately led to delays for some samples at this stage but we'd still expect your results to be ready within our 8 week timeframe.

We want to offer some insight into why testing can take this long. Our testing process involves selecting and analyzing over 700,000 markers in your DNA. We analyze these markers 40 different times in order to make sure we are getting a complete and accurate view. We then compare this information to our DNA reference panel which is made up of more than 185,000 samples representing 146 different global regions.
